ROBERT DALE BUCK, 94, of Shelby, died Thursday, Feb. 22nd, in Harlan. Funeral services for ROBERT BUCK will be held 11-a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27th, at the 1st Presbyterian Church, in Shelby. Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Shelby has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 26th, from 2-untiol 8-p.m., with the family present from 5-until 7-p.m.; Online condolences may be left at www.burmeisterjohannsen.com.

Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery.

His wife – Aletha, of Shelby.

His sons – Robert H. Buck, of Shelby, & David (Traci) Buck, of Elkhorn, NE.

His daughters – Terry Larson, of Topeka, KS; Rebekah (John) Lambrix, of Rochester, NY., & Cynthia (Mark) Tuttle, of Urbandale.

His sisters – Bessie Langer, of Council Bluffs; Vera (Wayne) Raasch, of Harlan; Edna Barton, of Colorado Springs, CO., & Retha Buck, of New York, NY.

9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, other relatives & friends.

DOROTHY BRAMMER, 89, of Panora, died Wed., Feb. 21st, in Guthrie Center. A Funeral Mass for DOROTHY BRAMMER will be held 10-a.m. Tue., Feb. 27th, at the Saint Cecilia Catholic Church in Panora. Twigg Funeral Home in Panora has the arrangements.

Visitation at the funeral home is on Monday, Feb. 26th, from 5-until 7-p.m., with a Prayer service at 7-p.m.; Online condolences may be left at www.twiggfuneralhome.com.

Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Guthrie Center.

Red Oak man arrested on a felony Stalking charge

Police in Red Oak, Thursday afternoon, arrested 58-year old Thomas Oscar Anderson, of Red Oak, on a Felony charge of Stalking. Anderson was taken into custody at around 4:25-p.m. in the 400 block of east Maple Street. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $5,000 bond.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Albert Owens scored 21 points, Austin Ruder added 17, Javan White contributed 14 points with 12 rebounds and Oral Roberts is assured a top six finish in the Summit League with an 83-75 win at Omaha. Oral Roberts outrebounded Omaha 38-29, which was a factor in the Golden Eagles owning the paint, 46-36, and outscoring Omaha 16-7 on second-chance points. Daniel Norl pulled Omaha to within 59-58 with 7:16 remaining but Sam Kearns answered with a 3 to spark a 14-2 run and put the game away.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Jordan Frericks finished one assist shy of a triple-double, settling for her 28th career double-double on her Senior Night, and No. 11 Missouri defeated Vanderbilt 83-68. Frericks had 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 12 rebounds for the Tigers (23-5, 11-4 Southeastern Conference), who have won six straight.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A discrimination lawsuit filed by a former assistant against Drake women’s basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk has been dismissed. Courtney Graham filed the suit in December 2016, claiming Baranczyk forced her to resign in 2015 after learning she was gay. Graham alleged Baranczyk slowly decreased her duties as assistant head coach six months after she brought her girlfriend and now wife to a home game in November 2014. The case was dismissed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

UNDATED (AP) — Kansas plays at Texas Tech on Saturday in a matchup that could well decide who wins the league. Kansas can clinch a share of its 14th straight conference crown with a victory. The sixth-ranked Red Raiders won decisively in Lawrence earlier this season.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Sixty times last season as Washington’s pitching coach, Mike Maddux enjoyed a front row-seat for two of the best pitchers in baseball, Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. Now, in his first spring as the St. Louis pitching coach, Maddux sees a young pitcher ready to join upper echelon on starters. It’s his job to get Carlos Martinez there.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Nobody saw this coming, not even the Kansas City Royals. Whit Merrifield has gone from an afterthought to the American League stolen base champion. He has gone from more than 2,500 at-bats in the minors to the Kansas City starting second baseman. He began last year with Triple-A Omaha, his eighth straight season to open in the minors. He finished it hitting .288 with 19 home runs, 32 doubles, 78 RBIs and a league-leading 34 stolen bases.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa congressman has said in a sworn statement that a company he failed to disclose wasn’t “doing business” in 2016, despite evidence to the contrary. In an amended disclosure, Rep. Rod Blum lists himself as the majority shareholder and director of Tin Moon Corp. The Associated Press reported a day earlier that Blum violated House ethics rules by failing to list his ties to Tin Moon in his form submitted last August.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa lawmakers’ concerns about the state’s privatized Medicaid program amid reports of problems haven’t translated into much legislation so far. Just a handful of bills that would make selective changes to the health care program for the poor and disabled advanced beyond a legislative deadline last week. The proposals don’t address key issues surrounding reports of reduced services and delayed reimbursements to health care providers.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa doctor has been ordered to pay a $5,000 penalty and has been placed on three years’ probation in an agreement with the Iowa Board of Medicine to settle sexual misconduct charges filed against him. The Sioux City Journal reports that Jeffrey Zoelle entered the agreement Feb. 15. The board ordered Zoelle to complete a board-approved sexual misconduct/sexual harassment evaluation, among other things.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Republican-led Iowa Senate panel has given preliminary approval to a bill that would make sweeping changes to the state’s tax system. Republicans in a five-member Senate subcommittee agreed Thursday morning to sign off on the legislation, which GOP lawmakers say would cut more than $1 billion annually in taxes. A tax writing committee is expected to approve the bill in the afternoon. A key Senate Republican says the bill could have a full vote in the chamber next week.

Nebraska troopers find stolen gun, marijuana in traffic stop

WOOD RIVER, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska State Patrol says troopers have recovered a stolen gun and seized several pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near Wood River in central Nebraska. The patrol says the stop Wednesday afternoon also led to the arrest of four people from Des Moines, Iowa.

The patrol says the car was stopped on suspicion of failing to stop at a stop sign before turning onto a rural highway, then entering I-80. The trooper reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car during the stop and searched it. The patrol says four pounds of marijuana and the gun were found during the search. The patrol says the gun had been reported stolen from Des Moines.

Discrimination suit dismissed vs Drake coach Baranczyk

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A discrimination lawsuit filed by a former assistant against Drake women’s basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk has been dismissed. Courtney Graham filed the suit in December 2016, claiming that Baranczyk forced her to resign in 2015 after learning she was gay. Graham alleged Baranczyk slowly decreased her duties as assistant head coach six months after she brought her girlfriend and now wife to a home game in November 2014.

The case was dismissed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court. Graham filed a charge of discrimination with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. But Baranczyk and Drake successfully argued Graham failed to do so in a timely manner, according to the court decision.

Drake says in a statement it is pleased the case was dismissed on a summary judgment. The school says the claims were untrue and it is “committed to a culture of respect and diversity.”

Graham, who played at Mississippi State, joined the Drake coaching staff in 2012.

WILLIAM HUPP, 67, of Panora died Wednesday, February 21st at Pearl Valley Rehab and Healthcare in Perry. A Visitation for WILLIAM HUPP will be held Sunday, February 25th from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Twigg Funeral Home in Panora.

Burial of his cremains will be at a later date.
