Officials with the Cass County Health System in Atlantic report beginning July 5th, Roger Drown, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, will move out of Southwest Iowa Surgery and into Atlantic Medical Center, where he will continue providing foot and ankle care for all ages. CCHS CEO Brett Altman said of the change, “We are very fortunate to have such an excellent foot and ankle surgeon caring for our patients here at CCHS. There should not be any disruption in patient care with this change in clinic location.”

Dr. Drown began caring for patients at Cass County Health System in 2011 as a visiting specialist. In 2014, he moved his practice to CCHS. He performs a wide range of surgical procedures. All treatments are performed at Cass County Memorial Hospital and most surgeries are done on an outpatient basis.

Southwest Iowa Surgery will continue to schedule appointments through the end of June, but starting on July 3rd appointments with Dr. Drown can be made by calling the Atlantic Medical Center at 712-243-2850.

Unofficial results from the Pottawattamie County Auditor’s Office late Tuesday night, indicated Republican Jon Jacobsen had won a Special Election for Iowa House District 22, to fill a vacancy created in May, by the death of Representative Greg Forristall. Jacobsen currently serves as the Senior Trust Officer and Vice President of a bank in Council Bluffs.

According to the Auditor’s Office, Jacobsen garnered nearly 44-percent of the vote (1,069) votes. Carol Forristall, the widow of the late Greg Forristall, who was running as an Independent, received nearly one-third of the votes (803). Democrat Ray Stevens, who ran as a write-in candidate, received just over 19-percent of the votes (465). And, Libertarian candidate Bryan Holder received 98 votes or slightly more than four-percent.

Voter turnout was a little more than 9.5-percent, with 2,441 voters being cast out of 23,723 registered voters in the 16 precincts. Six were blank.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A father and son whose Iowa-based egg production company caused a massive 2010 salmonella outbreak have exhausted their appeals and a federal judge has ordered them to begin serving prison sentences. Peter DeCoster, 53, must report to the Federal Prison Camp in Yankton, South Dakota after July 30 and his 83-year-old father Austin “Jack” DeCoster must serve his three-month term at the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, New Hampshire, 30 days after Peter is released.

VERSAILLES, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri state trooper accused in the death of an Iowa man who drowned in lake while handcuffed will avoid a manslaughter trial after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor boating violation. The Kansas City Star reports Trooper Anthony Piercy entered the plea Tuesday. Investigators say Piercy stopped 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson at the Lake of the Ozarks in 2014. Ellingson was in the patrol boat with Piercy when he fell into the lake while handcuffed and wearing an improperly secured life vest.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Davenport elementary school teacher has been charged with possession and receipt of child pornography. The Quad-City Times reports that a federal complaint against 43-year-old Michael Loren Ross was unsealed Monday, when he made his first court appearance in Davenport. Prosecutors say Ross told officers who searched his home last week that he had child pornography and that he had both received and distributed it.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Police say 20 animals were seized from the home of an Ames woman accused of trying to perform surgery a puppy in her living room, which resulted in the dog’s death. The Des Moines Register reports that following a search Friday of 26-year-old McMenanim’s home, officials seized three dogs, two cats, six guinea pigs, five rabbits, two salamanders and two geckos. Officials say the animals’ cages and aquariums were covered in feces and urine.

Voters in the Griswold Community School District have approved a $9.9-million dollar General Obligation Bond issuance for the district’s facilities. The unofficial total from the Cass County Auditor’s Office, show 62.46% of the voters said YES (589), while 37.540% said NO (354). The results of the vote will be canvassed during a meeting of the Cass County Board of Supervisors.

The $9.9-million dollar bond issue would help to pay for a new, 33-thousand square foot elementary building onto the south side of the Griswold Middle School/High School campus. The district’s other buildings and students would be consolidated into the one campus location at Griswold.

Voters in the Red Oak Community School District have overwhelmingly approved a $19.9-million bond measure that will reduce the number of district buildings by one, and allow for the renovation of the districts three remaining buildings. The ballots cast were 987 YES (76.69%) and 300 NO (23.31%). A 60-percent super majority of votes was needed in order for the measure it to pass. The results are unofficial until canvassed by the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors. Voter turnout Tuesday was 27.55%, or just 1,287 out of a possible 4,672 registered voters.

With voter approval, the District’s pre-K and kindergarten students will be served at  the Washington Elementary School in Red Oak. The 1st through 6th graders at the Inman Primary School, and 7th through 12th grade students at the Red Oak High School. The move is designed to save the District about $400,000 per year. The total project cost is estimated at $29.16-million, with the State penny sales tax making up the difference between the $19.9 and 29.16-million.

The district tax levy will become $15.60 per $1,000 of taxable property value. The current levy is $14.28, while the levy approved for fiscal year 2017-2018 is $14.49, according to the district.
