One person suffered knee and other possible injuries Monday evening in Atlantic, when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a car near 7th and Plum Street. The Atlantic Police Department reports the bicycle driven by an unidentified individual, was traveling westbound on the sidewalk near Great Western Bank at 1407 E. 7th Street at around 5:55-p.m., when a vehicle struck the bike’s rear tire, causing the bicyclist to fall off. The person was transported by Medivac Ambulance to the Cass County Memorial Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

The accident happened as a vehicle driven by Pamela Skow, of Atlantic, was traveling north in the exit drive from the bank. Skow stopped, but then continued forward, striking the bike. Damage from the accident amounted to $800. No citations were issued.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A Sioux City woman has been convicted of three charges stemming from a fatal collision between her pickup and a motorcycle.  The Sioux City Journal reports that 37-year-old Kimberly Pauley pleaded guilty last week to not having a valid driver’s license and not having insurance. She entered an Alford plea to a charge of failing to yield while making a left turn. Under the Alford plea, Pauley didn’t admit guilty but acknowledged the prosecution likely could prove the charge.

Police say that on Sept. 27, Pauley turned her truck left in front of the motorcycle being driven by 25-year-old Cody Harris on the east side of Sioux City. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.  Pauley’s sentencing is set for June 27.

The Trevor Frederickson Memorial Fund recently donated $1000.00 to the Nishna Valley Family YMCA’s 2013 Partnership with Youth Campaign as Chairman’s Roundtable Members.

This is the 4^th year the fund has supported the YMCA. The fund was named in honor of Atlantic graduate, 21-year old Frederickson, who lost his life during a Council Bluffs apartment fire in 2009.

Nominations will be accepted beginning tomorrow (Wednesday) for the 11th annual Iowa’s Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin contest. Ron Birkenholz is with the Iowa Pork Producers Association, which sponsors the contest.

Breitbachs Country Dining in Balltown, was last year’s Iowa “Best Bread Pork Tenderloin” winner.

“Any restaurant, cafe, tavern…you know, anyone who serves a breaded pork tenderloin is eligible to be nominated,” Birkenholz says. “We encourage tenderloin lovers to get their nominations in on May 1st.” In addition to statewide publicity, the winner of the contest receives a plaque and $500.

“All the past winners have always told us they see a major influx of business,” Birkenholz says. “We’ve got people from all over the Midwest who follow this contest. We’ve had people from Illinois, Minnesota, and Missouri go to these restaurants that win to try (their pork tenderloin).” Iowans who want to submit a nomination can do so online at www.IowaPork.org. Entries are due by June 11.

Last year, Iowans submitted a record 993 nominations naming 65 restaurants. Judges visited the restaurants and ultimately chose Breitbach’s  Country Dining in Balltown as the 2013 winner of “Iowa’s Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin.” The winner of this year’s contest will be named in October, which is “Pork Month.” The winner of “Iowa’s Best Burger Contest” will revealed this Thursday. That competition is sponsored by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council.

A traffic stop at around 8:15-p.m. Monday in Adams County resulted in an arrest. Sheriff’s officials say 21-year old Christopher Cerda-Romo, of Lenox, was taken into custody after it was determined he was Driving While Suspended. Cerda-Romo was booked into the Adams County Jail and held pending an initial court appearance.

A Red Oak man was arrested Monday night on a drug charge. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year old James Donald Uhlmann, Jr., was taken into custody in the 1800 block of east Summit Street, in Red Oak, just before 9-p.m.  Uhlman was cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and released on $300 bond.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — The owner of Henry’s Turkey Service testified during a trial in federal court that he didn’t strike a disabled man who worked for him. Kenneth Henry spoke yesterday during the trial in Davenport, where the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is seeking compensation for 32 former employees whom it claims were mistreated.

The Des Moines Register reports northwest Iowa had the most expensive land, at $13,387 an acre.

Those surveyed were asked to estimate average values as of March 2013. The soaring prices are due largely to high prices for commodities, such as corn and soybeans, that have put farmers in position to buy land as well as low interest rates.
