Police in Council Bluffs say one person suffered minor injuries during an assault and robbery Thursday night. Authorities say 30-year old Johnny Rowland, of Bellevue, NE, was treated at the scene of the incident by Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue personnel.

Rowland and witnesses told Police he was outside of an apartment at 901 N. 35th Street in Council Bluffs at around 10:20-p.m. Thursday, when he was confronted by three black men. The suspects assaulted Rowland using their hands,
feet, and a bottle. During the assault Rowland had his wallet stolen.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Chevy SUV. If you have any information about the incident, call crime stoppers at 712-328-7867.

A traffic stop on a truck at around 7:45-p.m. Thursday in Adams County, resulted in the arrest of a man from Villisca. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year old Daniel Elmer Bright, of Villisca, was placed under arrest for Driving While License Revoked (due to a previous OWI). Bright was being held in the Adams County Jail on $1,000 bond.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Emails released to The Associated Press show that four days before he allegedly ambushed and killed two Iowa police officers, Scott Michael Greene sent the local police department a laudatory note calling officers “absolute heroes.” In an online compliment form, the unemployed 46-year-old father wrote Oct. 29: “I love you folks.”

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal appeals court has rejected a lawsuit by six states challenging a California law that prohibits the sale off eggs from chickens that are not raised in cages with sufficient space. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky and Iowa failed to show how the law would affect them and not just individual egg farmers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Opponents of the Dakota Access oil pipeline protested in North Dakota’s capital for a fourth straight day. A couple of hundred protesters marched around downtown Bismarck on Thursday, prompting police to temporarily shut down a couple of streets. Police spokesman Sgt. Mark Buschena says eight people were arrested. Protesters have targeted numerous sites in Bismarck and neighboring Mandan since Monday, including the state Capitol and the state-owned Bank of North Dakota.

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A 30-year-old man is facing two first-degree murder charges after a shooting in Mason City left two people dead. Mason City Police say a shooting was reported around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, and officers found Melinda Kavars and Caleb Christensen dead inside a home.

A single-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 just west of Avoca, resulted in a Council Bluffs woman being sent to a hospital. The Iowa State Patrol reports the driver of the vehicle, 19-year old Brittni Walker, was taken to Myrtue Hospital in Harlan, by Avoca Rescue. A report on her condition was not available.

Officials say Walker, who was wearing her seat belt,  was traveling west at around 3:40-p.m., and had attempted to pass another vehicle, when she lost control of the 2004 Chevy Malibu she was driving. The vehicle entered the north ditch and hit the face of a guardrail head-on.

Deputies with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office and crews from Avoca Rescue assisted the patrol at the crash site.

The Shelby County Emergency Management Agency, Thursday afternoon, said the field and grassland Fire Danger index will remain in the “Moderate” category through at least Saturday. It would be wise, officials say, to consider postponing any open burning, especially near structures, because the winds will be very strong.Remember too, when planning to burn, contact your local fire chief or the Shelby County EMA office at 712-755-2124.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a man wanted on warrants for two counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, has turned himself-in. 18-year old Drew Henry Miller, of Atlantic, appeared at the Cass County Jail Wednesday, and was arrested on the felony warrants. Miller remains held at the Cass County Jail on $7,000 bond.

The Harlan Police Department reports today (Thursday), a few arrests took place over the past week. On Monday, 19-year old Brett Keane, of Panama, was arrested when officers were called to investigate activity in an apartment that was supposed to be vacant.  Keane was transported to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and prohibited acts penalties.

Last Saturday, 24-year old Alina McFarland, of Emerson, was arrested when Harlan Police Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated female in the 500 block of Market Street.  McFarland was transported to the Shelby County Jail where she was charged with intoxication in public.

On. Nov. 11th, 55-year old Larry Dean Hansen, of Harlan, was arrested following a traffic stop.  Hansen was taken to the Shelby County Jail where he was charged with driving while barred.  Hansen was also cited for insufficient number of headlamps.

And, on Nov. 10th, 31-year old Brandon Martin, of Harlan, was arrested following a traffic stop.  Martin was cited for driving under suspension, given a court date and released.

A central Iowa man is accused of trying to abduct a child in western Iowa. Onawa Police responded to a call Wednesday afternoon about a man who attempted to abduct a young girl. Witnesses provided a description of his vehicle, which an Iowa State Trooper spotted south of Onawa on Interstate 29. The trooper arrested the driver, 56-year-old Jeff Lee Altmayer, of Ankeny. Altmayer is charged with enticing a minor, impersonating a public official, and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says a man from Kansas was arrested early this (Thursday) morning, after trying to evade a Deputy. Authorities say at around 3-a.m., 69-year old James Benard Zimmerman, of Olathe, Kansas, traveling 82-mph in a 55 zone, on Highway 92, near 270th Street. When a Pott. County Deputy tried to stop the 1996 Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme, Zimmerman turned south onto 275th Street in an attempt to evade him. He stopped his car in the 1400 block of 275th, and was placed under arrest for Failure to Have a License. He was also cited for speeding.
