A Blockton woman was arrested on multiple charges after a traffic stop in Adams County on Tuesday. At 6:30am Adams County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Christina Sweat of Blockton at the 69 mile-marker of Highway 34.
Sweat was found to be in possession of a green leafy substance that looked and smelled like marijuana, along with a pipe. Sweat was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Valid Driver’s License. Sweat was also wanted for Contempt of Court in Adams County. She was taken to the Adams County Jail and held on $2,600 bond until seen by the Magistrate.
Guthrie Center – The Iowa State University Guthrie County Extension and Outreach office will host a meeting on Tuesday, August 13th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with doors open at 5:30 p.m. The location is at the Guthrie County Extension office located at 212 State Street in Guthrie Center. The meeting will last approximately 2 ½ hours and will be facilitated by Tim Christensen, Farm and Agriculture Business Management Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.
The discussion will focus on various methods to determine a fair 2020 cash rental rate and the importance of good tenant/landlord communications. Emphasis will be placed on recent returns to Iowa Cash Rented Land and the 2019 Iowa Cash Rental Rate Survey.
Pre-registration is required at least two days before the meeting and a $20 per individual or $30 per couple fee is payable at the door. Participants will receive a 100-page booklet and meeting handouts designed to assist landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management and leasing arrangements.

The Creston Police Department reports numerous arrests on Tuesday.
At 7:56am Officers arrested 41-year-old Crystal Huddleson of Creston on a Union County Warrant for Burglary 3rd Degree and False Report of Indictable Offense to Public Official. She was taken to the Adams County Jail and held on $15,000 bond.
At 8:30am Creston Police arrested 20-year-old Brianna Lawson of Greenfield on a Union County Warrant for the charges of Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs and Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Offense. She was being held in the Adams County Jail on $5,000 bond.
At 3:04pm Officers arrested 24-year-old Spencer Fisk of Creston at his residence on a Wayne County Warrant for the charge of Violation of Terms of Probation. He was transferred to the custody of Wayne County.
At 6:36pm 32-year-old Leah Hayes of Creston was arrested at her residence on a Union County Warrant on the charge of Violation of Protection Order. She was being held in the Adams County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
At 8:20pm 40-year-old Sheri Watters of Creston was arrested on a Union County Warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Disorderly Conduct and additionally charged with Escape from Custody. She was being held in the Adams County Jail on $1,500 bond.
Creston Police also received a report on Tuesday at 1:30pm of the theft of 2 packs of cigarettes and a bottle of pills from Supreme Cleaners. The loss was estimated at $72.

IRVING, Texas – Four Iowa State defensive players – JaQuan Bailey (DE), Ray Lima (DL), Greg Eisworth (S) and Marcel Spears Jr. (LB) – made the 2019 Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team, announced today by the Big 12 Conference.
The team was chosen by media representatives who cover the league.
Iowa State’s four representatives on the team ties for second behind Oklahoma’s five.
Bailey is one of the greatest defensive ends in school history. The two-time All-Big 12 selection, including a second-teamer in 2018, is currently tied with Shawn Moorehead for the most career sacks in Iowa State history (18.5). His 18.5 career sacks ranks third among active NCAA FBS players.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Bailey has started the last 33 games in his Cyclone career. His 31.5 career TFL ranks fifth in school history and is 2.5 shy from the school record.
In 2018, Bailey led the team and ranked fourth in the Big 12 in sacks (8.0), the third-best season total in school history. He also led the team in TFL, registering the ninth-best season total in the Cyclone record book at 14.5.
Lima has been one of the key cogs in Iowa State’s resurgence on defense the past two seasons as one of the best run-stoppers in the nation.
The Los Angeles, Calif., native is a two-time All-Big 12 selection and was a first-team all-league choice by ESPN in 2018.
The 2018 co-captain has started 21 games and recorded 59 tackles and 8.0 TFL in his career.
Eisworth, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, had and outstanding debut season for the Cyclones in 2018, earning Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the year accolades and First-Team All-Big 12 recognition.
Eisworth started 12 games and led the Cyclones in tackles per game (7.2) to rank eighth in the Big 12.
He led the team in tackles in five of 12 games played and registered 4.0 TFL, an interception and two forced fumbles.
Spears has started every game of the last two seasons, earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 accolades in 2017 and 2018.
A native of Olathe, Kan., Spears enters his senior season with 180 tackles, 16.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks and four interceptions in his career. Three times in his career he’s been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Spears is one of three active FBS linebackers with two pick-sixes in his career. He also has four career double-digit tackle games and two of his interceptions have sealed victories for the Cyclones in the fourth quarter.

CLEVELAND (AP) _ Make it seven straight wins for the American League in the All-Star Game.
Joey Gallo’s solo homer in the seventh inning gave the AL a 4-1 lead before the junior circuit hung on for a 4-3 win over the National League in Cleveland.
The story for the American League was on the mound as nine hurlers each threw one inning and combined to allow just five hits while striking out 16. Indians hurler and game MVP Shane Bieber gave the local fans a thrill by striking out the side in the fifth. Liam Hendriks and Aroldis Chapman also fanned three in their one inning of work.
Former Indian Michael Brantley opened the scoring with an RBI double off loser Clayton Kershaw, scoring Astros teammate Alex Bregman. Gary Sanchez began the junior circuit’s second rally by leading off the fifth with a double before scoring on Jorge Polanco’s single.
Charlie Blackmon put the NL on the board with a two-out homer in the sixth, but the AL regained control on a run-scoring double-play grounder and a solo homer by Joey Gallo. The insurance runs came in handy once Home Run Derby winner Pete Alonso delivered a two-run single in the eighth.
Masahiro Tanaka (mah-sah-HEE’-roh tah-NAH’-kah) worked a scoreless second to get the win.
The American League leads the overall series, 45-43-2.
Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco was saluted in the fifth inning of the All-Star Game during Major League Baseball’s “Stand Up to Cancer” campaign after being recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia. Carrasco had been feeling fatigued in May, and was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia following an exam at the Cleveland Clinic.
He has been cleared to resume conditioning and throwing activities to the extent he can tolerate them.
