The Atlantic girls finished 7th and the boys 15th at the State Cross Country meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge. Taylor McCreedy was a 6th place medal winner in the girls race.  Janette Schraft of Glenwood was the Champion.

Atlantic’s top finisher on the boys side was Evan Brummer in 38th. Quinton Orr of Humboldt was the champion.

In Class 1A girls Emma Lucas of Bedford took the title.  Peyton Pogge of Tri-Center was runner-up. Logan-Magnolia was the team champion with 66 points.

In 1A boys Josh Baudler of Nodaway Valley was the runner-up. Noah Nelsen of AC/GC came in 4th.

(Radio Iowa) — The weather could be a factor when 18th ranked Iowa visits 17th Penn State this (Saturday) afternoon, as rain is in the forecast for State College. The Hawkeyes relied on the run game on a windy day last week against Maryland and coach Kirk Ferentz may be forced to adjust his game plan again.

Iowa is 6-1 and will be out to snap a four game losing streak in the series.

Ferentz has been pleased with the way this Iowa team has progressed and that needs to continue against the Nittany Lions.

Ferentz says the challenge for the Iowa defense will be Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley’s ability to pass and run.

Homecoming is in Ames today (Saturday), as Iowa State hosts Texas Tech. The Red Raiders always feature an explosive offense and Cyclone coach Matt Campbell says this season is no different.

Campbell says Tech’s offense is much better up front.

Campbell says Tech is 5-2 because of an improved defense.

(AP) — Nebraska will play a Bethune-Cookman team that has lost its last five games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents by an average of 32 points and has come no closer than three touchdowns in any of them. The game was scheduled on short notice as a replacement for the canceled opener against Akron. The party line in Lincoln this week is that the Cornhuskers aren’t good enough to go through the motions against any opponent.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self faces a potentially bumpy few months as the FBI’s investigation of corruption in college basketball continues to unwind. Self and the school have not been accused of any wrongdoing, though their names have surfaced in testimony, and that alone could be enough to hurt them on the recruiting trail and in the court of public perception.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma bounced back from its loss to Texas with a rousing 52-27 win over TCU last week. The Sooners face Kansas State on Saturday and they can’t afford to slip if they want to reach the College Football Playoff again. Kansas State is building momentum, too. The Wildcats rolled past Oklahoma State 31-12 in their last game, and then had an off week to prepare for the Sooners.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — No. 12 Kentucky has star running back Benny Snell Jr. and a stellar defense to thank for its success this season. The Wildcats take their ground-and-pound attack on the road to face an explosive Missouri team.
