COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Small groups have turned out to protest outside Planned Parenthood clinics in Iowa and Nebraska as part of a nationwide effort to pressure lawmakers to defund the women’s health group. About two dozen protesters demonstrated Saturday outside of a clinic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Organizer Terri Naegele says passing motorists have overwhelmingly expressed their support, with the odd middle finger or curses coming from a few cars.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Edward Tipper, a World War II paratrooper who was portrayed in the HBO series “Band of Brothers,” has died. He was 95. EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Miles Bridges scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half and finished with 11 rebounds, leading Michigan State in a 77-66 win over Iowa on Saturday night.

The Spartans (15-10, 7-5 Big Ten) bounced back from a lopsided loss at Michigan with their third win in four games, improving their chances of playing in a 20th straight NCAA tournament.

Bridges was one of four Michigan State freshmen to score in double figures, and the only one who did much of his scoring in the first half. Nick Ward scored 12 of his 14 in the second half, Cassius Winston had all of his 12 points in the second half and Joshua Langford scored eight of his 11 points over the last 20 minutes of the game. It marked Michigan State’s first game this season in which four freshmen scored at least 10 points.

The Hawkeyes (14-12, 6-7) have dropped two straight games after winning three in a row. Iowa led 32-31 at halftime after 10 lead changes and five ties. Langford’s 3-pointer early in the second half started a 17-6 run that put Michigan State ahead 57-45 midway through the second half. The Spartans easily maintained a comfortable lead in part because of Langford for taking and making shots.

Tyler Cook and Peter Jok scored 13 points apiece for the Hawkeyes and reserve Cordell Pemsl added 10 points.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Naz Mitrou-Long scored 23 points and Iowa State cruised past Oklahoma 80-64 on Saturday, sending the Sooners to their seventh straight defeat. Mitrou-Long buried five 3s for the Cyclones (15-9, 7-5 Big 12), who blew the game open with a 21-4 run midway through the second half.

Iowa State blew a nine-point lead early just after halftime, allowing Oklahoma to tie it at 41-all. But the Cyclones tightened up their defense, letting up just four points during an eight-minute stretch that was among their best all season.

Back-to-back 3s from Donovan Jackson pushed Iowa State’s lead to 68-48 with just over six minutes to go. Matt Thomas scored 13 points and Monte Morris had 13 with nine assists and six rebounds for Iowa State, which went 12 of 26 from 3-point range.
