BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A driver has been given five years in prison for the death of a man killed in a collision south of Burlington in southeast Iowa. Des Moines County District Court records say 31-year-old Jason Twitchell was sentenced Tuesday. He’d pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors dropped a charge of vehicular homicide after learning the Iowa State Patrol didn’t request that hospital staffers preserve blood and alcohol samples taken from him after the Nov. 9, 2016, collision.

Authorities say Twitchell was injured when the truck he was driving collided with a vehicle being driven by 77-year-old Raymond Manning Jr., of Burlington. Manning died at the scene.

(Radio Iowa) — He’s anything but Itty Bitty, but that’s his name, and he’s the winner of the 2018 Iowa State Fair’s Big Boar Contest. The ironically-named big pig weighed in at 1,163 pounds, just two more than runner-up Yo Yo. Itty Bitty is owned by the West Delaware High School FFA chapter and many of the 44 members of the group were at the fair’s Swine Barn Thursday for the annual contest. They say their four-year-old pig’s favorite food is Iowa corn and he’ll often eat 16 pounds of it in a day.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes finished 5 of 7 for 33 yards on two drives in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 17-10 loss to the Houston Texans in the preseason opener for both teams. Houston’s Deshaun Watson, who’s coming back from a torn ACL, was used sparingly. He threw only one pass _ a 4-yard completion to wide receiver Bruce Ellington _ during a five-play drive to midfield that featured four handoffs to running back Lamar Miller.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Zach Johnson slipped away to St. Louis last week to play a quick round at Bellerive in advance of the PGA Championship. Phil Mickelson did, too. But they were the only ones who took the time, and at least for Johnson, it appears to have been worthwhile. He felt rested and ready, and the result was a first-round 66 to climb into contention.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tiger Woods was 3-over par after the first two holes at the PGA Championship. He changed shirts before the third hole and his game got better. Woods scratched back to shoot even-par 70 and end his day only five shots behind the morning’s leader, Rickie Fowler

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Had Rickie Fowler had his way, he would’ve worn the blue shirt he’d laid out for Thursday’s opening round of the PGA Championship. Instead, he wore bright yellow _ the color his buddy Jarrod Lyle liked to wear when he played. The Aussie golfer died Wednesday night after a long bout with leukemia. Tributes to him were everywhere at Bellerive, mainly in the form of yellow ribbons that many players pinned to their hats.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln police have arrested a 17-year-old girl who had a pair of shoes believed to have been stolen from the unoccupied home of Nebraska football coach Scott Frost. Police say investigators are searching for others who might have been involved. Several pairs of athletic shoes, football helmets and artwork are still missing.

BROOKLYN, Iowa (AP) — The reward fund offered for the safe return of a missing University of Iowa student has grown to nearly $316,000. A spokesman for Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa said Thursday the organization has passed on more than 830 tips to authorities investigating the disappearance of Mollie Tibbetts.

Tibbetts’ father has suggested she might have been abducted from her boyfriend Dalton Jack’s home in Brooklyn, Iowa. The 20-year-old Tibbetts was seen jogging July 18 and her family reported her missing the next day.

Jack’s brother, Blake, told Fox News there were no signs of struggle at the home, adding that Tibbetts is “small, but she would have done something” if she had been attacked.

Dalton Jack says he received a Snapchat message from Tibbetts July 18, after she would have returned from her run. Authorities haven’t found her Fitbit or cellphone.
