JEREMIAH JUHL, 39, of Fontanelle, died unexpectedly on July 8th, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering for JEREMIAH JUHL will be held 11-a.m. Tuesday, July 16th, at the Bridgewater Community Building, in Bridgewater.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

JEREMIAH JUHL is survived by:

His wife – Terri Juhl, of Fontanelle.

His daughter – Lauren Juhl, of Fontanelle.

His Step-son: Hunter Bishop, of Fontanelle.

His Father – Denny Juhl, of Brayton.

His sister – Jessica Ostrus & her Significant Other, Jake Zook, both of Atlantic.

His grandparents: Bill & Kathy Juhl, of Atlantic.

Red Oak man & a NE woman arrested Monday morning on warrants

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two people on warrants, early this (Monday) morning. Just before 1-a.m., 50-year old Rene Telesforo Valdivia, of Red Oak, was arrested on a Montgomery County warrant for Burglary in the 3rd degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance/1st offense. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $6,000 bond.

And, 24-year old Kylen Mary Gates, of Papillion, Nebraska, was arrested on a Montgomery County warrant for Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs. Her bond was set at $300.

Clarinda man arrested Sunday night

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports 22-year old Keldon Dean Stiner, of Clarinda, was arrested at around 10:45-p.m., Sunday. Stiner was taken into custody for Driving While Suspended, No SR-22 Insurance on file, and on a Page County warrant for Violation of Probation. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt homered, Adam Wainwright pitched seven scoreless innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals held on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2. Wainwright relied on a mixture of cutters, change-ups and curve balls as he allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven. Arizona trailed 5-0 going to the ninth before scoring twice and had the bases loaded with two outs. However, Carlos Martinez got Eduardo Escobar to hit a fly ball to center.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jeimer Candelario hit a bases-clearing double and Gordon Beckham added a two-run homer during a seven-run third inning, and the Detroit Tigers took advantage of Kansas City’s late pitching switch to beat the Royals 12-8. Nick Ramirez earned the win with three solid innings in relief of Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann. Brian Flynn took the loss after the late start in place of Homer Bailey, who was dealt to Oakland for an infield prospect.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals are sending Homer Bailey to the Oakland Athletics after scratching the veteran right-hander about 45 minutes before his scheduled start against Detroit. In return, Kansas City is getting minor league infielder Kevin Merrell. He’s been playing at Double-A Midland and will report to the Royals’ affiliate at Northwest Arkansas.

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) — Dylan Frittelli won the John Deere Classic for his first PGA Tour title, closing with a 7-under 64 for a two-stroke victory over Russell Henley. The South African earned a spot next week in the British Open, finishing at 21-under 263 after the bogey-free final round at TPC Deere Run. Henley shot a tournament-best 61.

UNDATED (AP) — Alabama’s dominance ranks among the most impressive dynasties in college football history. It has also made the Southeastern Conference a bit stale recently as the league’s 14 teams gather for their annual media days this week in Hoover, Alabama. A group of talented quarterbacks might make the SEC a bit more interesting this fall. Georgia’s Jake Fromm, LSU’s Joe Burrow and Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond are among the standouts.

UNDATED (AP) — Joe Biden is making clear to voters that he is defending the national health care law known as “Obamacare.” The Democratic presidential candidate says he’s opposing anyone who wants to scrap the health care law. Instead, Biden says Obamacare should be the foundation for changes, including a government insurance plan known as the public option to existing exchanges that sell private insurance. Biden is set to discuss health care on Monday at a forum in Iowa.

CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Floyd County fair will move forward this week despite damage to several buildings from a tornado that passed through the area earlier this year. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the fair is ready to begin as planned on Wednesday, and only a few modifications are needed because of the storm damage. A tornado destroyed five buildings on the fairgrounds in May and damaged several others.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old boy died after being thrown from an off-road vehicle he was riding in that rolled over. The Des Moines Register reports that the Jackson County Sheriff’s office is investigating the Saturday afternoon crash in a rural area outside Bellevue, Iowa, that happened during a gathering of off-road vehicles.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Emergency response planners will gather in Omaha next month to work on improving the way they plan for disasters. The Environmental Protection Agency is sponsoring the conference from Aug. 8-10 for the region that includes Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.

Wainwright pitches 7 scoreless, Cardinals beat D-Backs 5-2

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright made the most of a couple of extra days of rest.
Paul Goldschmidt homered, Wainwright pitched seven scoreless innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals held on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 on Sunday.

Wainwright (6-7), who was scratched from Friday’s start due to back spasms, relied on a mixture of cutters, change-ups and curve balls. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven as he improved 4-0 in day starts this season.

Cardinals: RHP Miles Mikolas (5-9, 4.53 ERA) will get the start to kick off a three-game series against Pittsburgh and RHP Joe Musgrove (6-7, 4.15 ERA) on Monday night. Mikolas is 2-3 with a 2.96 ERA in nine career appearances against the Pirates.

Boy dies when off-road vehicle driven by teen rolls over

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old boy died after being thrown from an off-road vehicle he was riding in that rolled over. The Des Moines Register reports that the Jackson County Sheriff’s office is investigating the Saturday afternoon crash in a rural area outside Bellevue, Iowa, that happened during a gathering of off-road vehicles.

Authorities say the boy from Clinton, Iowa, was riding in a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 15-year-old when the crash happened. The 12-year-old was ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath it. Three other occupants of the vehicle were not hurt.

Emergency response conference planned for Omaha in August

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Emergency response planners will gather in Omaha next month to work on improving the way they plan for disasters.

The Environmental Protection Agency is sponsoring the conference from Aug. 8-10 for the region that includes Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.

The conference will feature a tabletop exercise for participants to work through the emergency response process.

ALAN “Skip” CARLSEN, 81, of Harlan, died Saturday, July 13th, at Myrtue Medical Center, in Harlan. Funeral services for “SKIP” CARLSEN will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, July 18th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Harlan. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5-until 7-p.m. Wednesday, July 17th.

Burial will be held at a later date.

ALAN “Skip” CARLSEN is survived by:

His wife – Jonne Carlsen, of Harlan.

His sons – Jeff (Rada) Carlsen, of Crystal Lake, IL, & Chris Carlsen, of Millard, NE.

His brother – Keith (Shirley) Carlsen, of Green Valley, AZ.

6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
