Adair County Supervisors to hold special mtg Thursday

The Adair County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Session Thursday morning, at the courthouse in Greenfield. During the 9:30-a.m. meeting, the Board will hear from Cass-Adair County Engineer Charles Marker, with regard to Fiscal Year 2013 requests for: the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management (IRVM) Program; Road clearing and Weeds. The Board will also discuss Tax Increment Financing (TIF), and Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) Projects.

Man arrested in Taylor County had BAC 3.5x the legal limit

A man arrested in Taylor County is lucky to be alive, after tests showed his Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was three and one-half times the legal limit for intoxication in Iowa. According to the Lenox Police Department, 30-year old Clint A. Auger was arrested at around 6:40-p.m., Tuesday, after authorities were called to the Parking lot of Cheese’s Grocery store, in response to an intoxicated male.

Officials say Auger, who refused to provide an address where he lived, was found to be in possession of two half-consumed bottles of Vodka. Following a preliminary breath test, which indicated his blood alcohol content was at .298, Auger was arrested and transported to the Taylor county jail on a charge of public intoxication.

Atlantic man arrested for assault on a Police Officer

An Atlantic man was arrested last week on assault charges. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year old Joseph Donald Fredericksen was arrested Dec. 29th, and charged with two counts of Serious Assault on a Police Officer. Fredericksen was also charged by Atlantic Police with Theft in the 5th Degree, Interference with Official Acts, and Public Intoxication/2nd Offense, in connection with events which took place on the 29th. He remains in the Cass County Jail, with bond was set at $2500 on all charges. 

The Sheriff’s Department says also, a 17-year old juvenile male was cited in Juvenile Court on a felony charge of Possession with the Intent to Deliver/Marijuana, following a traffic stop Saturday (Dec. 31st), on I-80 in Cass County. And, on Sunday (Jan. 1st), deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year old Joshua Brock Edwards, of Cumberland, on a charge of OWI 1st Offense. Edwards was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was released later that day on his own recognizance.

Numerous people cited in Cass County for Possession of Alcohol under legal age

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports that as the result of an anonymous tip received on December 28th, and a subsequent check on a rural party, 14 people were cited into magistrate’s court for Possession of Alcohol Underage. Among those cited was: 20-year old Mackinze Marie Anstey, of Cumberland; 19-year old Jaxson D. Armstrong, of Anita; 19-year old Angela Whitney Arp, of Massena; 19-year old Paige Holland Dinkla, of Massena; 18-year old Laura Lee Beth Dolch, of Atlantic; 18-year old Taylor May Dorsey, of Anita; 19-year old Delbert Franklin Dale Halcomb, of Dallas Center; 19-year old Shay Dean Kaufman, of Anita; 19-year old Tanner Stuart Runyan, of Massena; 18-year old Preslee Ann Sisler, of Anita; 19-year old Kelsey May Smith, of Anita; 18-year old Makaye Diane Smith, of Anita; 19-year old Alex C. Stork, of Atlantic, and 20-year old James Dylan Swanson, of Marne. In addition, one juvenile male was also cited into juvenile court for being a Minor in Possession of alcohol.

Atlantic City Council to hold 1st session of 2012 tonight (1-4-12)

The Atlantic City Council will hold its first session of the new year this evening. The Council, with new members Chris Jimmerson and Ashley Hayes on board for their first meeting, will hear an update from Snyder and Associates Engineers, about ongoing public works projects, and set the date for a public hearing on the City’s 2012 Capital Improvement Projects. In other business, the Atlantic City Council will hear a report from Street Department Superintendent Derald Andersen, handle administrative matters, and act on a Resolution approving the dedication of Pine Ridge Estates Infrastructure Improvements to the City. The meeting begins at 5:30.

Cass County Republicans vote for Santorum

Dave Wiedersteen, Chair of the Cass County Republican Party, said last night attendees at the caucuses in the County selected Rick Santorum as their choice to take on President Obama in November’s elections. Santorum received 170 votes (25%), Newt Gingrich 147 (22%), Mitt Romney…who ultimately went on to win the State by a mere 8 votes, received 141 votes in Cass County (21%). Ron Paul drew 116 votes during the Cass County Caucus (17%), Rick Perry 66, Michele Bachmann 32, and Jon Huntsman who never even campaigned in Iowa, received 2 votes.

In Shelby County, where turnout at the caucuses was slightly over 10-percent (which was higher than the last caucus in 2008) Republican Party Chair Larry Madsen reports Rick Santorum received 153 votes, Ron Paul 108, Michele Bachmann 85, Mitt Romney 63, Rick Perry 46, and Newt Gingrich received 39 votes.

Eslewhere in the KJAN listening area: Rick Santorum was the top vote getter in Adair (25% of the vote), Audubon (24%), Guthrie (24%), Harrison (32%), and Montgomery County (29%).  Ron Paul swept Adams County, with 37% of the vote. Pottawattamie County went to Mitt Romney, with 26% of the votes cast being for the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucus.

Red Oak teens arrested for Minors in Possession

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports two Red Oak teens were arrested Monday night for being Minors in Possession of Alcohol. 18-year old Trevor Stapleton and 17-year old Jesse Wilwerding were taken into custody after the vehicle they were in was stopped for speeding on Highway 34 at around 11:45-p.m., Monday. Officials say both teens were found to be under the influence of alcohol. In addition to being a Minor in Possession, Wilwerding, who was driving the vehicle, faces  a charge of Operating a motor vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI).

Harlan woman arrested on drug & alcohol charges

The Harlan Police Department Tuesday, reported 26-year old Amanda Wicker, of Harlan, was arrested Saturday on drug and alcohol charges, following  a traffic stop. Wicker was charged with OWI, driving while revoked, Possession of a controlled substance, prohibited acts, open container, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wicker posted a $2,000 bond Tuesday, and is scheduled to appear in court for her preliminary hearing on Jan. 19th.

The H-P.D. says also, 29-year old Bruce Spray, of Harlan, was arrested last Thursday, on charges of eluding, and driving while revoked. Spray was being held in the Shelby County Jail on $2,000 bond.

A picture on Facebook resulted in a Harlan teen being charged with 3rd degree theft, an aggravated serious misdemeanor. According to Harlan Police, on Dec. 28th, Susan King filed a police report which alleged 18-year old Spencer Seyler, of Harlan, had taken an ivory necklace from her home. King produced as evidence, pictures posted on Facebook, of Seyler wearing the necklace. A complaint was signed and filed in the Shelby County Clerk of Court’s Office, on Tuesday, Jan. 3rd.
