DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Karli Rucker scored 24 points and North Scott dominated the overtime period to win the Class 4A state championship with a 52-40 victory over Marion on Saturday night. North Scott (21-5) rallied from a six-point deficit early in the fourth quarter, then outscored Marion 13-1 in the extra four minutes to win going away. It was the first state championship for the Lancers after two runner-up finishes.

Rucker’s sister, Rylie, added nine points for North Scott, while two freshmen — Presley Case and Grace Boffeli — each scored seven. Boffeli also grabbed 10 rebounds, seven on the offensive end. Mia Laube led Marion (24-2) with 11 points, Chloe Rice scored nine and Randi Wright had six. The Indians started three juniors, a sophomore and a freshman, so they should contend again next season.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Zoe Young scored 21 points and West Des Moines Valley used a big second-quarter burst to beat Cedar Falls 71-59 Saturday night and win the Class 5A state championship. Hannah Fuller added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (24-2), who wiped out a seven-point deficit with an 18-2 run that left Cedar Falls scrambling to catch up.

Cedar Falls had upset Indianola in the semifinals but could not match Valley’s depth and balance. Freshman Alex Honold had 13 points and nine rebounds for Valley and Jamie Feldt scored 11. Feldt’s twin sister Jackie helped out with four points and six rebounds.

The title was the first for Valley and came in the school’s 12th trip to the state tournament and fourth appearance in the finals. Cynthia Wolf led Cedar Falls (23-3) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Elle Ruffridge scored 22 points in the final game of her record-breaking career to lead Pocahontas Area past Sioux Center 61-38 Saturday for the Indians’ second straight Class 3A state championship.

Whether she was scoring herself or setting up teammates, the dynamic 5-foot-4 guard delighted her school’s large fan following one last time in a victory that was surprisingly one-sided.

Sioux Center entered the game 26-0 with a talented group of athletes, but the Warriors were no match for their quicker, sharp-shooting opponent. Pocahontas (27-1) made 12 3-pointers and held Sioux Center scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Ruffridge went 6-for-8 from 3-point range and added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Payton Hjerleid added 12 points for the Indians, Faith Meyer scored 11 and Ashlyn Weidauer had eight.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Lizzy Wendell scored 25 points, leading three Bulldogs to reach 20, and No. 22 Drake beat Wichita State 105-89 on Saturday, winning its 19th straight game and becoming the first team to go undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference regular-season play. The victory also gave the Bulldogs a 13-0 home record, becoming the second team in program history to go unbeaten at home since 1978-79. Additionally, Drake (25-4, 18-0) has its highest win total since 2001-02.

The Bulldogs and the Shockers both have first-round byes for the conference tournament that opens Thursday in Moline, Illinois. While Drake awaits to learn its opponent, Wichita State will play Southern Illinois on Friday.

Sammie Bachrodt added 23 points and Brenni Rose 22 with both making five of Drake’s school-record 19 3-pointers on 31 attempts. Drake, which led 51-44 at halftime, broke the game open by scoring the final 12 points of the third period, with Wendell and Becca Hittner scoring five points each in the run, to go up 83-64. Drake led by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter. Rangie Bessard led the Shockers (14-15, 9-9) with 24 points and nine rebounds.
