Officials say Iowa wind turbine’s blade snaps off

ADAIR, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in western Iowa are investigating how a wind turbine blade that’s the size of a football field snapped off. A technician for the Eclipse Wind Farm in Adair discovered the blade in a field Friday morning. Siemens Energy, the turbine manufacturer, is investigating the accident.

Iowa Wind Energy Association President Kathleen Law says it’s rare for a blade to get loose, and she’s never heard of this happening in Iowa. Television station KCCI reports Siemens Energy is working to replace the blade. Most of the blade that fell has been removed from the field.

Oakland man arrested Saturday on drug charges

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest on Saturday of a Pottawattamie County man, on drug charges. 25-year old Trey Garrett Drake, of Oakland, was taken into custody on felony charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, Aggravated misdemeanor charges of: Possession of Controlled Substance Hash 2nd or Subsequent, Possession of Controlled Substance Cocaine 2nd or Subsequent offense, and Prohibited Acts. He also faces a simple misdemeanor charge of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Drake was taken to the Cass County Jail where he posted $16,325 bond the following day and was released.

And, on Friday, April 5th, deputies in Cass County arrested 32-year old Steven Robert Pedersen, of Atlantic, on a District Court Warrant for Failure to Appear. Pedersen was taken to the Cass County Jail where he posted $500 bond and was released.

The Atlantic Police Department reports the arrest of two people over the past couple of days. On Saturday, April 6th the Atlantic P-D arrested 46-year old Robin Havens of Atlantic for Domestic Abuse Assault. She was transported to Cass County Jail and booked in.

On Sunday, April 7th the Atlantic Police Department arrested 19-year old Kala Moellenkamp of Atlantic on a Cass County Warrant for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was transported to the Cass County Jail and booked.

Page County Sheriff assaulted

Page County Sheriff Lyle Palmer was allegedly assaulted last Friday by an inmate at the Page County Jail. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at around 1:10-p.m., as Palmer was transferring 18-year old Keven Daniel Harris, of Bedford, from one cell to another. During the incident, the Sheriff suffered a cut to his lip. Harris was not hurt in the melee. The man was charged with felony assault on a Peace Officer.

If convicted, Harris faces up to 5-years in prison. His bond was set at $5,000. Harris was being held in the Page County Jail on an original, felony charge of Sexual Abuse in the 2nd degree, with bond set for that alleged offense at $25,000. His total bond now amounts to $30,000.

Frederickson Fund continues its support of school libraries

The Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund continues to support local school libraries again this year, by purchasing a series of NFL books for the Schuler Elementary School, and multiple copies of a series of books by Coach Sloth, for the Washington Elementary students. Both schools are located in Atlantic.

Trevor’s mom Melanie Petty, said reading was one of Trevor’s favorite things to do, and the Foundation named in his honor hopes that by bringing in new books each year, other children will develop a lifelong love of reading, as well.

Trevor was 21-years old, when his life was lost during a Council Bluffs apartment fire, in 2009. He was a graduate of the Atlantic High School.

Pott County residents injured in utility vehicle accident

Sheriff’s officials in Pottawattamie County report an Oakland man and a woman from Hancock were injured Sunday evening, when the utility vehicle they were riding in went out of control and flipped over. The accident happened about four-miles west of Hancock, at around 5:45-p.m., as Caleb Bryant, of Oakland, and Lisa Hunt, of Hancock, were traveling in a 2012 Yamaha utility vehicle owned by another Pott County resident.

Authorities say the pair were traveling eastbound along the grass edge of a cornfield near 410th and Mahogany, when the vehicle flipped and landed on its wheels. Bryant was transported by Lifenet Helicopter to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, for treatment of his injuries. Hunt was transported by Oakland Rescue to Mercy Hospital. Officials say she was wearing her seat belt, but it’s not clear if Bryant was buckled into the machine.

The utility vehicle sustained major damage during the crash. Officials say alcohol is believed to have played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Wiota man arrested on Audubon County warrant

A Wiota man was arrested Saturday morning on a warrant out of Audubon County for Contempt of Court. 24-year old Seth Michael Thompson appeared before the magistrate and was being held in the Audubon County Jail on $10,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court today (Monday).

Exira man arrested on felony Willfull Injury charge

The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department reports an investigation into a knifing incident Saturday, resulted in the arrest on Sunday, of an Exira man. 21-year old Jesse Lee Brubaker faces two felony charges of Willful Injury, in connection with an assault that resulted in two persons being cut with a knife outside of an Exira business late Saturday night. Brubaker was being held in the Audubon County Jail on $10,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by officers with the Audubon Police Dept. and Exira Fire and Rescue.

Clarinda man injured after falling from pickup truck bed

The Clarinda Police Department reports one person was injured after they fell out of the back of a pickup Saturday afternoon. 23-year old Quentin Russell Horter, of Clarinda, suffered non-incapacitating injuries, and was transported to the Clarinda Regional Health Center by Clarinda Ambulance, following the accident, which happened at around 3:15-p.m. Saturday, near the intersection of 15th and State Streets.

Officials say a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 30-year old Lorie Ann Tanner, of Clarinda, was traveling north on 15th Street when Horter fell out after the vehicle passed through the intersection. No citations were issued.
