Juvenile arrested after alleged Attempted Burglary in Council Bluffs this morning

Police in Council Bluffs arrested a juvenile male this (Tuesday) morning, following an alleged burglary attempt. Officers were called to the 4500 block of Northshore Drive at around 5:40-a.m., with regard to a prowler looking in the windows of a residence. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male holding a window screen, from the residence, in the driveway.

The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Theft. The juvenile was placed in the Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.

IADA McKEE, 98, of Massena, died Monday, January 23rd, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.  Celebration of Life services for IADA McKEE will be held 10:30-a.m. Monday, Jan. 30th, at the Trinity Christian Church in Bridgewater. Steen Funeral Home in Massena has the arrangements.
A luncheon will be held at the Trinity Christian Church immediately following the services.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.
Burial will in the Victoria Township Cemetery, Rural Massena.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Christian Church or to the Massena Fire Department.
IADA McKEE is survived by:
Her children – Jack McKee and wife Mary, of Massena, Karen Bissell and husband Gary, of Atlantic, and Jean Ryan, of Atlantic.
13 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 36 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Atlantic boys swim team picks up win in Council Bluffs

The Atlantic boys swim team picked up another dual win on Monday night against the Council Bluffs combined program 94-72. Atlantic took wins in 8 of the 11 events. Damon Miller, Blake Ewoldt, and Jacob Redler all picked up two individual wins. Miller won the 50 and 100 meter freestyle. Redler took the 200 and 400 freestyle. Ewoldt won the 200 individual medley and 100 meter breaststroke. Damon Miller, Eric Weiser, Nik Landhuis, Jacob Redler, and Blake Ewoldt were involved in winning the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle relays for the Trojans.

Speedy Mini Meat Loaves (1-24-2017)

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon minced thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Lightly grease 12 cup muffin pan.

Combine beef, bread crumbs, eggs milk, onion, garlic, salt, thyme and black pepper in large bowl.  Divide mixture among muffin cups, pressing meat firmly into pan.

Place pan on baking sheet.  Bake until loaves are firm when pressed lightly in center but not set, 20 to 25 minutes.

Whisk together ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce in small bowl while loaves bake.  Remove pan from oven.  Brush tops of loaves with ketchup glaze and return pan to oven.

Bake loaves until glaze has thickened and meat is completely cooked through, 10 minutes longer.  Run spatula around edges of muffin cups and pop out meat loaves

Heavy snow, winds expected across northern Nebraska, Iowa

Meteorologists say a storm system carrying powerful winds and heavy snow will be moving across northern Nebraska and Iowa through Wednesday. The National Weather Service has posted winter storm warnings from the northern Nebraska Panhandle all the way to the northeastern corner of Iowa. Up to a dozen inches of snow is expected in some spots, with deep drifts born of winds gusting to 40 mph.

Authorities say slick roadways and blowing snow will make travel hazardous. Lighter snow or a wintry mix is expected along the southern edge of the system’s path.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9-a.m. Wednesday for Harrison and Shelby Counties. The Advisory goes into effect for Audubon-Guthrie-Carroll-Crawford and Greene Counties, from Noon today through 6-p.m. Wednesday. And, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Sac County, until 9-a.m., Wednesday.

Atlantic School Board to receive initial Collective Bargaining Unit proposals

The Atlantic School District’s Board of Education is set to receive proposals this week from the Collective Bargaining Units (CBU) representing the Certified and Non-Certified Staff, for the 2017-18 School Year The Certified Unit’s CBU will make its initial proposal to the District 3:30-p.m. today (Tuesday), in the Media Center at the Atlantic Middle School.

The Non-Certified CBU team will make its proposal to the Board Thursday afternoon at the same time and place. Both sessions are open to the public. No action will be taken during the initial bargaining sessions.
