Excessive speed & deer on the road responsible for Union County accident

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says excessive speed was partially to blame for a non-injury accident late Friday night. 18-year old Kolten Phelps, of Creston, was traveling west on Four Mile Creek Drive at around 11:10-p.m., and failed to slow down for the posted sharp curve ahead in the road. Phelps told authorities when he swerved to miss a deer on the road, the 2007 Ford pickup he was driving left the road and ended up in the west ditch before hitting a tree and a fence. Damage from accident amounted to $10,500.

Villisca man arrested Monday morning

A traffic stop for speeding this (Monday) morning in Adams County resulted in a man from Villisca being arrested. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year old Justin Donscheski was pulled over for speeding at around 6:20-a.m. He was found to have had a barred Iowa driver’s license, and was taken into custody for Driving While Barred. His bond was set at $2,000.

JAMES J. WOLF, 81, of Exira died Saturday, January 28th at his home.  Funeral services for JAMES J. WOLF will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:30 am in the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon.  Kessler Funeral Home in Exira has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Family visitation will be held Tuesday at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial in the Exira Cemetery.

Wife:  Dorothy of Exira.

Daughter:  Shanna Wolf of Minneapolis.

Sisters:  Betty Simonsen of Exira & Harriet Jayne of Exira.

Brother:  Phylip (Jane) Wolf of Mariuonville, MO.

Brothers-in-law:  Richard (Marilyn) Petersen of Audubon; Harold Rustvold of Audubon

Sisters-in-law:  Judy Wheeler of Exira; Wanda Wolf of Atlantic.

Several nieces, nephews and other relative and many friends.

Adair County man arrested on drug charge Sunday morning

Police in Creston say a man from Adair County was arrested at around 1:15-a.m. Sunday, for OWI/1st offense and Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense. 26-year old Dakota Gaulden, of Orient, was later released from the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Also arrested early Sunday morning, was 32-year old Paul Daniels, of Creston. Daniels was charged with Public Intoxication/2nd offense. He was later released on $1,000 bond, also.

One person was arrested in Creston last Friday. At around 11:30-p.m., 31-year old Tashina Martwick, of Creston, was arrested for Domestic Abuse/Simple Assault. She was later released on a Promise to Appear in court.

And, a Creston resident reported to Police early Friday morning, that sometime between midnight and 2:30-a.m., Friday, someone stole cash from a vehicle parked at her residence. The loss was estimated at $140.

Cass County Board of Supervisors to hold Public Hearing on Elite Octane Development Agreement

The Cass County Board of Supervisors will hold their regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, this week, instead of Wednesday, because it is the end of the month. During the meeting, a Public Hearing will be held beginning at 8:30-a.m., on a Development Agreement with Elite Octane, LLC, authorizing Tax Increment Payments, and Pledging Certain Tax Increment Revenues to the Payment of the Agreement. The hearing will be followed by action on a Resolution approving the Development Agreement.

Under the Development Agreement the County would provide financial incentives to the Company in the form of incremental property tax payments in an amount not to exceed $8.5-million. The Agreement to make incremental property tax payments will not be a general obligation of the County, but will be payable solely and only from incremental property tax revenues generated within the 2017 Cass County Agribusiness Urban Renewal Area.
