Three people in one vehicle were injured during a chain-reaction collision late Friday evening, in Mills County. Authorities report a juvenile male in a 2009 Dodge suffered a head injury and was transported to the hospital by Malvern Rescue. Two other occupants of the same vehicle, suffered minor injuries, and were also transported to the hospital. Drivers and passengers in the remaining vehicles were assessed at the scene by Malvern and Glenwood Rescue Squads.

Officials say the accident happened while the Dodge, driven by 24-year old Kellin Chambers, of Council Bluffs, was stopped on Highway 34, waiting to turn left into a driveway. 21-year old Quentin Dumler, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet and reached to grab his phone charge. He didn’t realize Chambers’ vehicle, and one behind it driven by 33-year old Michelle Holmes, of Council Bluffs, were stopped on the road.

Dumler said he looked up and saw brake lights, but was unable to stop. His vehicle hit Holmes’ 1999 Buick, which then hit the Dodge. The initial collision caused Dumler’s vehicle to veer into the westbound lane of Highway 34, where it was struck by a 2018 Chevy driven by 31-year old Nicholas Edwards, of Kansas City, MO. Following the collision, Edwards’ vehicle went into the north ditch and rolled once before coming to rest on its wheels.

Dumler’s car went off the road and came to rest in the grass north of Highway 34. The other two vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of the road. The Sheriff’s report did not indicate if charges were filed or any citations were issued.

Eight people have been arrested in Mills County since the beginning of the month. Sheriff’s officials report the following were taken into custody:

• Today (Monday, 5/6): 44-year old Akil Ogbonna Williams, of Omaha, was arrested for Providing false ID, and on a warrant out of Pottawattamie County for Theft in the 1st degree. Total bond amounts to $20,300; 31-year old Christopher Brytant Thompson, of Omaha, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His bond was set at $300.
• On Sunday, 33-year old Donald Arthur Petersen, of Omaha, was arrested for OWI/1st offense. Bond $1,000.
• Saturday night, 20-year old Blaine Michael Clark, of Glenwood, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug paraphernalia. Bond $1,300. And, Saturday morning, 38-year old Ben Thomas Bovenzie, of Independence, MO., was arrested for being a Fugitive from Justice. No bond.
• At around 12:03-a.m. Friday, 47-year old Frances Ann Baughman, of Braddyville, was arrested in Mills County for OWI/1st offense. Bond $1,000.
• Last Thursday, 35-year old Zachary Aaron McCord, of Glenwood, was arrested for OWI/2nd offense and Failure to maintain control. Bond $2,000.
• On May 1st, 27-year old Clayton Morris Scott, Jr., of Council Bluffs, was arrested in Mills County on a warrant for Penal Offenses against Title Law and Other Violation or Chapter 321A (Motor Vehicle Liability). Bond set at $1,300.

Officials with the Atlantic Police Department said Monday, there were four recent arrests:

• 25-year old Dylan Russell, of Atlantic, was arrested Sunday, for Driving While Barred.
• 57-year old Alan Schuler, of Atlantic, was arrested last Thursday for OWI/1st offense.
• 52-year old Richard Lewis, of Anita, was arrested April 27th for Violating a No Contact Order.
• And on April 25th, 51-year old Treg Pedrett, of Atlantic, was arrested for OWI.

Each of those subjects were booked into the Cass County Jail. Only Alan Schuler remained in the jail as of Monday (5/6).

Police in Red Oak, Monday afternoon, arrested 26-year old Bradina Sky Gary, of Red Oak. The woman was taken into custody for unauthorized use of a credit card issued by the American Red Cross, in connection with an apartment fire on N. 6th Street. Authorities determined Gary did not reside in the apartment building, and allegedly used the funds fraudulently.

She was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $2,000 bond.

OXFORD, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa State Patrol has identified three children who died in a crash on Interstate 80 near Coralville after a truck hit a car trying to cross from westbound lanes to the eastbound freeway.

The state patrol says 11-year-old Oneimus Quaterman and two 12-year-olds, Adaess Adams and Braden Brown, died in the Sunday afternoon crash about 10 miles west of Coralville. All of the children killed were from Cedar Rapids.

Police say the crash occurred when the driver of a westbound car, 62-year-old Terrance Joe Edwards, of Cedar Rapids, tried to use a prohibited crossing point to change directions. A truck hit the car while the driver was attempting the move.
Edwards and another 11-year-old child were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The truck driver wasn’t injured.

Sheriff’s deputies in Page County, late Sunday morning, arrested 49-year old Steven William Wells, of College Springs. Wells was arrested for Driving while license is barred, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Spruce Street in College Springs.

He was transported to the Page County Jail and later posted a $2,000 bond. He was released pending future court proceedings.
