GRIMES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a man was burned when the boat engine he was working on caught fire in a Des Moines suburb. Firefighters were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. Monday to the residence in Grimes. They contained the flames to the garage in which the boat was parked. The injured man was taken to a hospital. He’s been identified as 37-year-old David Boots.

Police in Missouri Valley are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who allegedly committed a burglary Sunday night, at Valley Arms. Surveillance video still-frame imagery shows a white male with a blue shirt and bright green stocking cap with black bands. One of the bands has green lettering with the partial word “BOS” visible. If you have information that could help police catch the suspect, call 712-642-2736.

Atlantic Municipal Utilities is working to shut-off water to the area between Birch and Hickory Streets this morning. The move is necessary so repairs could take place on a broken water main. It’s not clear how soon the main will be back on-line.

Officials with the Iowa Dept. of Public Safety said late Monday night, that the Remsen Police Department took a report Monday, of a missing female identified as 27 year-old NICOLE ANN TROMETER of Remsen, Iowa.  The Remsen Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Le Mars Police Department searched the area and were unable to locate TROMETER.  TROMETER has two vehicles that have not been located.

TROMETER was last see Sunday morning September 1, 2019, in Le Mars Iowa with DANIEL KITTREDGE (Age 34).

At this time, TROMETER’S disappearance is being investigated by the Remsen Police Department, Le Mars Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa police say a 19-year-old is expected to recover after being accidentally shot in the head in Des Moines. Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek told the Des Moines Register that the man will be fine, and it’s “kind of remarkable.” Police responded to reports of a shooting Saturday at a house party south of Drake University. Parizek says charges likely will be filed.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg are taking a no-compromise approach on overhauling the nation’s gun laws after the latest spate of mass shootings. The former vice president and the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, say Democrats must push universal background checks, red flag laws and a renewed ban on military-style weaponry. Their comments come two days after a gunman went on a rampage in Odessa, Texas, killing seven people before being gunned down by police.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is building up his organization in Iowa this month, with an eye on the state’s early caucus. The South Bend, Indiana, mayor plans to use the last quarter’s nearly $25 million in campaign contributions to create an army of peer-to-peer foot soldiers. Buttigieg is racing to catch his better-known 2020 rivals, who have spent months building organizations in the state that marks the first test for the Democratic presidential nomination.

INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — One person is dead after fire broke out an apartment complex in Indianola. KCCI-TV reports that the fire was reported at 6:37 a.m. Sunday at Foxwood Apartments. The apartment belonged to a 64-year-old woman. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if she was the person killed in the blaze. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but authorities say foul play is not suspected.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office reports two people from central Iowa were arrested on Burglary charges, Aug. 25th. 36-year old Shannon Kay Keeney, of Des Moines, was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree-Vehicle related; Burglary in the 3rd Degree, and Theft in the 2nd Degree. 47-year old Matthew Em Jones, of Indianola, was also charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree-Vehicle and Burglary in the 3rd. He was also charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Theft in the 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Keeney was being held in the Adair County Jail on a $12,000 cash or surety bond. Jones was released the following day on a $19,000 cash or surety bond.

Authorities say Keeney and Jones entered a property and took a vehicle, then entered another property and stole items valued at around $3,000. Jones was found to be in possession of numerous tools used to commit a Burglary, along with a face mask, bug spray and a flashlight. He also had a backpack that contained syringes and a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office reports also, 34-year old Sherrece Patricia Kilgore, of Bridgewater, was arrested Aug. 30th in Creston, on an Adair County warrant for a Controlled Substance Violation. She was transferred to the custody of Adair County and released later that same day on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. 38-year old Jason A. Lampman, of Des Moines, was arrested Aug. 30th, on a No Bond warrant out of Lancaster County, Nebraska.

And, 41-year old Jeremias Reyna, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was arrested Aug. 31st in Adair County, after he allegedly made loud, raucous noises at around 2-a.m., while on a westbound bus to Omaha on Interstate 80, causing unreasonable distress to the other riders. A Sheriff’s deputy spoke with the Burlington Trailways bus driver while the bus was at the Adair Rest Area. The driver said Reyna was intoxicated and had been arguing and yelling with a passenger in the back of the bus. He said the man had been acting up since he boarded the bus in Des Moines.

He also allegedly tried to hit the other passenger. Reyna was warned three times by the driver to calm down and stop causing trouble. He was subsequently escorted off the bus and transported to the Adair County Jail, and released later that same day on his Own Recognizance.
