Dinosaur’s long ago became extinct, but one of the creatures with a more modern lifespan is simply missing. The Omaha-World Herald reports a 3-foot tall, 150-pound cast iron dinosaur used as a lawn ornament, was stolen from a home in Council Bluffs. The sculpture was discovered missing on October 4th, by the home’s owner in the Dodge House area of Council Bluffs.

The Samples family said “Rex” the dinosaur has been in the family for 30 years.  While police continue to search for the unusual statue, the family  is offering a reward for Rex’ safe return. Anyone with information can call the Council Bluffs Police Department Crime Stoppers at 712-325-7867.

Authorities in Montgomery County report two people were arrested Friday afternoon after the pickup they were in was pulled over for a traffic violation. Deputies discovered the driver of the vehicle Dustin Ray Bozwell, of Red Oak, was allegedly intoxicated. He was taken into custody on charges that include OWI/3rd offense, driving while revoked on a previous OWI offense, interference with official acts, and open container. His passenger Tracy Lynn Bozwell, also of Red Oak, was charged with interference with official acts and open container.

The pair were taken to the Montgomery County Jail, where Dustin Bozwell was being held on $5,000 bond, and Tracy Bozwell, was being held on $300.00 bond.

Investigators in Red Oak are seeking information regarding a 1998 red Chevy pickup. The vehicle is believed to be involved in multiple burglaries around the area, including Red Oak.  Red Oak Police are asking for your help in locating pickup with Nebraska license plate number TEM 284. If observed, they ask you do not approach the vehicle, but to call your local law enforcement agency. A man from Guthrie County died Friday evening during a rollover accident in Fremont County. The Iowa State Patrol says they believe 54-year old Daniel Sheeder of Guthrie Center, had a medical issue before the pickup truck he was driving left the road as it was traveling east on Wausbonsie Avenue, at around 6-p.m.

The 2002 Ford F-150 entered the south ditch, later recrossed the road and entered the north ditch, where it hit a utility pole and rolled twice. The accident happened just east of Bartlett. Authorities say Sheeder was wearing his seat belt.  Sheeder, the father-in-law to Fremont-Mills High School football coach Jeremy Christiansen was reportedly on his way to the Fremont-Mills vs Southwest Valley football game at the time of the crash.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Iowa’s Jake Rudock once quarterbacked his Florida high school team in a game at Ohio Stadium. Saturday’s return to the Horseshoe figures to have a considerably different atmosphere. Rudock will lead the Hawkeyes (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten) against No. 4 Ohio State (6-0, 2-0), riding an 18-game winning streak, before more than 105,000 partisan fans.

Rudock, who led Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas to a lopsided victory over Upper Arlington before a small crowd in the cavernous stadium, is now in charge of a run-first offense led by running back Mark Weisman. Iowa’s staunch defense gives up just 89 yards on the ground per game.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are trying hard to concentrate on the Hawkeyes as they iron out a few problem areas heading into the stretch run.

Officials with the Atlantic Rotary Club have announced a partnership with the Cass County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CCCAPC) for their annual Rotary Auction Raffle. Proceeds from this year’s raffle will be used to support violence prevention efforts and educational activities at all three Cass County School Districts.

Kristen Templeton, CCCAPC coordinator, said  “Our goal is to focus on violence prevention education throughout the 2014-2015 school year in Cass County. We hope to do this by bringing in a dynamic speaker to start the year off and help spread this message to students and the entire community.”

The local Child Abuse Prevention Council has been in contact with internationally recognized speaker The Scary Guy about bringing his educational message to each school in Cass County at the beginning of the next school year. The multi-day program involves working with youth in each school, at an age appropriate level, to discuss concepts such as hate, violence and prejudice, while teaching youth skills to process information they see in the world around them and take responsibility for their own actions.

Community members interested in supporting this effort through the Rotary Auction Raffle are encouraged to contact a local Rotary member or CCCAPC member to purchase their raffle tickets. Tickets can also be purchased at the Atlantic Chamber, Cass County Public Health/Unity Point at Home in Atlantic, or at Rolling Hills Bank and Trust locations in Atlantic, Anita and Griswold.

An Atlantic man was arrested Friday (Oct. 18th) on alcohol and child endangerment charges. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says 29-year old Nathan Patrick Kinzie, of Atlantic, face a felony OWI 3^rd Offense charge, and two aggravated misdemeanor charges of Child Endangerment. Kinzie was taken to the Cass County Jail where he was being held on $9000 bond.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Department of Public Health is expanding its free nicotine replacement program in hopes of helping more residents quit smoking or chewing tobacco. The agency announced Friday that beginning Wednesday, people who enroll in the Quitline Iowa program will be eligible for eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy. That’s double the four weeks of therapy that was available.

Agency director Mariannette Miller-Meeks says the longer people have access to nicotine replacement patches, lozenges or gum, the better their chance of quitting use of tobacco. To enroll in the program, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or go online to www.quitnow.net/iowa.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office reports an investigation into a Thursday afternoon fire at a home in College Springs has resulted in an arrest. 41-year old Steven Dean Lundvall, of College Springs was arrested at around 3:45-p.m. and charged with Reckless Use of Fire, following an investigation into a fire at 706 Iowa Avenue in College Springs. Lundvall was being held in the Page County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Officials say at around 3:27-p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Page County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for assistance at a house fire in College Springs. Fire departments from College Springs and Clarinda were attempting to contain the flames in the home, which was unoccupied. The residence, owned by Kenny and Debbie McClarnon, sustained damage by heat generated from the fire.
