Police in Council Bluffs say a 42-year old employee of the Aldi Store at 3135 Manawa Avenue, was robbed this (Monday) morning, at knife-point, when he arrived to open the store. The suspect, a masked black male, took an undetermined amount of cash from business. He was last seen running from the store, carrying a white plastic trash can, which held money from the business. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect, who was about 6-feet 5-inches tall, and weighed about 160-pounds.
In addition to the mask, he wore a dark quilted coat, a blue Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He’s believed to be between 25- and 30-years old. Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Council Bluffs Police Department at 712-328-4728.
A man from Lewis was arrested Saturday on an assault charge. The Atlantic Police Department reports 37-year old Mish Loghry faces a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault. Logry was booked into the Cass County Jail.
Separate search warrants executed over the weekend in Shenandoah resulted in the arrest of six people. According to the Shenandoah Police Department, five persons were arrested after a search was conducted at a residence in the 1200 block of west Thomas Avenue, in Shenandoah. Ashley Greene, of Essex, and Jamie Stockwell, Katherine Lynn, and Dee Mattley, all of Shenandoah, were all charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Mattley faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. In addition, Matthew Whitt of Essex, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and also faces a charge of illegal possession of prescription drugs.
A 2nd search warrant was executed at a residence on west Lowell Avenue, resulted in the arrest of David Dawson, of Shenandoah, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Dawson, Greene, Lynn, and Stockwell were all cited into court and released. Mattley and Whitt both posted bond and were given a court date before being released. Deputies with the Fremont and Page County Sheriff’s Offices assisted Shenandoah Police in serving the search warrants.
The Fire Danger Index in Shelby County will remain in the “Moderate” category through this Thursday, November 8th. Emergency Management officials say sunshine and drying conditions expected for the balance of this week will create a moderate risk of grassland and field fires, when opening burning is conducted.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department reports 21-year old April Rutledge, of Atlantic, was injured early Sunday morning, during a rollover accident on Highway 34, north of Nodaway. While complete details were unavailable, officials said the accident happened near the 56-mile marker on Highway 34, at around 3:52-a.m. Rutledge was transported to Alegent Health Hospital in Corning. A report on her condition is not available.
The Police Chief in Bedford released a statement Saturday criticizing the writer of an article in the Des Moines Register, with regard to an incident which led to a Bedford High School student being hospitalized in critical condition, after suffering from a brain injury.
Police Chief Jeremy Holben said Kyle Munson’s article in Saturday’s paper was wrong when he said Bedford Police were not involved in an investigation of the alleged bullying incident involving 16-year old Kacey Strough, a Bedford student and football player. Holben said Munson never spoke with him or any of the officers on the Bedford Police force prior to publishing the story. The Chief said there is an active investigation into the incident, one that has been underway since it was reported two weeks ago.
In his article, Munson quoted family members who stated that Strough’s condition was the result of bullying by teammates. Holben said because of Strough’s medical condition, officers have not been able to interview him about the incident.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest Sunday night, of 34-year old Justin Wayne Swartz, of Grant. Swartz was charged with Child Endangerment and Simple Domestic Assault, following an incident that occurred at around 9:50-p.m., during which he allegedly hit a residence in the 300 block of 1st Street in Grant, with a skidloader. Swartz was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 bond. The Iowa State Patrol, along with Deputies from Cass County and Officers with the Iowa DNR, assisted at the scene.
Two people were injured, one of them seriously, during a collision Sunday northeast of Viking Lake State Park, in Montgomery County. Sheriff’s officials say22-year old Bradley Lee Dumler, of Villisca, was transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha by Mercy 3 helicopter, following the crash that happened at around noon, Sunday, near the intersection of 220th Street and S Avenue.
Dumler was a passenger in a 2007 Chrysler HHR driven by 25-year old Melissa Lynn Dumler, also of Villisca. Authorities say the couple was traveling west on 220th, when the vehicle hit loose gravel at the bottom of a hill. The vehicle went out of control and entered the north ditch, where it rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels in a field. Melissa Dumler suffered minor injuries. She was transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue, treated and released. The vehicle was a total loss.
