Atlantic Trojan Girls Soccer Season preview

The Atlantic Trojans girls soccer team is off a solid start. The Trojans have a lot of new faces on the roster this season and are coached by Jesse McCann.

Coach McCann Talked about what his experience has been with dealing with a lot of inexperienced players this season.

Coach McCann had the opportunity to work with the team over the offseason and he elaborated on what his team has been focusing on.

Coach McCann talked about Sophomore goal keeper Katrina Williams and the big shoes that she has to fill this year.

Coach McCann commented on what the Trojans fans can expect out of their team this season.

The Trojans girls are coming off a 3-0 non-conference loss to Perry on Monday April 8th. Their next match will be on Friday April 12th, in a Hawkeye 10 Conference regular season matchup as they will be at Creston. That match will get underway at 5:30 p.m.

Riverside Bulldogs Girls track Is Off To a Great Start

The Riverside Bulldogs track and field team is off to a great start to their season.

Riverside Coach Jared Hoffman said the team has been working hard and its been paying off.

Coach Hoffman talked about the individuals that have been doing well so far this year.

Coach Hoffman commented on where his squad sits healthwise.

Coach Hoffman elaborated on what he has his team do at every meet to help them stay healthy throughout the season.

The Bulldogs next track meet will be Tuesday April 9th at the Griswold Tigers Relays. That event will start at 4:30 p.m.

Miranda Climbs Into Top 15 in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Junior Paula Miranda fired a one-under par 70 during the second round of the Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club.

Miranda had two birdies and an eagle on the par five second hole during the second round, moving up 13 spots into the top 15 on the leaderboard. The Mexico native sits at three over par with a 145 (75-70) heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Sophomore Madison Dabagia and Riley Lewis both are tied for 39th. Dabagia, who had five birdies during the round, finished with a 75 on Monday, while Lewis carded a one-over par 73. Both have 150 totals.

Freshman Ximena Benites had the team’s second-best round of the day, carding two birdies en route to a one-over par 72. She is tied for 50th place with a 151.

As a team, Iowa shaved 16 shots off its score from round one to round two, finishing with a 290. The Hawkeyes are in 12th place out of 16 teams with a 596 (306-290).

Michigan and South Florida are tied atop the leaderboard with a 570 (299-271), while the Wolverines’ Monet Chun has the individual lead with a 135 (74-61).

Hawkeyes in 6th, Kent Tied for 8th

NAPLES, Fla. — The University of Iowa men’s golf team concluded round two of play at the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club on Monday. Freshman Noah Kent is tied for eighth after carding 73 (+1) to bring his tournament score to even par. Iowa is in sixth as a team at 15-over par (293/298 = 591). The Hawkeyes are just two shots back from No. 15 Georgia Tech and Miami University (589) and lead 22nd-ranked Georgia by one stroke.

Kent’s front nine was clean as he had eight pars and just one bogey. Kent then bogeyed hole 10 but was able to get his first birdie of the day on hole 17 to finish his round at 1-over par. Kent is five shots off the leader, Brett Podobinski from Miami University (OH).

Junior Ian Meyer finds himself tied for 12th at 2-over par. Meyer played his second round at 3-over par (75). Senior Mac McClear sits at 6-over par for the tournament after posting a second round 74 (+2). Sophomore Hogan Hansen is tied for 25th at 7-over par.

Florida leads the field at 7-under par. The Gators were the only team to shoot under par on Monday. Purdue is 11 shots back in second place followed by Wake Forest in third, 16 shots back.
