DENISE HOLLOWAY, 55, of Harlan died Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  A Celebration of Life for DENISE HOLLOWAY will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 3-until 8-p.m., at the Irwin Community Building.  Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan is assisting the family.

Husband:  Kenny Holloway, of Harlan.

Daughter:  Emily Holloway, of Harlan.

Mother:  Charlotte Boeck, of Lanesboro.

Sisters:  Carissa (Pete) Rosonke, of Wake Forest, NC, and Linette (Jason) DeSart, of Lanesboro.

Her in-laws, other family members and many friends.

PATRICIA GAER, 84, of Harlan died December 16, 2023 at her home.  A Memorial Service for PATRICIA GAER will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 10:00 am at Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Glenwood dentist found guilty of Assault

(Glenwood, Iowa) – The Mills County Attorney’s Office reports a Glenwood dentist, 65-year-old Calvin Adolph Weber, was found guilty on December 15th of Assault – Contact Insulting or Offensive. Weber appeared for a Non-Jury Trial and was found guilty of assaulting a female patient by stating she was “sexy,” and by unwanted physical contact.

He was sentenced to pay the maximum fine of $855 and a No Contact Order was issued.

S.W. Iowa man found guilty of enticing a minor

(Glenwood, Iowa) – Offcials with the Mills County Attorney’s Office report a man from Sidney, 34-year-old Joseph Steven Tyler Harris, was found guilty in October of Enticing a Minor under 16 for a Sexual Purpose, in Mills County.

Harris appeared at his sentencing in Mills County District Court on December 14th. He was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

Mills County Attorney, DeShawne L. Bird-Sell, said she would like to thank the Mills County Sheriff’s Office for their help and their dedication to the safety of the residents of Mills County.

Injury accident in Guthrie County, Dec. 12th

(Guthrie Center, Iowa) – The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office today (Wednesday), released information about a single-vehicle accident that occurred Dec. 12th, at around 7:45-p.m. Authorities say a 2023 GMC Sierra pickup driven by 34-year-old Spencer Lee Irwin, of Guthrie Center, was traveling north on Maple Avenue. The vehicle went out of control while turning right onto 245th Street. The pickup entered the north ditch and rolled onto its passenger side.

Irwin suffered suspected/non-capacitating injuries, and was transported to the Guthrie County Hospital by a Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy. The pickup sustained $15,000 damage.

No citations were issued.

No. 4 Iowa women host Loyola Of Chicago on Thursday

The fourth ranked Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team closes out the non-conference schedule at home on Thursday against Loyola of Chicago. The Hawkeyes enter the game with a record of 11-1.
That’s junior guard Sydney Affolter (uh-Fall-ter). Junior center Sharon Goodman says there are still areas that need improvement.
Goodman says with two new starts in the lineup it is taking a while for the offense to jell.

Iowa’s Jay Higgins weighing his options

Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins hopes to make a decision on his future prior to the New Years Day Citrus Bowl against Tennessee. Higgins is second in the country in tackles and earned All-American honors for the Hawkeyes. He could return for another season.

Higgins says he is leaning on the advice of linebackers coach Seth Wallace.

Higgins says he used finals week to clear his mind.

Northern Iowa men visit Northern Illinois Thursday night

Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson says defense remains a concern as the Panthers get ready to visit Northern Illinois on Thursday night. The Panthers are 5-7 after a 100-82 win over Alcorn State.

Jacobson believes the Panthers have the ability to become a good defensive team.

Jacobson says it is a mind set to get better as opposed to technique.

Iowa State men host Eastern Illinois Thursday night

The Iowa State men play their final game before the Christmas break on Thursday night when they host Eastern Illinois. The Cyclones are 9-2 while Eastern enters with a record of 6-6.

That’s Cyclone coach T.J. Otzelberger who says Eastern Illinois does a good job of limiting easy baskets.

DARYL LYNN DORSHEIMER, 71, of Atlantic [formerly of Lewis], died Monday, December 18, 2023. Funeral services for DARYL DORSHEIMER will be held 11-a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at the First Church of Christ, in Atlantic. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the First Church of Christ from 6-until 8-p.m.

Lunch will immediately follow the funeral at the church.

Interment will be in Whipple Cemetery at 2-p.m. Friday (12/29).

DARYL DORSHEIMER is survived by:

His brother – Dennis (Nancy) Dorsheimer, of Ankeny.

His sister – Janis (Jeff) Kunze, of Farragut, TN.

Daryl also considered Ann Zaiger like a daughter, and she considered him as a second dad!

Other relatives and friends.
