ISU’s Williams suffers achilles injury, will miss 2022-23 Season

Sports

October 7th, 2022 by admin

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior Jeremiah Williams suffered a left Achilles tendon injury and will miss the 2022-23 season. The injury happened in practice on Thursday.

“Jeremiah is an outstanding young man,” Iowa State Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger said. “It’s an unfortunate injury to happen heading into the season. Our program will support Jeremiah through his healing process to help him come back better and stronger.”

A transfer from Temple, Williams saw action in 22 games for the Owls during the 2021-22 season, including 21 starts. He ranked third on the team with 9.5 points per game, while leading Temple with 4.3 assists per game. Williams started 37 of the 38 games he played for Temple, while averaging 9.4 points per game over two seasons. He added 4.2 assists per game over the two seasons, ranking third among AAC players during that span.

Iowa defense prepares for Illinois

Sports

October 7th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell says the Hawkeyes are looking forward to another road challenge this week with a visit to Illinois. Iowa is 3-2 and takes on an Illini team that is 4-1 and winners of three straight.

Campbell says the defense faces a challenge against the Illinois run game.

Junior defensive lineman Logan Lee is a native of Illinois and will have a lot of family members at the game.

The Hawkeyes need a victory to take a 4-2 record into their bye week.

Iowa State’s O’Rien Vance & Deon Silas talk about K-State

Sports

October 7th, 2022 by Ric Hanson

Iowa State linebacker O’Rien Vance says the Cyclones remain confident despite an 0-2 start to the Big 12 race. ISU looks to break through in league play this week at home against Kansas State.

Vance says the goal this week for the defense is to make K-State one dimensional.

Stopping the run game is more of a challenge against K-State quarterback Adrian Martinez.

Iowa State running back Deon Silas is ready for a larger role if needed. The sophomore stepped in at Kansas when Jirehl Brock was injured and finished with 12 carries for 29 yards and also added four receptions.

Silas says while confident in his ability to run and catches passes out of the backfield he wants to improve as a blocker.

Silas says the K-State defense they face this week looks familiar.

Atlantic pulls out five set win over Winterset

Sports

October 6th, 2022 by admin

It came down to the final two points and the Atlantic volleyball team pulled off an exciting five set win over Winterset on Thursday night at Atlantic High School.

The Trojans opened up with a dominant first set win 25-13, led by some big kills from Abby Smith. The second set was controlled by the Huskies and they came out with a 25-17 margin to tie it up at 1-1. Atlantic ripped off a five point rally late in the third set to turn a 15-14 deficit into a 19-15 lead. They ultimately closed out the third 25-19 to go up 2-1. The fourth set turned into a back and forth see saw. Winterset seized control late with a five point rally to lead 24-18, then closed it off 25-19.

The decisive fifth set was full of runs. Atlantic led 5-1 before Winterset rallied to tie it at 10. It was tied again at 13 before Atlantic got a point in the corner off a great shot by Aubrey Guyer. Chloe Mullenix then went to the service line and her serve was misplayed on the back line and the ace gave Atlantic the victory.

Atlantic continues to ride a late season hot streak and improved to 17-19 on the season. They will close off the regular season next Thursday at St. Albert.
