Federal funds to help nine Iowa cities with sewer and water system projects

Nine Iowa cities are splitting more than three-MILLION dollars in federal funding to help finance updates to city sewers and water-related systems. Clinton is getting 600-thousand dollars for its project. Hamburg and Central City are each getting half a million dollars. Portsmouth is planning to dig a new well and install new water mains and is receiving 195-thousand dollars in federal funds for the project. Three-hundred thousand dollar grants are going to Armstrong, Scranton and Shelby.

The communities of Lehigh and Smithland will each receive 242-thousand dollars.

MARY ANN WULF, 99, of Exira, died Thursday, March 8th, at the Exira Care Center. Funeral services for MARY ANN WULF will be held 2-p.m. Monday, March 12th, at the Kessler Funeral Home, in Exira.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 1-p.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Exira Cemetery.

Her son – Rick Wulf, of San Antonio, TX.

Her daughter – Mary Pat (Don) Greving, of Exira.

Her sister – Betty Drees, of Exira.

WILLIAM “BILL” WORTH, 73, of Lewis, died Friday, March 9th, at home. His wife, 76-year old PEGGY WORTH, died Saturday, March 10th, at Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines. Public Graveside services for BILL and PEGGY WORTH will be held10:30-a.m. Tuesday, March 13th, at the Oakwood Cemetery, in Lewis. Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-until 8-p.m. Monday, March 12th.

Memorials may be directed to the Hitchcock House near Lewis, or St. Jude;s Hospital.

JOHN HENRY OEHLERTZ, 88, of Avoca, died Thursday, March 8th, at Avoca Specialty Care. Funeral services for JOHN OEHLERTZ will be held 10:30-a.m. Tue., March 13th, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.

His family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday, March 12th, from 5-until 7-p.m.

Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.

Lenox man arrested on drug charges in Adams County

A traffic stop Friday night on Highway 25 in Adams County, resulted in the arrest on drug charges, of Carlos Miranda Gutierrez, of Lenox. He was taken into custody at around 10:30-p.m., for Possession of a Controlled Substance/1st offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, OWI/1st offense, and Driving Under Suspension.

Pott. County man arrested on warrants in Montgomery County

Sheriff’s officials in Montgomery County report a Pottawattamie County man was arrested Friday evening on warrants out of Council Bluffs. 29-year old Zachary Clay Younts, of Council Bluffs, was arrested at around 5:50-p.m. on valid arrest warrants for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Younts was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1,300 cash bond. Red Oak Police assisted with the arrest.
