Members of the CAM School Board will meet 6:30-p.m. Monday, in a regular session. In addition to their regular, administrative subjects to cover, the Board will discuss and/or act on:

  • The Boyd-Jones Facility Study
  • A School Resource Office (SRO) Agreement
  • The setting of lunch prices/student fees
  • Handbooks
  • Facility Projects
  • Consideration of a change or changes to regular board meeting dates.
  • and the Instructional Support Levy (ISL).

Public Hearing during Exira-EHK School Board, Monday

A public hearing will be held Monday, during a regular meeting of the Exira-EHK School Board. The hearing is with regard to a Resolution to Expend Funds from [the] District Flexibility Account.

In other business, the Board will discuss and take action on: Approving the aforementioned Resolution; A Resolution to Adopt Return to Play protocol; Approving an Emergency Operations Plan; A Wrestling Sharing Agreement with Audubon; Approving the sharing of a Transportation Director Agreement with IKM-Manning; the Appointments of Tami Jacobsen as Board Secretary, and Karli North as Treasurer/School Business Official.

The Exira-EHK School Board meeting takes place 6-p.m. Monday in the Conference Room at the Elk Horn Building.

Atlantic man arrested in Elliott Sunday morning

A call this (Sunday) morning about a man who had entered a residence in Elliott resulted in the arrest of a Cass County man. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says a residence of the home found 24-year old Shawn A. Jensen, of Atlantic, inside the residence at around 6:45-a.m.

Jensen was arrested outside the home and charged with Public Intoxication. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 bond, pending an initial appearance before the magistrate.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Red Oak Police.

Griswold School Board preview

The Griswold School District’s Board of Education will hold their regular monthly meeting 5:30-p.m. Monday, in the Middle School/High School Library. Old business includes an update on District facilities from KPE Architects and/or Estes Construction, and the second reading of various 800-series Board Policies, along with a School Culture Update.

New Business includes several administrative matters, such as the appointments of: a Business Manager/Treasurer; Board Secretary; and District Attorney. Bids for various goods and services will also be acted on, as well as approval of a Resolution of Intent to sell the Elliott Facility.

The matter was tabled last month due to some ongoing issues with the deed that the Board hoped to have resolved by now.

Atlantic Parks & Rec Board to meet Monday

The City of Atlantic’s Parks and Recreation Department Board will hold their regular, monthly meeting beginning 5:15-p.m. Monday, in the City Council’s Chambers at City Hall.

On their agenda in addition to regular parks related updates, is the closing of City Park restrooms at night, and a report from Parks Director Bryant Rasmussen. He’s expected to inform the Board that the Schildberg Rec Area Campground is FULL for RAGBRAI, and there are self-contained campers near the Dog Park.

He’ll also mention, among other things, that railroad ties are going in to create parking lot barriers at Schildberg, and that the outdoor pool at Sunnyside Park will be closing August 10th.

Biden to make appearances in western IA this week

Former Democrat Vice President Joe Biden is planning to come to Iowa early next week as part of his presidential campaign. According to KETV in Omaha, Biden will travel to Iowa to meet with voters in Des Moines, Waukee, Manning, Le Mars, Sioux City and Council Bluffs. Biden is expected to lay out his vision for America and listen to voters’ concerns and ideas around restoring the soul of the nation, rebuilding the middle class and unifying the country.

He is expected to speak at Olmsted Center at Drake University, 2875 University Ave., Des Moines, at 3:30 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, Biden will be at Leet-Hassler Farmstead, 12196 311th St, near Manning at 11:15 a.m., for a community event. He will then travel to Le Mars for a rural health care event at 3 p.m. Biden’s last stop is in Council Bluffs on Wednesday at 11 a.m. for a final community event.

He will be at the Grass Wagon, 1110 S. 29 St., Wednesday. People who wish to attend can RSVP online at Mobilize.us. Doors at the chosen location will open at 10:30 a.m.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals great Bob Gibson is fighting pancreatic cancer. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said the 83-year-old Hall of Famer was diagnosed with the cancer several weeks ago and revealed the news Saturday to the other living Hall of Famers.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tyler O’Neill drove in four runs, tying a career-high, and Dakota Hudson tossed six effective innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. The Cardinals broke a three-game losing streak,. Eduardo Escobar homered for Arizona, which had a four-game streak snapped.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hometown boy Bubba Starling delivered his first career hit and RBI for Kansas City, Brad Keller out-dueled Matthew Boyd and the Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 4-1. Keller allowed an RBI single to Harold Castro in the second but otherwise shut down Detroit, allowing four hits over eight innings. Boyd faced the minimum number of batters through four before things came undone. Ian Kennedy earned the save for Kansas City.

SILVIS, Illinois (AP) — Cameron Tringale and Andrew Landry shared the third-round lead in the John Deere Classic. Winless on the PGA Tour, Tringale shot a 6-under 65 to match Landy at 16-under 197 at TPC Deere Run. Landry had a 67. He won the Valero Texas Open last year for his lone tour title.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Gerso Fernandes played a role in all three goals and Sporting Kansas City beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0. Fernandes scored in the 91st minute and set up an own goal that went off the foot of Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan in the first half. Fernandes assisted on Felipe Gutierrez’s goal in the 56th minute.
