Welcome to Medicare Seminar at Next Healthy U

Atlantic, IA – The November session of Cass Health’s Healthy U lunch-and-learn series will feature information about Medicare. “Welcome to Medicare” is a one-hour seminar offered by local Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteers. The seminar will be held on Thursday, November 16 at noon in Conference Room 2 at Cass Health.

“Welcome to Medicare” will cover Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare supplement insurance.

SHIIP is a service of the State of Iowa. SHIIP services are free, confidential, and unbiased. SHIIP counselors are trained by the state and do not sell or promote any insurance companies, policies, or agents. Cass Health is a local sponsor for SHIIP in Cass County.

No. 4 Williamsburg hosts No. 3 Mount Vernon in 3A quarterfinals tonight (Friday night)

Two teams that finished as runner-ups a years ago collide in the 3A quarterfinals Friday night when third ranked Mount Vernon visits number four Williamsburg. Mount Vernon coach Lance Pederson is concerned about the Raiders’ speed.

WaMaC Conference rivals in other sports this will be their first meeting in football since 2017.

Williamsburg coach Curt Ritchie says the teams have a lot of similarities.

Ritchie says it is not a surprise these teams are meeting in the playoffs.

Red Oak man arrested on a 2nd offense Assault charge

Police in Red Oak (Iowa) report 27-year-old Jordan Alex Pfeil, of Red Oak, was arrested early this (Friday) morning, on an Assault charge. Pfeil was taken into custody at around 12:15-a.m. in the 1800 block of  E. Summit Street, on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault/2nd offense. He was transported to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and held without bond.

(Update) Johnston woman charged in livestock neglect case

(Adel, IA) – In an update to our previous report, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office says a woman from Johnston is facing charges after dozens of horses were seized as part of an investigation into livestock neglect. Authorities say 78-year-old Linda Kay Kilbourne has been charged with livestock neglect. Additional charges are pending.

On Wednesday, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said a search warrant was executed at 33034 165th Street in rural Dallas County, in reference to an ongoing live stock neglect investigation at that location.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives located 46 horses on the property that were in need of Veterinarian care. These horses were seized as a part of this investigation.

No. 5 Sioux Center hosts No. 7 Bishop Heelan 3A quarterfinals tonight (Friday night)

A regular season rematch takes place in Sioux Center as the fifth ranked Warriors host number-seven Sioux City Heelan in the 3A quarterfinals. These teams met back in week five and Sioux Center claimed a 21-0 win.

That’s Sioux Center coach Tim Van Regenmorter who says the Warrior special teams need to be better than in last week’s win over Algona.

Heelan coach Jon LaFleur on trying to avenge the regular season loss.

LaFleur says the Crusaders must win the turnover battle.

OABCIG hosts No. 2 Underwood in 1A quarterfinals tonight (Friday night)

OABCIG will be looking to post an upset when the Falcons host second ranked Underwood in a class 1A quarterfinal round game Friday night. OABCIG coach Larry Allen says his offense needs to solve an Underwood defense that has given up only 53 points and posted six shutouts this season.

Allen says the Falcon offense needs to stay on schedule.

No. 3 Madrid visits No. 7 AC-GC in Class A quarterfinals tonight (Friday night)

Former teammates will be on opposite sidelines tonight (Friday night), when third ranked Madrid visits number seven AC-GC in a class A quarterfinal round contest. AC-GC coach Cody Mathewson played at Madrid with Tiger coach Brock Hinkle.

Madrid is in search of its first trip to the UNI-Dome since 2011.
