Homecoming week underway in Atlantic

Trojan LogoIt’s Homecoming week for the Atlantic Trojans. A week full of activities will take place leading up to the Atlantic vs. Knoxville football game on Friday.

Dress up days for the week are as follows.

Monday: (A)Merica Monday
Tuesday: Tacky Tourist
Wednesday: Western Wednesday
Thursday: Travel Day – PJ’s
Friday: Coming Home – Spirit Day

Dodgeball will be played Tuesday and Thursday and each class will make a float and judging will be held Wednesday evening.

Voting for king and queen will take place on Wednesday, 10/6, after the Royalty Introductions during seminar. Queen candidates: Ava Bruckner, Chaylei Carey, Addison DeArment, Reagan Leonard, Aspen Niklasen, Addison Schmitt, Malena Woodward. King candidates: Lee Houser, Garrett McLaren, Tyler Molina, Gannon O’Hara, Ethan Sturm, Kadin Stutzman, Julian Tribolet.

Coronation/Pep Assembly will start at 12:13 pm on Friday, 10/8 with the parade to follow at 2:30. AHS encourages businesses and individuals to join the parade! Contact the office at

Mahomes throws 5 TD’s as Chiefs down Eagles

Andy Reid became the first head coach in NFL history to win 100 games with two different franchises, as his current team the Kansas City Chiefs beat his former team the Philadelphia Eagles 42-30.

Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes, three to Tyreek Hill as the Chiefs got the offense cooking. Kansas City racked up 472 yards of offense in the victory. Clyde Edwards-Helaire finished with 102 yards on the gound.

Jalen Hurts threw for 387 yards and two scores for the Eagles in the loss.

Kansas City improves to 2-2 on the season and will next up host the Bills for a big Sunday Night Football match-up.

Iowa rises to No. 3 in AP Poll

(Radio Iowa)  It will be number three versus number four Saturday in Kinnick Stadium when Iowa Hawks Penn State. The Hawkeyes are up to third in the latest AP College Football Poll. The Hawkeyes are 5-0 after a 51-14 win at Maryland and have won 11 straight games dating back to last season. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.

Ferentz says the Hawkeyes need to keep making strides.

Quarterback Spencer Petras continues his improved play. He had three touchdown passes against the Terps and rushed for two more.

Iowa State enters bye week after blasting Kansas

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa State heads into a bye week with a 3-2 record after a 59-7 drubbing of Kansas. Cyclone coach Matt Campbell was pleased with the way his team bounced back from a loss at Baylor.

Despite suffering two losses Campbell is happy with the way his team is playing.

Campbell says being successful on game day begins with performing well in practice.

UNI rolls in Missouri Valley opener

(Radio Iowa) – UNI rolled to a 34-7 win over Youngstown State in their Missouri Valley opener. The Panthers raced out to a 31-0 lead at halftime as they improved to 3-1 on the season.

That’s UNI coach Mark Farley who says the Panthers have built momentum with their third straight win.

Farley says it was a good test for his team.

Next up is a visit to North Dakota State.

Drake edges past Butler

The Drake Bulldogs edged out a 6-3 win over the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday in Indianapolis. Drake trailed 3-0 at half. Cross Robinson had the lone score with a four yard touchdown run that capped a 90-yard drive to start the second half.

Butler threatened to take the lead back after driving all the way down to the Drake 1 yard line but defensive lineman Max Johnson forced a fumble that Drake linebacker Declan Carr recovered in the end zone for a touchback.

Colin Howard led the Drake offense with 92 yards on four catches. Drake halted a 3 game losing streak and improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Pioneer Football League play. Drake returns to Drake Stadium next Saturday for a noon contest against Dayton.

UNI wins homecoming tilt over Youngstown State

UNI fans had a happy homecoming on Saturday as the Panthers flew past Youngstown State 34-7 at the UNI-Dome.

Theo Day went 11-16 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers. Dom Williams gobbled up 119 yards on the ground with a score. UNI led 31-0 by the intermission after scoring 21 in the second quarter.

The Panthers move to 3-1 on the season and will travel next weekend to face North Dakota State.

Iowa State routs Kansas 59-7

Iowa State broke the game open early and routed Kansas 59-7 on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

The Cyclones scored a school record 28 points in the first quarter and pushed out to a 38-0 lead by halftime, taking advantage of two Jayhawk turnovers in the process.

Brock Purdy had a stellar performance going 17-22 fro 245 yards and four touchdowns trough the air. Breece Hall racked up 123 yards on the ground and scored twice. The Cyclones rushed for a season-high 290 yards as a team.

Iowa State improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12. The Cyclones now have a bye week before a road trip to Manhattan, KS to face Kansas State.
