The 1-2 CAM Cougars basketball team have had a slow start to the year, losing their first two games of the year to Coon Rapids-Bayard 56-48 and Woodbine 69-51. Now, the Cougars are coming off a 65-54 win against West Harrison last Friday. Where Head Coach Ian Hunt enjoyed the high amount of ball movement and scoring production from his squad.

Four CAM players reached double digits in scoring with the win against the Hawkeyes. Ryan Bower had 18 points, Chase Spieker had 12, Collin Bower 15, and Chase Jahde with 16.

The leading scorer for the Cougars is Jahde who has gathered 46 points through three games and averaging just over 15 per game. Coach Hunt has been impressed with the various ways that Jahde has been able to score, not limiting himself to just one style of play.

Even with Jahde being the leading scorer on the team, the Cougars do a nice job of sharing scoring opportunities and playing selfless basketball. Everybody in the starting lineup has the opportunity to score. Chase Spieker has 26 points and Colin Bower has totaled 35.

The mentality of consistently passing and waiting for open looks has been a focus for Coach Hunt beginning in the offseason. He believes it is one of the reasons why CAM plays such balanced basketball.

The Cougars have two games this week. One Tuesday night at Boyer Valley and the other at home on Friday against Paton-Churdan. Coach Hunt hopes that his team can jump out to an early lead and control the tempo in both games.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa football student-athletes — junior Cooper DeJean and seniors Jay Higgins and Tory Taylor — have been voted first-team All-America by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The announcement was made on Monday by the FWAA.

• Iowa is the only school in the country to have three first team All-Americans by FWAA in 2023.
• The Hawkeyes have had a FWAA All-American (first or second team) 11 straight seasons, dating back to 2013.
• Iowa has had eight FWAA All-Americans the last three seasons, second only to Georgia (9).
• The Hawkeyes have had a special teams All-American three of the last five seasons.
• Iowa has had multiple FWAA All-Americans each of the last five seasons (2019-23).

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (5-4, 0-0 Big 12) took down North Dakota State (4-6, 0-0 Summit) Sunday evening by a 30-point margin of 89-59. Iowa State had six in double figures for the first time in seven years as ISU went on its way to the victory.

The Cyclones had the first game since December 4, 2016 vs. New Orleans to have six with 10-plus points. ISU used a 10-0 run in the first quarter as the Cyclones pulled away from the Bison, shooting at 55.9 percent compared to NDSU’s 30.8 percent through the night.

Addy Brown led the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Hannah Belanger (15), Audi Crooks (13), Nyamer Diew (12), Isnelle Natabou (11) and Jalynn Bristow (11) were the other Cyclones in double figures. Brown came two assists shy of a triple-double.

How it Happened

The Cyclones took a 5-4 lead as Arianna Jackson sent in the 3 as the shot clock expired two minutes into the contest. Diew extended ISU’s streak to three straight made field goals with a 3-pointer of her own to make it 10-6. Diew wasn’t done there, sinking another from beyond the arc with six minutes on the clock. Crooks kept the run going, extending it to 10 straight to put ISU up 17-6. At the end of one, the Cyclones held the advantage of 21-16.

NDSU opened the second coming back within one of the Cyclones’ lead at 21-20, but Belanger answered with two straight shots from deep to go back up by seven (29-22). Belanger remained hot, entering double figures with a jumper at 4:47, extending the advantage to 11 as NDSU called a timeout. Iowa State would end the first half on a 9-0 run to lead 42-27.

Belanger had her third 3-pointer in the midst of a run of eight, bringing ISU ahead by 20 (50-30) with just over five to play in the third quarter. The 20-point lead held as Brown shot the jumper to take a 63-42 advantage to the final quarter.

The Cyclones continued to roll, with Brown grabbing the offensive rebound and sending in the layup to make it 74-54 with five minutes remaining. ISU would go on to seal the victory taking the final 13 points with a final of 89-59.

Iowa State called the early timeout after Iowa stretched a seven-point lead of 52-45. With 6:26 left, ISU came alive hitting a streak of eight to retake the lead at 55-54 as Iowa called a timeout. The Hawkeyes responded to retake the advantage, going up by six (62-56) with one minute to go. Iowa would hold on to the lead, taking the win by a final of 67-58.

Top Performances

Addy Brown totaled 16 for her seventh 10-plus point game, also leading the game and dialing in a career high with 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double. Brown shot at 7-of-11 from the field while coming two assists shy of a triple-double with eight assists, achieving the total without a turnover. It was Brown’s third straight double-double.
