The Treynor boys track team won the Missouri Valley Big Reds Relays on Thursday night. The Cardinals tallied 147 points to win, Missouri Valley was second with 102.

The Cardinals took the top spot in 6 events en route to the team title. Noah James won the High Jump. Ryan Konz won the 3200M for Treynor. The Cardinals also won the 4x100M, 4x200M, Sprint Medley, and Shuttle Hurdle Relays.

The Underwood boys and girls track teams took titles at the AHSTW Co-Ed Meet on Thursday night in Avoca.

The Underwood girls won 5 events and racked up 172 points to win. AHSTW had a strong night as well with 152 points. Audubon followed up in third with 125 points.

AHSTW picked up wins from Talia Welsh in the 100M and 200M. Ryann Portch won the 800M. Holly Hoepner won the 400M Hurdles. AHSTW also took the Sprint Medley and Distance Medley.

Audubon’s Hannah Thygesen won the 400M. Grace Slater won the 1500M for the Wheelers as well. Melissa Deist won the Shot Put.

Riverside’s Alexis Post won the 3000M. Riverside also won the 4x100M and 4x200M.

The Underwood boys won 7 events and finished with 156 points to just edge out Denison-Schleswig and their 153 point total. AHSTW came in third and Audubon was 4th.

Drake Partridge won the 100M, 200M, and Long Jump for AHSTW. The Vikings won the 4x200M as well.

Audubon’s Skyler Schultes won the 110M Hurdles. Audubon also won the 4x100M and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay.

The Atlantic girls track team took the title on Thursday night at the Koos Invitational at Harlan. The Trojans notched 132 points to beat out Harlan who finished ten points back.

The Trojans picked up the following event wins: Haley Rasmussen in the 200M and 400M. Taylor McCreedy won the 1500M and 3000M. The Trojans team of Pluma Pross, Karsyn Rush, Kennedy Goergen, and Haley Rasmussen won the 4x400M Relay. The combo of Taylor Hansen, Aleigh Bean, Alyssa Derby, and Taylor McCreedy won the Distance Medley.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Megan Gustafson of Iowa is The Associated Press women’s college basketball player of the year. She led the nation in scoring for the second consecutive year and is the first player from the school and the Big Ten to win the award.

The 6-foot-3 star received 15 votes Thursday from the 28-member national media panel that selects the weekly AP rankings. Balloting was done before the NCAA Tournament.

Sabrina Ionescu of Oregon received seven votes while Napheesa Collier of UConn three. Asia Durr of Louisville had two votes and Teaira McCowan of Mississippi State one.

Gustafson averaged 27.9 points and helped the Hawkeyes reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993. She became only the fourth Division I player to score more than 1,000 points in a season. She tied the NCAA record for double-doubles in a season with 33.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State sophomore Lindell Wigginton is declaring for the NBA draft for the second year in a row “with the full intent of staying in.” Wigginton, who withdrew from last year’s draft at the last minute after a spectacular freshman season, announced his plans Thursday on Twitter.

Wigginton’s numbers dipped a bit last season after a foot injury cost him 10 non-conference games. But Wigginton still averaged 13.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game off the bench while shooting 40 percent on 3-pointers.

He joins freshman Talen Horton-Tucker as Cyclones who have declared for the draft. Wigginton’s decision will likely push Tyrese Haliburton into the starting role at point guard — and it could also put Iowa State in the market for a graduate transfer backcourt player.
