Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers reports a man from Clarke County was arrested Friday for felony Criminal Mischief/2nd degree, following an incident at Bank Iowa. Officers responded to investigate a complaint of a large plate glass window being broken at the bank, located at the northeast corner of 15th & Main. Upon arrival officers located 25-year old George William Douglas, of Osceola, walking in the 200 block of East Main Street, with blood on his hands and arms. Douglas appeared to be incoherent and in distress.

He was transported to Clarinda Regional Health Center for treatment of his injuries and was admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation. Douglas was released from the hospital Saturday morning and taken into custody by officers on the felony offense that resulted in approximately $2,000 property damage to the Bank Iowa building. Douglas was being held in the Page County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Creston Police conducted three separate arrests over the weekend, and took three vehicle break-in reports. Late Sunday night, Sebastian Sweat, of Blockton, was arrested in Creston for Public Intoxication. He was being held in the Union County Jail on a $300 bond. 29-year old Maria Rodriguez (Muffley), of Creston, was arrested late Saturday night, for Disorderly Conduct and Driving While Suspended. She was later released on a $300 bond. And, 29-year old Steven Behlers, of Creston, was arrested Saturday evening, for Possession of a Controlled Substance/2nd offense. His bond was set at $2,000.

Three vehicle break-ins were reported Saturday. One incident happened sometime between 8-p.m. Friday and 8-a.m. Saturday, in the 300 block of Livingston. The vehicles’ title was reported to have been stolen. Sometime from 10-p.m. Friday and 6-a.m. Saturday, a vehicle in Creston was broken into parked in the 300 block of S. Bureau Street. An envelope with cash was taken. The loss was estimated at $100. And sometime between 9:30-p.m, Saturday and 11-a.m. Sunday, a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Myrtle Street, in Creston, was broken into, and loose change was stolen. The loss was estimated at five-dollars.

Police in Creston report an accident Saturday afternoon resulted in a Montgomery County man being transported to the hospital. Authorities say 39-year old Bradley Wayne Ford, of Red Oak, was in Creston with his family, for a youth baseball tournament. The family was trying to locate the ballfield but were unable to find it. Ford’s 2010 F-150 pickup was traveling north on S. Oak Street, and stopped at the intersection of S. Oak and W. Fremont Streets, before he began to slowly pull away from the stop sign. Ford was conversing with his wife, when their pickup was struck by a 2005 Chevy pickup that was traveling east on Fremont Street. The driver of the Chevy was identified as 42-year old Troy Dean Hoepker, of Cromwell.

Bradley Ford suffered suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries, and was transported to the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, by EMS. Hoepker complained of pain, but was not taken to the hospital. Damage from the collision amounted to $15,000. No citations were issued.

A man from Pottawattamie County was arrested a little after 2-a.m. today (Monday), after Omaha Police pursued a stolen 1997 Honda Civic bearing Nebraska license plates VUJ410 to the state line on I-480. Council Bluffs Police got behind the vehicle at S35th and 9th Ave. Officers initiated a pursuit on the vehicle after it failed to stop. The pursuit was low speed reaching about 40 mph through the city. Officers successfully deployed stop sticks deflating the vehicle’s tires.

The vehicle crashed into the median at West Broadway and 36th Street where the driver was taken into custody with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol. The driver was identified as 23 year old John Lindeman Jr of Council Bluffs. He was arrested on several charges including Theft 2nd degree and Eluding.

MONDAMIN, Iowa (AP) — Chemicals leaking from a semitrailer forced authorities to close a portion of Interstate 29 in western Iowa. The Iowa Public Safety Department says a motorist noticed the leak and flagged down the semi around 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Harrison County. The leaking liquids were determined to be hazardous, so northbound and southbound lanes were closed and traffic diverted around the closed area. Hazmat teams were called in. The liquids were later identified as hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals.

A dispatcher says the lanes were reopened around 11 p.m.

Sheriff’s officials in Taylor County report a man was arrested Sunday on numerous charges. 31-year old Eduardo Cantu-Diaz, of Lenox, was arrested in the 300 block of North Pine Street in Lenox. He was charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, Disorderly Conduct, and Interference with Official Acts and is being held at the Taylor County Jail pending an appearance with the magistrate. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Taylor County EMS and Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
