CAM girls start fast and grind out win over Boyer Valley

Sports

December 17th, 2021 by admin

The CAM girls basketball team opened up their game on Friday against Boyer Valley with an 11-0 run and held the lead near that mark most of the game. The Cougars picked up a 52-35 win over the Bulldogs and improved to 6-2 heading into the holiday break.

Reese Snyder was a big part of the early run with 11 of her game high 17 points in the first quarter. The Cougars’ press forced some quick turnovers by Boyer Valley that were converted into easy buckets. CAM head coach Joe Wollum talked about Snyder’s impact.

Mallory Behnken finsihed with 12 points and Eva Steffensen had 8. Coach Wollum liked the way the team played overall given that they saw some new defensive looks.

Coach Wollum thinks the Cougars are on the right track heading into the break.

Boyer Valley was led by 11 from Leah Cooper and 10 from Lauren Malone. The Bulldogs fell to 2-6 on the season. CAM will be back in action on January 4th against Glidden-Ralston.

CAM boys fight past Boyer Valley

Sports

December 17th, 2021 by admin

It was a slow offensive night but the CAM Cougars fought their way past Boyer Valley 40-32 on Friday night in Anita. Boyer Valley got within 1 to start the fourth quarter but CAM grabbed control back with a three point play from Sam Foreman and back to back corner threes from Colby Rich. That spurt put the Cougars out in front by ten at 32-22 and they hung on for the win.

The Cougars led by nine early but the Bulldogs cut it to a three point game at half on a banked in three by Caden Neilsen at the buzzer. Both teams struggled to get shots to fall but CAM Head Coach Ian Hunt said the guys did a good job sticking with it.

The Cougars did a great job making it tough for the Bulldogs to get in the lane and Coach Hunt said their defense has been great so far this year.

The Cougars are off to a 6-1 start to the season and Rich said this should give them some good momentum heading into the holiday break. He talked about knocking down those big threes in the fourth.

Rich finished with 14 points and Sam Foreman had a workmanlike 13. CAM will start the season back up on January 4th against Glidden-Ralston.

Cyclone & Hawkeye bowl game packages make for no-brainer vacations

Sports

December 17th, 2021 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa)  -With two Iowa football teams in bowl games in the same Florida stadium just three days apart late this month, many hundreds of Iowans are making holiday plans in the Sunshine State. John Roberts, assistant manger of the Triple-A branch in metro Des Moines, says travel packages for Cyclone and Hawkeye fans abound and those all-in-one packages make the most financial and logistical sense.

Both universities’ alumni associations are offering all-inclusive packages to Orlando through third-party vendors which promise to be filled with fight song-singing rallies and post-game festivities.

Orlando is an entertainment wonderland focused on all of its world-class magnets including Disney World, Epcot, Universal and SeaWorld.

Iowa State will meet Clemson in the Cheez-It Bowl on December 29th, while Iowa will play Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl on January 1st — both at Camping World Stadium in downtown Orlando.
