A traffic stop early this (Sunday) morning in Red Oak has resulted in an arrest. Officials say 58-year old William Wayne Elliott, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 1:25-a.m. near the intersection of West Oak and Broadway Streets in Red Oak. Elliott was charged with Driving While Barred, speeding and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. He was transported to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center, where he was being held on $2,000 bond.

Two men wanted for escape from law enforcement were recaptured Friday afternoon in Shenandoah, by local and federal officials. In a press release, authorities said Shenandoah Police were notified by agents with the U-S Marshall’s Service at around 3-p.m., Friday, that 19-year old Robert Michael Guzman, who was wanted for escape from Council Bluffs, was staying at a residence in Shenandoah.

Authorities located Guzman at a resident in the 300 block of North Sycamore Street. At the same home, they also found 23-year-old Colton Edward Benson-Blaine, an escapee from a work release program. Officers arrested the men without incident at 5:30 p.m, and took them to the Page County Jail.

Agents of the U.S. Marshall Service and deputies of the Page County Sheriff’s Office assisted Shenandoah Police at the scene.

Two people escaped serious injury during a rollover accident Saturday evening, in Cass County. The accident involving a Dodge Ram pickup was reported just before 8-p.m.   It occurred just south of 690th & Yankton Road, or near Cass/Adams County line.  According to dispatch reports, the driver of the pickup, 34-year old Michael Stein, of Lenox, and his unidentified passenger, were out of the vehicle when deputies arrived, and appeared to have been uninjured.

The accident remained under investigation late Saturday evening. No other details are currently available.

The Creston Police Department reports a two vehicle accident occurred on Friday, Oct. 17th at 11:40am at the corner of West Page and South Division Streets in Creston.  The accident resulted in both 60-year-old Holly Ferber and 42-year-old Staci Wilker being transported to the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston by ambulance with unknown possible injuries.

After investigation officers believe the 2014 Chevy Equinox driven by Holly Ferber of Corning was traveling westbound on Page Street and made a tight left hand turn onto Division Street. The tight turn resulted in Ferber getting into the lane of oncoming traffic and struck the front end of a 2009 Pontiac Vibe driven by Staci Wilker of Creston.  Wilker was travelling northbound on Division Street and attempting to turn onto Page Street when struck.

Both vehicles were totaled in the wreck and both drivers sustained possible injuries. No further details are known at this time.

Audubon County Sheriff’s officials say two Audubon teens face various charges associated with an incident at the Audubon High School. Authorities say school officials notified them of a flash drive that had been turned over to them which included videos and pictures taken from inside the girls locker room. The pictures dated back to November of 2013. Through an investigation the victims have been identified and notified of the incident.

15 year old Micheal Jim Rudolph has been charged with third degree harassment, invasion of privacy (a serious misdemeanor), and extortion (a class D felony). Rudolph was taken into custody on Thursday and is currently being held in juvenile detention. 16 year old Jordan Rene Meaike of Audubon has also been charged with invasion of privacy (a serious misdemeanor) for her involvement in taking the videos and pictures in the locker room. She was then released to her parents. The Incident remains under investigation.

The Iowa Department of Transportation and the Nebraska Department of Roads will open the new bridge carrying U.S. 34 over the Missouri River, linking Iowa and Nebraska, after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Creston construction office.

Completion of the $61 million dollar bridge project not only allows for ease of travel between Iowa and Nebraska for motorists, but it supports future economic development between the states…

VILLISCA – Ammonia that got released from an agricultural cooperative in Villisca earlier this week is contained and is being recovered. The recovered solution of water and ammonia will be land applied to crop fields.

An unknown amount of anhydrous ammonia was released into a city storm sewer intake and then flowed into a small unnamed tributary of the West Nodaway River. The ammonia is believed to have originated at the United Farmers Mercantile Co-op in Villisca and to have occurred sometime between 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. It was reported to the DNR by a citizen.

Under instruction from the DNR, the coop constructed a dam on the tributary and is pumping it to be land applied. By Friday afternoon, approximately 44,000 gallons of the solution had been recovered. The coop is also flushing the tributary from the storm sewer to remove the contamination.

Although the incident is still under investigation by the DNR, it appears that soil at the cooperative had been contaminated with anhydrous ammonia and came in contact with water when a water line broke. Anhydrous ammonia is in vapor form until it comes in contact with water and becomes soluble. When the water line was being repaired, the ammonia-mixed water got pumped to a city storm sewer that eventually empties into the unnamed tributary of the West Nodaway River.

DNR field office staff is continuing to monitor the clean up.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — One of two health insurers providing coverage to low-income Iowa residents through a state program is withdrawing its services. The Iowa Department of Human Services announced Friday that CoOportunity Health will soon no longer be an insurance option for those enrolled the Iowa Health and Wellness Program, the modified Medicaid expansion offered in the state as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

Under the federally funded program, some people are enrolled in a state-run health plan and others get premiums covered for private insurance. About 112,000 people are in the program, with roughly 26,000 on private insurance. CoOpportunity covered 9,700 people. State officials say they will get similar benefits from a different carrier. CoOpportunity spokeswoman Leigh McGivern says it was too costly for the insurer to continue coverage.
