A young Iowa State men’s basketball team opens the new season at home on Monday night against Green Bay. The Cyclones have played in two straight NCAA Tournamets under coach T.J. Otzelberger and defense remains the focus.

Otzelberger says this team will be more versatile from a lineup perspective.

Sundance Wicks is in his first season as Green Bay coach. The Phoenix were 3-29 last season.

The third ranked Iowa Hawkeye women open the season on Monday night against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights have an entire new lineup under first year coach Stephanie Gaitley.

That’s Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. The Hawkeyes have already sold out the entire season in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Bluder does not want to taper the attention the team is getting after last seasons run to the NCAA title game but knows high expectations come with it.

The game will be played in front of a large contingent of elementary school students.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — University of Iowa women’s soccer downed No. 12 Wisconsin, 1-0, on Sunday at Lower.com Field to win its second Big Ten Tournament Championship in program history.

Iowa is the first eighth-seed to win the conference tournament. The Hawkeyes clinched the league’s at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, adding a third consecutive ranked win to their resume. In program history, Iowa has never dropped three ranked teams in a row.

The Hawkeyes improve to 12-4-4 (3-4-3) heading into NCAA Tournament action. The shutout marks Iowa’s 12^th clean sheet this season, matching a program record during Head Coach Dave DiIanni’s first season in 2014.

“We are so incredibly proud of our team. Honestly, just like Thursday night, Penn State and Wisconsin are unbelievable opponents. We were under pressure right until the end there, but we withstood it. We have been asking for a little bit more from this group all year long. Just a little bit more investment, a little bit closer attention to the details. Honestly, the last three games they have been rock solid, and I am so very proud of them…

[Freshmen Millie Greer and Eva Pattison] have got two seniors on either side of them in Sam Cary and Maggie Johnston. [That said] we have asked a lot of them this year. Every situation in different games is new to them, and they have been able to be resilient and adjust to it. Quite honestly, they have been good leaders for us. They are bracketed with Macy [Enneking] behind them, so we have got good leadership for them, but we are really proud of them.

We need a little bit of rest, and we need to get healthy, but we all feel good here with the trophy. We are hoping that we can get a [strong] seed, and we are really proud to be in it.”

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Iowa women’s wrestling team is coming home with a total of ten top three finishes, including six champions from the Princeton Open this Sunday at the Jadwin Gymnasium.

The Princeton Open was a great season opener competition with other collegiate programs from the East coast, women’s club programs and senior age women to compete against. There was great wrestling from our women and we are looking forward to continuing to get better throughout the season. We are appreciative of the Hawk Fans support, that showed up, and tuned in.”

Hawkeyes Wrap Up Fall Season at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Iowa rowing team finished its final event of the fall season at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie.

Iowa competed against some of the top teams in the nation, in the eight’s and four’s women’s open.

UI competed against a stacked field consisting of, No. 3 Princeton and No. 8 Penn, as well as Big Ten rivals, No. 15 Rutgers and No. 17 Indiana. In the women’s open four, Iowa placed 3^rd overall.

The Hawkeyes will open up their spring season in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 9 with an exhibition against the University of Central Florida.

“The Princeton Chase, once again, served as an amazing test for the Hawkeyes. Getting to race some of the top teams in the country really helped to test our resilience as a team and our results show some real promise for the spring season. The weekend was highlighted by our top three finish in the women’s open four. Everyone raced hard in both of their 3-mile races. We learned a lot about racing today and have our sights set on improving through winter training.”
