Mama in Jail? Probably not

News

June 1st, 2019 by Ric Hanson

The Atlantic Police Department, Friday, said that there have been reports made of local individuals receiving a call indicating that their mother is in the Cass County Jail. It is reported that the call comes in a form similar to a collect (Reverse charges) call. The person on the phone will then ask you for a credit card number, and when you hang up the phone it’s reported that you will receive a text message saying that your credit card has been charged “X” amount of minutes by the Cass County Jail for the phone call.

It is also being reported that the number that appears on the caller ID is a local Atlantic number. Residents are warned that this is a scam and to not give out your credit card information. If you have any questions whether or not you have a relative in the Cass County Jail you can call them directly at (712) 243-6960.

Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Matt Carpenter hit a game-ending single against an unusual defensive alignment in the 10th inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1. The Cardinals won back-to-back games for the first time since April 30-May 1 and avoided the worst winning percentage for May in franchise history by going 9-18.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was put on the 10-day injured list with a strained right thumb tendon. The 36-year-old, a nine-time All-Star, got hurt during Saturday’s game against Atlanta and tried to play through the injury. St. Louis says the move was retroactive to Wednesday. Matt Wieters will get most of the playing time while Molina is sidelined. St. Louis selected the contract of Andrew Knizner from Triple-A Memphis.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Joey Gallo’s first career grand slam capped a six-run, sixth inning outburst as the Texas Rangers rallied past the Kansas City Royals 6-2 Friday night. Gallo’s home run was his team leading 16th of the season. Ariel Jurado (2-2) won for the first time in three major league starts this season.

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — Bubba Wallace hopes a new sponsorship deal leads to better results in the No. 43 car. Wallace also opened up about how talking about his fight with depression has helped himself and others. David Steward, one of just four black billionaires in America, is funding his ride. The Petty family Victory Junction camp will be on the hood for 16 races this season. The collaboration starts this weekend at Pocono Raceway.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Big 12 revenues are up again and expected to surpass $40 million per school annually before the current media rights deal runs out in about five years. Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says each university was receiving $38.8 million for 2018-19. That’s a total of $388 million in the 10-team conference. The 6% jump is the 13th consecutive year of increasing revenues for the Big 12.

UNDATED (AP) — A Cincinnati team that entered the NCAA Tournament with barely a winning record pulled the biggest upset on the first day of games. The Bearcats knocked off defending national champion Oregon State 7-6 on the Beavers’ home field. The Bearcats made the tournament by winning the American Athletic Conference Tournament and were just 30-29. They were the only No. 4 regional seed to win on the first day of the tournament. No. 3 regional seeds opened the tournament 12-3.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — When the St. Louis Blues host the Boston Bruins in Game 3 on Saturday night, it’ll mark the first Stanley Cup Final game in the city in 49 years. The least-penalized team in the playoffs that went to the box 10 times in the two games in Boston will need to balance feeding off a raucous crowd and getting too overemotional in that charged atmosphere.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Blues players say there’s a buzz in the city for the first Stanley Cup Final game here in 49 years. That view does not extend to noted pest Brad Marchand. The Boston Bruins agitator extraordinaire says players expect it to be loud in the NHL playoffs no matter where the game is.
