IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Investigators say an Iowa parolee charged with killing a cab driver in June is also responsible for the April shooting death of a bail bondsman. Police said Curtis Jones is charged in the death of 34-year-old Jonathan Wieseler, who was shot during a robbery at his Iowa City office. Jones has been in custody awaiting trial in the death of 46-year-old Ricky Lillie, who police say was robbed and shot after giving Jones a ride.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A man died and two Davenport police officers were injured in an early morning weekend shooting. The Scott County sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Matthew Donald Tobin was killed in the shooting, which occurred after officers responded about 5:15 a.m. Sunday to a burglary report. The sheriff’s office says Tobin exchanged gunfire with the officers, identified as Justin King and Brenda Waline. Both officers were taken to a Davenport hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Police say a Dubuque woman has crashed into her second building in less than a week. The Telegraph Herald reports 65-year-old Margie F. Williams backed her vehicle into the Eagle Country Market on Monday morning, crashing through the store’s north entrance. Police say Williams thought the vehicle was in drive but it was in reverse. Store damage was estimated at $10,000. On Wednesday, Williams was cited when she backed a vehicle over a Main Street parking meter and crashed into a building.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Officials have acknowledged that secret waiting lists for psychotherapy appointments at Omaha’s U.S. Veterans Affairs Department hospital were used far longer than previously reported. The Omaha World-Herald reports that an internal VA investigation dated Sept. 30, 2015, says the lists were used as far back as 2006 and were still used after the VA prohibited them in 2010.

A Red Oak man was arrested Monday evening for shoplifting. The Red Oak Police Department report they arrested 47-year-old Clinton Joe Hans England of Red Oak at 6:52pm at 201 North 2nd Street in Red Oak for 5th Degree Theft. England was accused of shoplifting a $9 bottle of whiskey. England was taken to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $300 bond.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a call from OnStar about an accident west of L Avenue and Highway 34 east of Red Oak at about 2:20pm.

After arrival deputies determined that a 2002 Chevy Impala driven by 19-year-old Kaitlyn Georgianna Barrett of Bedford was traveling westbound on Highway 34 and pulled off onto the north shoulder with the intent to make a u-turn. Barrett then got in the path of a 2011 Buick Enclave driven by 80-year-old Donna Grace Carlson of Red Oak that was also traveling west on Highway 34. Barrett was flown from the scene to University of Nebraska Medical Center with a head injury. Donna Carlson and passenger 85-year-old Robert Leonard Carlson were taken to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital with possible injuries.

Damage to the Impala was estimated at $6,000 and damage to the Enclave was estimated at $18,000. Charges are pending at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Red Oak Fire and Rescue, Lifenet, Montgomery County EMA, The Red Oak Police Department, Eggleston Towing, and Bates Towing.

The perpetually circulated “Grandchild in trouble” phone scam is back. Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers said Monday, that a Clarinda resident was contacted that day by someone identifying himself as Sgt. Davis with the Clarinda Police Department. The caller stated the resident’s grandson had been arrested for possession of marijuana and needed $7,600 bail.

Brothers adamantly reports THIS IS A SCAM!!! The Clarinda Police Department does not have a Sergeant Davis & the call is a variation on the international grandchild is in trouble/arrest scam that has been circulating the past several years. The scammers, he said, are very convincing and may often times know the name of the grandchild, etc. as this information is easily obtained on the internet.

DO NOT provide any information to these people and hang up immediately. They may continue to repeatedly call back and be insistent you go to the bank immediately and withdraw funds. They will swear you to secrecy, etc. Again, this is a SCAM!!!

Residents of Atlantic and the surrounding area are being invited to attend a Legislative Forum on Health Care Issues. The event takes place 10-a.m. Monday, Nov. 27th, at Atlantic Specialty Care (1300 E. 9th St.), and features Representatives Tom Moore and Tom Shipley, along with other Constituents of the Legislature.

• Experiences with MCO’s – difficulties in patients receiving care, being turned down, now access to Medicare or Medicaid services.

The Council Bluffs Police Department is asking for help from the community in locating 40 year old Kenny Jay Anderson, of Council Bluffs. Anderson has a valid warrant for Burglary in the 1st Degree stemming from an incident that occurred Saturday at around 11:54-pm, during which Anderson allegedly forced his way into the home of 45-year old Angela Lipinski, of Council Bluffs. The house is owned by Lipinski’s mother, and is located in the vicinity of North 20th Street and Avenue A in Council Bluffs.

While inside the home Anderson assaulted Lipinski and struck her in the head with Garden Shears, causing injury to her head. Anderson fled the area prior to police arrival.

Anderson is also wanted on charges stemming from an incident which occurred on Oct. 20th, in Council Bluffs. There are valid warrants for his arrest stemming from that incident, including Assault to Inflict Serious Injury, Theft 4th and Criminal Trespass.

Authorities warn you should not attempt to confront Anderson. He is considered to be dangerous. Anyone with information on the location of Kenny Jay Anderson can call 911, the Criminal Investigations Division 712-328-4728 or crime stoppers 712-328-7867.

Police say Williams thought the vehicle was in drive but it was in reverse. Store damage was estimated at $10,000. On Wednesday, Williams was cited when she backed a vehicle over a Main Street parking meter and crashed into a building. She told police her foot got stuck between the accelerator and brake.

Police say Williams likely won’t be cited in Monday’s crash because it occurred on private property.
