GLENN OHMS, 86, of Atlantic, died Sunday, Sept. 16th, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. Funeral services for GLENN OHMS will be held 10:30-a.m. Saturday, September 22nd, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

An open visitation will take place at the funeral home from 8-a.m. until 5:30-p.m. Friday, Sept. 21st.; Visitation with family will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, on Saturday, one-hour prior to the service (or, beginning at 9:30-a.m.); Online condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with military honors by the Atlantic Color Guard.

Memorials may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Heritage House.

GLENN OHMS is survived by:

His wife: Joan.

His daughters: Janelle (John) Rohrbaugh of Fort Collins, CO. Brenda (Ron) Ruenholl of Blair, NE.

His brothers – Dean, and Max.

His sisters – Marie, and Donna “Nicky”

4 Grandchildren, and his brother- and sisters-in law.

ARLISS MAE BUTTLER, 85, of Guthrie Center, died Sept. 12th, at the Guthrie County Hospital. Memorial services for ARLISS MAE BUTTLER will be held 10-a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29th, at the 1st Christian Church in Guthrie Center. Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center has the arrangements.

Inurnment at the Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center, will take place immediately following the memorial services.

ARLISS MAE BUTTLER is survived by:

Her husband – Kenneth “June” Buttler.

Her son – Rick (Martha) Buttler, of Guthrie Center.

Her daughter – Lela (Dean) Ford, of Knoxville, TN.

5 Grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Police fatally shoot robbery suspect in Des Moines suburb

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa authorities are investigating a fatal police shooting in the Des Moines suburb of Ankeny. The Des Moines Register reports Ankeny Police Lt. Brian Kroska says an officer fatally shot a man suspected of robbing a Hy-Vee gas station Saturday after he pointed a handgun at the officer.

Kroska says officers responded to the robbery call around 4:30 Saturday afternoon and found the suspect a couple blocks away near another gas station. That’s when the suspect pointed the gun.

Police didn’t immediately release the identities of either the suspect or the officer.
The officer will remain on paid leave while the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reviews the shooting.

Red Oak man arrested on Theft warrant Saturday afternoon

Police in Red Oak say a man was arrested at around 4-p.m. Saturday, on a Theft charge. 31-year old Benjamin William Hrabik, of Red Oak, was taken into custody on a warrant for Theft in the 5th Degree. He was arrested in the 300 block of E. Oak Street and held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

AARON WIDROWICZ, 66, of Atlantic, died Friday, Sept. 14th, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Visitation for AARON WIDROWICZ, with the family present, is on Monday, Sept. 17th, from 4-until 7-p.m., at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Avoca.

Private graveside services will be held 11-a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18th, at the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.

His son – Noah (Allison) Widrowcz, of Atlantic.

His brother – Tyson Matthew Widrowicz, of Sioux City.

Possible gunshots heard in Atlantic Sunday morning

Police in Atlantic were unable to track down the source of two loud, possible gunshots early Sunday morning. The noise echoed through the east side of town at 5:02-a.m. At least three callers to authorities reported hearing what sounded like gunshots, including KJAN News Director Ric Hanson. IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Three plus three equals three. That’s math that works for the Iowa football team. With a dominant 38-14 win against Northern Iowa on Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium, that makes three games, three impressive defensive efforts and three emphatic wins to send the Hawkeyes (3-0) into Big Ten Conference play with an undefeated record for the second straight year. Iowa hosts No. 6 Wisconsin next Saturday. Wisconsin should drop a bit in the rankings, but it’ll still be an electric atmosphere for a night game in Kinnick.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Kyler Murray threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns and fifth-ranked Oklahoma held off Iowa State 37-27 in the Big 12 opener for both teams. Marquise Brown had 191 yards receiving and a TD for the Sooners, who extended the nation’s longest road winning streak to 17 games while avenging a stunning home loss to the Cyclones a year ago.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — B.J. Smith scored on a 26-yard run midway through the fourth quarter and Will Sunderland made an interception in the final 3 minutes, giving Troy the cushion it needed to beat Nebraska 24-19 and denying new Cornhuskers coach Scott Frost his first win. The Huskers have lost their first two games for the first time since 1957 and have dropped six straight home games since beating Rutgers last September. Troy knocked off LSU last year and has beaten power-five opponents two straight years.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Yasiel Puig homered three times and had a career-high seven RBIs, giving him five homers in two games, and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed St. Louis 17- 4 to move into first place in the National League West. Puig hit a solo homer in the fourth off John Gant and three-run drives in the fifth against Mike Mayers and in the seventh versus Luke Weaver. Cody Bellinger hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Luke Weaver and had a career-high six RBIs.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Ian Kennedy pitched six innings to earn his first win since the first week of April, Alex Gordon drove in five runs and the Royals beat the Twins 10-3 on Saturday night. Alcides Escobar added three RBIs while finishing a homer shy of the cycle, and Cam Gallagher ended a 0-for-14 skid with a career-best four hits for Kansas City. The Twins will try to avoid a four-game sweep in the series finale today (Sunday).

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — A man previously arrested on suspicion of participating in a robbery that led to the stabbing death at a Council Bluffs homeless shelter has now been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Council Bluffs police say 20-year-old James Michael McCauley was served with a warrant for the upgraded charge on Thursday for the March death of 44-year-old Lee Johnson. McCauley was served at the Pottawattamie County Jail, where he was being held on the robbery charge.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A jury has convicted a Des Moines man of first-degree murder and burglary in the shooting death last year of his estranged wife. The Des Moines Register reports that 51-year-old Harold Dudley was found guilty Friday in the June 2017 death of 36-year-old Mary Dudley, of Des Moines. Prosecutors showed videos that captured Harold Dudley peering around a corner at his wife’s apartment holding a handgun before he kicked in her door and fired six times.

MONTEZUMA, Iowa (AP) — A man charged with killing Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts is set to be arraigned next week. The Des Moines Register reports that 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera will be arraigned Wednesday in Poweshiek County District Court in Montezuma. Rivera was arrested and charged with first-degree murder last month in the stabbing death of the 20-year-old Tibbetts, who vanished while out for a run in the east-central Iowa town of Brooklyn on July 18.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has disbarred a northeast Iowa attorney accused of looting a woman’s estate. The state’s Attorney Disciplinary Board charged attorney Todd Kowalke with violating the rules of professional conduct during his representation of the executors of the estate, and the Grievance Commission later recommended revocation of his Iowa law license. On Friday, the high court found that Kowalke converted client funds for his personal use, and revoked his license.
