Members of the Atlantic School District’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday evening, in the High School Media Center. Their session begins at 5:30, and includes accepting the resignation of Danna Saeugling from the High School Student Council. The Board will also discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation process. Action items on their agenda include a contract for Driver’s Ed services, the Middle School Gym Bleacher replacement, and action on the 2018-19 Master Contract with the Atlantic Education Association.

During their meeting April 11th, the Board came under fire from several teachers and their families, who were under the assumption there would be a would be a zero percent increase in their pay raise and supplemental pay, in light of declining enrollment and questions over State Supplemental Support. The following week, a complaint was filed by the School District against the Atlantic Education Association, with regard to an alleged Collective Bargaining violation under the Iowa Code.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors say a West Des Moines man has been sent to prison for bank embezzlement. Brian Madison, of West Des Moines, was sentenced Friday to 18 months and ordered to pay $259,000 in restitution. He also must serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison. Prosecutors say Madison moved cash from his teller drawer at TruBank into an unmonitored teller drawer and modified cash count sheets so officials conducting the counts wouldn’t have known to look for the money.

The Audubon Police Department reports 42-year old Jamie Renea Clausen, of Audubon, was arrested Monday. Clausen was charged with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree, and Disorderly Conduct.  Clausen was transported to the Audubon County Jail and held to appear before a magistrate. Also on Monday, 32-year old Seth Alexander Olesen, of Audubon, was charged with Owning a Vicious Dog and Dog at Large.  Olesen was cited and released on promise to appear.

And, on Saturday, 31-year old Randy Travis Kurth, of Audubon ,was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Emmet County, for Failure to Appear.  Kurth was transported to the Audubon County Jail where he posted bond and was released.

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Officials have released the name of a 24-year-old north-central Iowa man who was killed in a weekend avalanche while snowmobiling in northwestern Wyoming. Teton County officials say Taylor Bruggeman of Saint Ansgar, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon near Togwotee Pass in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports Bruggeman was snowmobiling with two friends at the time.
Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Carr says Bruggeman’s riding partners saw him get buried and could see part of his snowmobile, but couldn’t find him. One of the friends stayed to dig while the other one rode about 30 minutes to where he could get cell service. He called for help shortly after 4 p.m.

BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man killed by a train in eastern Iowa. Belle Plaine police identified him as 42-year-old Justin Wisner, who lived in Belle Plaine.
The incident on the Union Pacific tracks was reported in Belle Plaine early Monday morning.
