Iowa State’s T.J. Otzelberger on developing new scorers

Sports

June 28th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

Iowa State basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger says the Cyclones need to develop additional scorers this summer. With Izaiah Brockington going pro and Big 12 freshman of the year Tyrese Hunter transferring to Texas the Cyclones lost their top two scorers from last year’s team that made it to the Sweet-16.

Otzelberger says summer is a good time to begin to establish roles.

Holmes is a transfer from St. Bonaventure and Kalscheur averaged just over nine and a half points last season. Otzelberger expects more scoring from senior forward Jaz Kunc (koons), who shot better than 39 percent from three point range.

Otzelberger wants Kunc to be more aggressive on offense.

Final work to get underway on pedestrian bridge for Jack Trice Stadium in Ames

News, Sports

June 27th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa) – Work will begin tonight (Monday) on the final portion of a long-awaited bridge that will benefit thousands of fans on football game days in Ames. The East Gateway Bridge over University Boulevard allows fans to cross the roadway to Jack Trice Stadium from the parking areas east of the stadium. John Harvey with Iowa State University’s facilities management team, says fans from all around can use the bridge.

Harvey says they will close the roadway to traffic and install a steel truss over the roadway connecting two towers. They will then install the bridge deck. He says there are other panels that will go on the bridge as well and they plan to have it all done by the season opener.

The project costs ten-million-dollar dollars, and will also benefit motorists who won’t have to stop for pedestrians crossing the roadway.

Ragaini is trying to be a mentor for the younger receivers.

Clair Peterson set for final John Deere Classic as executive director

Sports

June 27th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

The week’s John Deere Classic will be the final one for Executive Director Clair Peterson, who is retiring at the end of the year. Peterson has led the PGA Tournament in the Quad Cities since 2002.

The Quad Cities remains the smallest market on the PGA Tour.

Peterson says John Deere becoming title sponsor in 1998 was a turning point for the tournament hitch that began in 1971 as the Quad Cities Open.

Peterson says he will finish the year as director and still have a role with the tournament.

The first round of the John Deere Classic is Thursday.
