(Radio Iowa) – Iowa State outscored Texas 21-0 in the third quarter and rolled to a 30-7 win over the Longhorns in Ames. The Cyclones had trailed 7-3 at halftime.

That’s ISU coach Matt Campbell. The Cyclones grabbed momentum early in the third quarter.

Iowa has decision to make at quarterback

Sports

November 8th, 2021 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa) – Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has a decision to make at quarterback as the Hawkeyes get set to host Minnesota. Sophomore Alex Padilla replaced Spencer Petras on the fourth drive of a 17-12 win at Northwestern and led the Hawkeyes to a pair of first half touchdown drives. Ferentz says Petras was nursing an injury suffered at Wisconsin.

Ferentz was not ready to name a starter after Saturday’s game.

The Hawkeyes are 7-2 and remained 19th in the latest AP Poll.

Chiefs hold off Packers 13-7

Sports

November 7th, 2021 by admin

The Kansas Chiefs scored 13 points in the opening half and used lots of pressure on Packer’s quarterback Jordan Love to earn their fifth win of the season Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Packers got a fourth quarter touchdown on a sideline pass to Allen Lazard but the Chiefs hit on a couple of big plays to run out the rest of the clock. Patrick Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill for a first down on a third and ten near midfield to seal the game.

The Packers struggled to get the offense moving with Jordan Love under center due to the absence of Aaron Rodgers due to COVID protocols. Green Bay finally put together a drive early in the fourth quarter but it ended when Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed picked off a pass intended for Davante Adams near the goal line. The Packers scored on the next drive but it was too little, too late.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 166 yards and one score to Travis Kelce in the first quarter. Harrison Butker connected on both of his field goal attempts in the game, including a 55 yarder right before half.

Jordan Love finished 19 of 34 passing for 190 yards with one TD and one interception in his first career start. The Packers fell to 7-2 on the year.

The Chiefs improved to 5-4 on the season and will now prep for a Sunday Night Football game at the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday.

Drake falls to Marist in defensive battle

Sports

November 7th, 2021 by admin

The Drake Bulldogs dropped a 7-0 game at Marist on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Red Foxes got the only score of the game in the third quarter on a 10 yard pass from Austin Day to Hunter Cobb.

Both teams missed field goal chances and the Bulldogs had one attempt blocked in the third quarter. The defenses dominated much of the game and the Red Foxes had just a slight advantage in total yardage and time of possession.

The Bulldogs were playing for the first time in three weeks following a COVID-19 outbreak and a bye week. The Bulldogs fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the PFL. Next up for Drake is a home game against PFL newcomer St. Thomas for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff next Saturday.

UNI falls in overtime at Illinois State

Sports

November 7th, 2021 by admin

UNI fell behind 10-0 but rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game against Illinois State and send it to overtime. The Redbirds hit on their first overtime possession with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Waring to Austing Nagel. UNI had their possession end with a pass that fell short of Bradrick Shaw for an incompletion that ended the game.

UNI looked like they were going to have a chance to win the game in regulation. Deion McShane returned a punt 69-yards to the Redbirds’ 1 yard line with just over a minute to play, but it was called back on a block-in-the-back penalty.

UNI outgained Illinios State 315-164 but a number of mistakes cost the Panthers scoring chances. Isaiah Weston was a bright spot once again with 142 yards receiving, he leads the FCS in yards per reception at 25.38.

The Panthers fell to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Valley. Next up for UNI is a road trip to No. 17 Missouri State for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on ESPN+

Iowa State sends Texas packing in 30-7 romp

Sports

November 7th, 2021 by admin

The Iowa State Cyclones came alive in the second half and blew past Texas 30-7 on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The Cyclones were down 7-3 at halftime but Breece hall quickly turned that around with a 47-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and the Cyclones pulled away.

Tarique Milton caught a 49-yard score from wideout Xavier Hutchinson on a trick play mid third quarter. Hall added another rushing score and Andrew Mevis kicked two field goals in the fourth to seal it.

Hall finished with 140 yards on 19 carries in the game. He extends his streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown to 21, the third best streak in NCAA FBS history. He also grabbed his 18th career multi-TD game, 4th most in Big 12 history.

Iowa State improved to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12. Next up for the Cyclones is a road trip to Texas Tech next Saturday. That game has been set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Wildcats got the ball back one last time after forcing an Iowa punt but Dane Belton picked off Marty with 1:44 left to seal the game.
