DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa’s unemployment rate remained at 2.4% in April for the 10th month in a row. Iowa Workforce Development reported Friday the jobless rate held steady, where it has been since July 2018.
Iowa has the nation’s third-lowest rate, behind only Vermont and North Dakota, and tied with New Hampshire. The number of Iowa residents with jobs in April increased by 4,600 to 1.67 million. The number of unemployed residents dropped to 40,400.
Iowa’s figure compares to a national unemployment rate of 3.6% in April.
Atlantic Trojan golfers Matt Gearheart and Cyle Renaud were able to advance to the Class 3A Boys State Golf Tournament on Friday but the team came up just shy.
Gearheart was Medalist at the District Tournament at Atlantic Golf and Country Club with a 74 and Renaud finished 3rd with a 76. Atlantic came up 4 shots shy of the top two teams with a 323 total. Norwalk shot 314 to win it and Carroll finished 2nd with a 319. Winterset was 4th at 347 followed by North Polk with 357.
Atlantic’s other scores were: Braden Smith 76, Tate Den Beste 93, Drey Newell 85, Garrett McLaren 93.
Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste: “This was a day of delays. Had to wait close to 3 hours to tee off with lightning and thunder. Great to see Matt continue his great play. He qualifies as an individual again and this will be 4 state tournaments for him. Cyle also played well. He qualifies again as an individual and this will be his 3rd state meet. Braden had a good round but struggled to get pars on the back. Needed him to be a little lower. Tate had a rough start but had some good holes as well. Hopefully he will work on being consistent this summer. Drey continues to play at his pace. Had some putts that needed to go for him. Garrett had a better round than earlier this year. He needs to get out and play more. Disappointing that the team doesn’t go on but good to have two players move on.”
