The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Ralston woman on Saturday on an outstanding warrant. At 9:30am Saturday Deputies arrested 25-year-old Rachel Elaine Hill of Ralston on an outstanding Audubon County warrant for Theft in the 5th Degree. The charges stem from the investigation into a check written to an Audubon County business in September of 2016. Hill was taken to the Audubon County Jail and plead guilty to the charge and was released. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.

Two Illinois men were arrested early Friday morning in Audubon County on drug charges following a traffic stop. At 3:30am Friday, June 16th a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 71 and Littlefield Drive. K-9 Axel alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and marijuana was discovered. 24-year-old Christopher Deon Prince and 21-year-old James Marqurise Johnson both of Dolton, Illinois were arrested on a charge of Possession of Marijuana.  Both Prince and Johnson were taken the Audubon County Jail and held on $1,000 bond.

No injuries were reported following a rollover accident Sunday evening, in Creston. According to the police report, 27-year old Scott Joseph Draman, of Creston, was driving a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer eastbound on W. Spencer Street at around 6:45-p.m., when he went to pass a vehicle that had slowed down. Draman hit the gas pedal and did not let go. The SUV went out of control, hit a ditch and rolled over. Draman was checked out by medics at the scene before being released.

Damage from the crash amounted to $7,000. No citations were issued.

Local band Popcorn Button will be back on stage at the Elks Lodge in Atlantic for a night of free music and dancing. As always, admission is free, and dancers and listeners of all ages are invited to attend on Friday, June 30th from 7 to 10 pm.

The dance, titled “Let Freedom Swing” will see the sixteen-piece ensemble perform big band favorites like “In the Mood,” “Stardust,” and “Hoop-de-Doo Polka.” Event organizers encourage dancers of all skill levels to enjoy the live music and get out on the dance floor.

Popcorn Button, founded in 2010, is a group of volunteer musicians from all walks of life. Many hail from the Atlantic community, including alumni of Atlantic High School. Also featured are students and recent alumni from Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa, and the community at large.

Since 2012, the band has operated the Popcorn Button Community Music Scholarship. This award supports young musicians from the community as they attend honor bands, band camps, and music lessons.

Let Freedom Swing is a free public event. All ages and dancing abilities are invited and encouraged to attend on Friday, June 30th at the Elks Lodge at 501 Poplar Street in Atlantic. A free will donation will be accepted at the door to defray the band’s operating costs and support the scholarship program. A search warrant executed late Sunday in Shenandoah resulted in the arrest of two people on burglary charges. Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports 24-year old Shelby Lynn Ross and 35-year old Dustin Eugene Kalkas, both of Shenandoah, were taken into custody for Burglary in the 3rd degree. They were transported to the Fremont County Law Enforcement Center and held on $5,000 cash bond, each.

Aistrope says the warrant was executed in the 1100 block of W. Lowell Avenue, in Shenandoah. During their search, deputies found numerous pieces of stolen property reported missing from Fremont, Montgomery and Page Counties, along with the City of Shenandoah.

Fremont County Deputies were assisted by personnel from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Shenandoah P-D. The investigation is ongoing, with additional charges pending.

Creston Police, late Friday afternoon, arrested 38-year old Michael Waddingham, of  Orient, on three Union County warrants. Waddingham was taken into custody at the Law Enforcement Center on warrants for Failure to Appear on the original charges of 2 counts Controlled Substance Violation, Failure to appear to serve sentence on the original charge of Driving While Barred, Failure to Appear on the original charges of Controlled Substance Violation and Introduce Intoxicants or drugs into institution. He was being held without bond, in the Union County Jail.

Creston Police are also investigating two incidents. A resident of the 200 block of N. Sycamore Street reported early Friday morning, that he returned home to find his front and rear door had been kicked in during the night. The damage was estimated at $150. And, Saturday evening, a resident of the 400 block of N. Chestnut Street in Creston, reported that the back drivers side window of her vehicle had been broken out while at her residence sometime between 5:55- and 6:20 pm, Saturday. The damage was estimated at $150.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s office reports two motorcyclists from Michigan were injured in a two vehicle accident on Sunday evening on Highway 34. At 5:15pm deputies responded to the accident one half mile east of 200th Street on US Highway 34.

After investigation it was determined that a 1996 Harley Davidson Motorcycle owned and operated by 55-year-old Stephen W. Byers of Rochester Hills, MI was westbound on Highway 34 when he lost control of the motorcycle on the uneven lanes in a construction zone. The cycle slid on its side into the north ditch. A 1984 Harley Davidson Motorcycle owned and operated by 62-year-old John F. Pihajlic of Lake Orion, MI. was traveling with Byers and lost control of his cycle and laid it on its side and slid into the north shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision with Byers.

Both Byers and Pihajlic were transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. No citations were issued and damage was estimated at $6,500 to the Byers motorcycle and $1,200 to the Pihajlic motorcycle.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire and Rescue.
