NORMA EICHELBERGER, 89, of Avoca, died Sunday, May 28th, at Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center. Memorial services for NORMA EICHELBERGER will be held 10-a.m. Friday, June 2nd, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Avoca.

Visitation will be held at the United Church of Avoca from 5-until 7-p.m. Thursday, June 1st.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at Avoca.

NORMA EICHELBERGER is survived by:

Her sons – Rex (Paula) Eichelberger, of Avoca, and Lafe Eichelberger, of Saint Augustine, FL.

Her daughters – Margie (Mike) Espelund, of Council Bluffs, and Sally (Larry) Obrecht, of Harlan.

NANCY E. ALLEN, 85, of Avoca, died Monday, May 29th, at Myrtue Medical Center, in Harlan. Funeral services for NANCY ALLEN will be held 2-p.m. Saturday, June 3rd, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Harlan.

Friends may call at the funeral on Friday, June 2nd, from 6-until 8-p.m., with the family present.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

Her son – Kevin Allen, of Omaha.

Her step-daughter: Carolyn Allen, of OH.

PEARL M. YEAGER, 78, of Panora, died Sunday, May 28th, at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center. Graveside services for PEARL YEAGER will be held 10:30-a.m. Thursday, June 1st, at the Brethren Cemetery in Panora. Twigg Funeral Home in Panora has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wed., May 31st, from 5-until 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery at Panora.

PEARL YEAGER is survived by:

Her sons – Joe Yeager, of Des Moines; Kevin (Drenda) Yeager, of Linden; Bob Yeager and Wayne Yeager, both of Panora, and Dale Fender, of CO.

Her daughter – Carol (Doug) Long, of Panora.

Authorities: Girl hurt in 60-foot fall at Iowa state park

DUNDEE, Iowa (AP) – Authorities say an 8-year-old girl has been injured after falling 60 feet at a state park in eastern Iowa. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said in a news release that the girl was hiking with friends and family Sunday afternoon at Backbone State Park when she fell. Department spokesman Alex Murphy said Monday that the girl may have been jumping from rock to rock and then slipped, plunging down a steep embankment. He could not confirm the girl’s name.

The girl’s companions called 911 for help, and she was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Her condition has not been released.

Theft report from Creston P-D

The Creston Police Department says three people reported incidents of Theft, Sunday. A Norfolk, NE residents told police a license plate was taken from his 2009 Toyota Yaris, while it was parked at the Creston Family Restaurant, May 28th.

A resident of the 800 block of N. Sycamore Street in Creston reported that sometime between 8-p.m. Saturday and 10-a.m. Sunday, someone stole a Milwaukee-brand Hackzall and Hitachi 18-volt drill set. The loss was estimated at $175.

And, a resident of the 900 block of N. Lincoln Street in Creston reported that sometime between 9-p.m. Saturday and 7-a.m. Sunday, someone stole his maroon 1996 Buick regal Custom 2-door from his driveway. The vehicle was later located at an undisclosed location.

The Creston Police Department reports five weekend arrests.Early this (Monday) morning, 37-year old Juliann Marquis Edsall, of Creston, was arrested on a Union County warrant for felony Unauthorized Use of a Credit card. She was being held in the Ringgold County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

On Sunday, 24-year old Trevor James Perrigo, of Clive, was arrested for OWI/1st offense, and three counts of Possession of a Concealed Weapon. He was later released on $2,000 bond.

On Saturday, 45-year old Anita Ruth Michael, of Creston, was arrested on a Union County warrant for Failure to Appear in court on a Child Support matter. She was being held in the Ringgold County Jail on a $240 bond. Also arrested Saturday, was 31-year old Joshua David Coulter, of Creston, who was taken into custody on a Union County warrant for felony Forgery, and Theft in the 5th Degree. He was being held in the Union County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Last Friday, Melissa Shinn, of Creston, was arrested for Driving While Barred. She was later released on $2,000 bond.

The Grant United Methodist Church will hold its annual Memorial Day Dinner from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2017, with a free-will offering. The menu includes: sloppy joe or ham sandwich, baked beans, assorted salads, pies and desserts, and coffee, tea or lemonade. All money raised by the dinner supports the Grant United Methodist Women and their work for mission projects and the Grant church. The dinner follows an 11 a.m. memorial service at the Grant Cemetery. Grant Community Preservationists (GCP) will hold the service to honor lost veterans with readings, song and an honor roll. Small individual flags will be available for families of veterans to place on their graves; GCP will be responsible for collecting them after the holiday. Following the dinner at 2 p.m., Jim & Kathy Wymore’s band, Rock N’ Country, will present live music at the Grant Park. The band includes the Wymores, Jerry Forney, Dave Reeves, Mike Jurey and Art Sellars. They will also feature talented young area musicians including: Josh Daniels, Joe Smith, Brandon Allee and Bailey Marie. Admission is $6, and GCP will offer concessions. The Grant United Methodist Church, founded in 1855, is a multigenerational church focusing on concern for its neighbors and providing a center of worship for all ages. Worship services are celebrated at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.

Join the Lewis Town & Country Boosters and the Pancake Man on May 29th from 7:30 – 10:30 am at the Lewis Community Center. They will be serving pancakes & sausages, juice and coffee for a free will donation.

Exira Lions Memorial Day Breakfast will be held at the Lions Community Center on Monday, May 29th from 8 am to 1 pm. Serving waffles, sausage, biscuits and gravy, French toast, juice and coffee for a free will offering. Also, they will be serving lunch from 11 am to 1 pm of a hot sandwich with chips and a drink for $6.00.

Anita Congregational UCC Annual Memorial Day Dinner will be held on May 29th from 11 am – 1 pm. Dinner includes: ham balls, gourmet potatoes, corn, green beans, fruit salad, dinner roll, drinks and delicious homemade pies. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kids 12 and under. Atlantic Memorial Day Service will be held on May 29th at the Atlantic Memorial Cemetery at 10 am. Atlantic High School band, local scouts and veterans will be involved in the ceremony. Featured speaker is Naval Reserve Commander Chaplain Michael Moreno of Norfolk, NE. Volunteers are need to help take down flags Monday at 5 pm. Griswold Memorial Day Service will be held on May 29th at the Griswold Cemetery at 10:30 am. Speaker is Mick Gutau of Treynor State Bank, a fly over is planned, bagpipper, Jenny Tritz will perform. The legion will be serving lunch following the service.

The Walnut American Legion invites the public to help honor the veterans of Walnut on May 29th at 9 am at the Legion Hall in Walnut. The Legion will be honoring 5 Legion membes with certificates for 70, 60 and 50 years of continuous membership. Following the certificate ceremony, Legion members will hold their Memorial Day services in the Layton Township Cemetery at 10 am, followed by the Catholic Cemetery at 10:30 am and finally at the city park at 10:45 am.

Shelby Memorial Day Services will be held on May 29th at 9:45 am at the Shelby Cemetery. The Shelby American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, AHST Junior High band students, Boy and Girl Scout troops, and others wishing to participate are asked to meet at the gate of the Shelby Cemetery at 9:45 am.

Audubon Memorial Day Services will be held on May 29th at Arlington Heights Cemetery at 10:30 am. In case of bad weather it will be held at the Audubon High School.

Neola Memorial Day Services will be held on May 29th at 11 am in the Neola Cemetery. The Neola American Legion will host the event. St. Patrick’s Catholic Church will hold an outdoor mass prior to the service at 10 am. There will be the Avenue of the Flags, where the flags will line both sides of the road into the cemetery.
