(Radio Iowa) — Senator Chuck Grassley says he was notified last Friday that a Long Island, New York man had been arrested for making a threat against Grassley.

Grassley has been a member of congress since 1975.

Grassley cites the harassment fellow senators Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell got when they went out to eat in the D-C area with their wives.

Grassley says the New York man who was arrested a week ago for threatening Grassley’s life also made threats over the phone to Senator Susan Collins of Maine.

Shelby County Auditor Mark Maxwell has issued a correction to his statement released Thursday evening, with regard to the acceptance of absentee ballots by mail. In a statement released today (Friday), Maxwell said “After 5-p.m.  this Saturday October 27^th, no more absentee ballot requests CAN BE accepted by mail after that time.  YOU MAY STILL VOTE IN PERSON AT THE COURTHOUSE IN HARLAN UNTIL 5:00 pm November 5^th.   It was worded in a way earlier by my office that was indicating otherwise.”

You may still vote early at the Shelby County Courthouse up until  5 PM NOVEMBER 5TH.   Also Saturday is the preregistration deadline for this election.   Your wait in the voting line will be longer after Saturday October 27^th at 5:00 PM.  This is because of the extra paperwork required to register the same time as you vote.  Also, there is a School Bond issue election scheduled for December 11^th.  Iowa Western Community College and Harlan Community School District will both have propositions on the ballot in the Harlan Community School District voting precincts.

A man from Arkansas suffered minor injuries to his hand but refused medical treatment, following a rollover accident this morning, east of Atlantic. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office told KJAN News 22-year old Royce Edward Katzer, of Quitman, AR., was traveling northbound on 650th Street at around 6:41-a.m., when he swerved to avoid a deer on the road. His 2013 Honda Civic crossed the centerline of the road and went out of control before it rolled once into the west ditch, coming to rest on its wheels facing south. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000. Officials say Katzer was not wearing his seat belt. No citations were issued. Atlantic Fire and Rescue, Medivac, and Atlantic Police and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports four people were arrested on separate charges, recently. A traffic stop on Interstate 29 at around 1-a.m. today (Friday) by a Mills County Deputy, resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Thomas Edward Kirsch, of Omaha, on an active Pottawattamie County bench warrant. A traffic stop on a vehicle at around 3-a.m today (Friday), resulted in the arrest of 45-year old Christina Marie Kendrick, of Crescent. Kendrick was taken into custody on a warrant out of Nebraska for being a Fugitive from Justice. She was being held without bond in the Pott. County Jail.

At around 8-p.m. Thursday, 53-year old Donald Lee Graham, Jr., of Council Bluffs, was arrested on an active Pott. County warrant for Assault Causing Bodily Injury. His bond was set at $5,000, plus a $1,000 bond for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana – 1st offense.  And, at around 12:20-p.m. Thursday, 39-year old Michael Joseph Lambert, of Ralston, NE., was arrested after he crossed into Iowa while having a valid arrest warrant out of Buffalo County, Nebraska, for being a Fugitive from Justice.  Lambert was being held without bond on the warrant, and for Theft in the 1st degree as well as Providing False Information to Law Enforcement.

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A 28-year-old man has been accused of killing two brothers who lived in Fort Dodge. Police say Tanner King, of Fort Dodge, was arrested Thursday night. Webster County court records say he’s charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder. He’s accused of Monday’s fatal shooting of 37-year-old Marion and 34-year-old Eldominic Rhodes. A criminal complaint says the younger man’s body was found in an alley and his older brother’s body was found in a nearby apartment parking lot. Police say King fired a shot at another man but missed.
