A Harlan man was arrested after multiple chases with law enforcement on Monday morning.  The ordeal began when the Harlan Police Department received a request for a welfare check on a female resident in Harlan.  After checking on the female, it was discovered that there was a prior domestic abuse incident and she was transported to Myrtue Medical Center for treatment.

It was later learned that the male suspect involved in the assault, was involved in a pursuit with the Carter Lake Police Department and got away.  At approximately 7:20am a Shelby County Deputy located the vehicle again northbound on Highway 59 north of Avoca and attempted to stop the suspect. He again attempted to allude law enforcement and a chase ensued on Highway 59.  Two attempts to deploy stop strips were made on the vehicle and at one point the suspect swerved his vehicle at Sheriff Mark Hervey while he was deploying spike strips.  The suspect eventually turned onto River Avenue and pulled into Nishna Bend Park where he was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Timothy Lee Davis of Harlan.  He was taken to the Shelby County Jail and charged with: Felony Eluding, OWI 1st Offense, Possession of  a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Assault on a Peace Officer, Reckless Driving, and Domestic Abuse Assault. Additional charges are pending.

Assisting at the scene was the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Harlan Police Department, Iowa Department of Transportation, and Iowa State Patrol.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa agency has announced the latest participants in a voluntary program that encourages farmers to use water quality practices that could reduce farm runoff. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced Monday it was distributing $3.8 million to nearly 2,000 farmers for its cost-share program that helps them offset expenses for implementing water quality practices.

Water quality is expected to be a big issue in the Iowa Legislature next session amid growing disagreement on how to address farm runoff. Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey discussed the program at the Iowa State Fair. He says farmers are committed to investing in water quality.

Some environmental advocates have challenged the long-term benefits of a voluntary program. The federal government estimates there are roughly 87,000 farms operating in Iowa.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports a man and woman from Anita were arrested last week on related charges. 30-year old Paul Joseph Kingery, Jr.,  was arrested on a Felony Assault charge. 27-year old Deena Jo Mills, was arrested on three charges of Child Endangerment. Both were taken to the Cass County Jail. Kingery remains held on $5,000 bond; Mills was released later that day on $6,000 bond.

On Friday Deputies in Cass County arrested 23-year old Taylor James Gardner, of Massena, on a charge of Simple Assault. Gardner was taken to the Cass County Jail and released the following day on his own recognizance.

One person was injured and another cited, following an accident Sunday night just west of Atlantic. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports 61-year old Beverly Rudy, of Atlantic, was transported to the Cass County Memorial Hospital by private vehicle, after her pickup was struck by an oncoming car driven by 23-year old Robert Dillion Espinaldo, of Utica, IL. Espinaldo refused medical attention.

The accident happened at around 9:20-p.m. on Highland Road, near 585^th Street. Officials say Rudy was westbound on Highland Road and was slowing to make a left turn onto 585^th Street when she was struck by an oncoming 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix that did not have its headlights on.

Damage from the collision amounted to  $7,000.  Espinaldo was cited for Failure to Use Headlamps when Required and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance. He was also given a warning ticket for Failure to Maintain Lane.

The Creston Police Department released details Monday on multiple recent arrests.

On Saturday, August 13th at 1:28 am officers arrested 21-year-old Mariah Johannes of Osceola after a traffic stop at Adams and Maple Streets in Creston. She was charged with Driving while Suspended and later released from the Union County Jail on $300 bond.

Also on Saturday at 10:10 pm officers arrested 30-year-old Joshua Coulter of Bridgewater at the intersection of Montgomery and Pine Streets in Creston.  He was arrested on a Union County Warrant for the charges of Criminal Mischief 4th and Trespass – injury or damage greater than $200. He is being held in the Union County Jail on a $1000 bond.

On Sunday, August 14th at 7:44 pm officers arrested 25-year-old Matthew Thomas of Creston at his residence on a Union County Warrant for the charge of Failure to Serve Jail Sentence on the original charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held in the Union County Jail to serve the balance of his 48 hour sentence.

Also on Sunday at 4:37 pm officers arrested 49-year-old Todd Kinkade of Creston.  He was arrested at Summita and Pine Streets in Creston on a Union County Warrant for the charge of Assault Causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness. He was released from the Union County Jail on a $1000 bond.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office also released details on on recent arrest. Deputies arrested 56-year-old Tommy Allen Green Jr of Lorimor on Saturday, August 13th at 5:37pm at the Law Enforcement Center.  Green was arrested on a Union County warrant for failure to appear.  He is being held in the Union County Jail on $10,000 bond.

A domestic incident in Council Bluffs, Saturday afternoon resulted in a brief foot pursuit and the use of a stun gun to subdue a suspect. The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports 33-year old Andrew Michael Hasbrouck, of Council Bluffs, ran from law enforcement as they were questioning him outside of a home in the 19,000 block of Beverly Manor Lane, following an investigation into a disturbance. Hasbrouck was hit with a stun gun deployed by a law enforcement officer and taken into custody without further incident. He was brought to the Pott. County Jail and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Interference with Officials Acts, and Violation of a No Contact Order.

The Pott. County Sheriff’s Office reports two men were arrested early Saturday morning for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, by allegedly providing alcohol to persons underage during a party in Underwood. 23-year old Allen Joseph Wilcoxen, of Carter Lake, and 21-year old John Edward Olsufka, of Council Bluffs, admitted to supplying booze to a large number of juveniles and underage persons. The suspects were transported to the Pott. County Jail. Two females under the age of 21 had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit, and were cited for Minor’s in Possession of Alcohol.

Several people were cited for Minor in Possession and contributing alcohol, following an investigation just before 1-a.m. Sunday, in northeast Council Bluffs, after a neighbor called authorities to complain about loud music. The caller also mentioned the parents were not home while the party was underway. Those cited at the party include, from Council Bluffs: 19-year old Colton Petersen, 19-year old Dallas Raymond-Akers, 19-year old Shasta Logemann, 18-year old Grant Forristall, 19-year old Taylor Peatrowsky 19-year old Darrin Jackson, 19-year old Kelley Welch, 18-year old Jensyn Hanson, 19-year old Emily Rindone, 19-year old Payton Mehsling, 18-year old Hunter Vredenburgh, 18-year old Deontae Davis, 18-year old Edward Bourg, 9-year old Codie Exley, and a 17-year old male; 19-year old Spencer Hardesty, of Crescent; 19-year old Brock Massey, of Omaha; 18-year old Corey Ehlers, a 17-year old male, both of Glenwood.

Authorities said also, 41-year old Craig R. Janssen, of Council Bluffs, was arrested Saturday night for being a Fugitive From Justice. He was taken into custody after a deputy was following up on a report of a suspicious person in the vicinity of 152nd and the Old Morman Bridge Road. The deputy noted Janssen appeared to be intoxicated. While running a check on his driver’s license, the deputy learned Janssen was wanted on a warrant out of Nebraska for alleged Terroristic Threats. He was brought to the Pottawattamie County and held for Nebraska authorities.

A Council Bluffs man was arrested late Saturday on charges of Child Endangerment w/out injury, OWI/1st Offense, and Driving While Revoked. 37-year old Heleodoro Mora, was taken arrested after a deputy observed Mora’s pickup speeding up and slowing down in front of the deputy’s cruiser. When the vehicle was stopped, and after questioning, Mora was taken into custody on the charges mentioned. The child endangerment charge was due to Mora’s 10-year old daughter being in the vehicle with him while he was allegedly impaired.

And, an Omaha man was arrested late Saturday night following an accident near the Harrison County line. 52-year old Timothy F. Shanahan suffered apparent minor injuries when he drove his SUV down a steep embankment and into a corn field near the 31,000 block of 145th Street. Shanahan tested over twice the legal limit for intoxication, and was arrested for OWI/1st offense. He was also cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

Shortly before 10:00 a.m. Monday morning Page County Deputies and Clarinda Police Officers were summoned to a reported unknown emergency situation at the Page County Courthouse.  Upon arrival, authorities learned that there were some individuals involved in a domestic quarrel in the Clerk of the Court’s Office. The situation was de-escalated quickly by Page County Deputies with back-up assistance provided by the Clarinda Police Department.

Clarinda Police are once again reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times and keep valuables and cash removed from the vehicle if possible or out of sight after another rash of vehicle break-ins overnight.  Monday morning the department took numerous reports of unlocked vehicles being ransacked overnight and cash and miscellaneous personal property taken. Residents are asked to contact the Page County dispatch center if suspicious activity is observed.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office released details on Monday of multiple recent arrests.

On Sunday, August 7th the Adair Police Department arrested 26-year-old Joseph Dean White of Atlantic on charges of Assault and Public Intoxication. He was arrested after walking the streets of Adair while intoxicated and banging on doors.  He also allegedly cut another individual on the shoulder while that person was sleeping.  He was released the next day on $2,000 bond.

On Monday, August 8th at 2:07 am the Iowa State Patrol arrested 21-year-old Dinesh Biswa of Omaha for OWI 1st Offense. Biswa was arrested on Interstate 80 Eastbound at Exit 88.  He was taken into custody and released Wednesday on $1,000 bond.

Also on August 8th the Adair County Sheriff’s Office took 63-year-old Mark Stephen Miller of Orient into custody on a court order for serving a sentence.  He was released on Wednesday after time served.

On Tuesday, August 9th the Adair County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old James Alan Klemish of Adair on multiple drug possession charges.  At 4:20pm Klemish was arrested at 1211 150th Street in Adair for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana 1st Offense, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, and Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine 1st Offense.  Klemish was released later that evening on his own recognizance. On Wednesday, August 10th at the same address the Adair County Sheriff’s office cited and released 73-year-old Mary Kaye Klemish of Adair for a Prescription Drug Violation 1st Offense.

On Wednesday, August 10th Stuart Police arrested 41-year-old Elmer Lee Harwell of Bedford on charges of Violation of a No Contact Order and 2nd Degree Harassment.  Harwell was arrested in the 300 Block of SW Kent Street in Greenfield at 11:41pm.  He was arrested after attempting to break into a residence in Stuart by prying at the door and lock in which the resident had a no contact order in place against him.  He later sent harassing text messages to the resident of the apartment and threatened to shoot her if she didn’t talk to him.  Harwell was taken into custody and held on $7,000 cash bond.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office also arrested 27-year-old Alyssa Janeen Carroll of Des Moines on Friday, August 12th for Probation Violation.  Carroll was arrested at 6:42pm at the Dallas County Jail and held until seen by a magistrate.

INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who escaped from the Warren County Jail in Indianola has been seen traveling with a woman being sought by Missouri authorities. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that 26-year-old Scott Grimes escaped around 10:20 p.m. Sunday while a jailer was handing out medications to prisoners.
