State Track Day 2 delayed by rainfall

Sports

May 17th, 2019 by admin

The Friday session of the 2019 State Track and Field Championships has been delayed due to the rainy weather in Des Moines. The plan currently is to have the gates open at 9:30am with events now starting at 10:00am.

The schedule for the day will obviously just shift back with the delay. The forecast calls for more rain chances possible in the day so check back for further updates.

The girls shuttle hurdle prelims on Thursday night were pushed back to the Saturday schedule as a timed final due to rain setting in. The last heat of the Boys 4A 400M was scheduled to be squeezed in Friday as well.

Group violating law as it distributes needles to drug users

News

May 17th, 2019 by Ric Hanson

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — The top prosecutor in eastern Iowa’s Dubuque County says he has no immediate plans to file charges against a group that’s been violating state law by distributing sterile needles to intravenous drug users. The group Dubuque Harm Reduction has been open about its activities, sending a letter to county supervisors earlier this month that detailed the group’s services and included an offer to be a resource to the county.

The Telegraph Herald reports that the nonprofit provides medical-grade clean injection supplies and offers HIV and hepatitis C testing, wound care kits and fentanyl-testing strips. A bill legalizing such services in Iowa failed to advance during the recent legislative session. The prosecutor, County Attorney C.J. May III, says it’s obvious there’s a public health issue involved.
