Red Oak Police report the arrest at around 1 o’clock this (Saturday) morning, of 54-year old Bradley Dean Gary, of Red Oak. Authorities say Gary was taken into custody in the 2400 block of North Broadway. He was placed under arrest on a valid Pottawattamie County warrant for OWI/2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where bond was set at $2,000.

Mahomes has had an MRI exam. The league’s MVP was injured during Thursday night’s win.
DENVER (AP) — The Year of the Backup Quarterback now features Matt Moore, a 35-year-old journeyman who was out of football last year. Moore was thrust into the Chiefs’ lineup when reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes injured his right knee at Denver. The league’s celebration of its 100th season has been marred by the loss of some of its biggest stars. The club of QBs sidelined so far includes Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton, Nick Foles, Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky and Sam Darnold.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Clint Bowyer rolled into Kansas Speedway on Friday with the comfort of knowing he’ll be with Stewart-Haas Racing next season and the uncertainty of whether he’ll be in the playoffs next week. The native Kansan reached a contract extension with SHR to remain in the No. 14 Ford regardless of what happens Sunday, when Bowyer faces postseason elimination. He sits 11th in the 12-driver field with the bottom four drivers eliminated after the race at Kansas Speedway.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Christian Eckes won the ARCA Series finale along with its season championship Friday night. The 18-year-old from Greenville, New York, had a 15-point lead on Venturini Motorsports teammate Michael Self heading into the race at Kansas Speedway. Self went to the front early in the race before Eckes, who started from the back after an engine change, methodically reeled him in.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — The No. 47 team from JTG Daugherty Racing was busy putting an engine into a backup car for Ryan Preece after its team transporter caught fire the previous day. The drivers in the hauler were not injured, though the team was unsure what could be salvaged of the cars. Meanwhile, the Xfinity Series entry from Kaulig Racing was scrambling after its own hauler crashed down an embankment. Nobody was hurt in that wreck, either.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Missouri coach Barry Odom knows the dangers of going on the road and how a few mistakes can prove very costly. Though Missouri is ranked No. 22 and has won five straight, Odom is going back to basics as his Tigers visit Vanderbilt for their first road game since a stunning loss at Wyoming to open this season. He says the Tigers will treat this like their first game of the year. The staff is reminding players to prepare and play diligently to avoid a road misstep against a desperate team.
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Every time that longtime Kansas State coach Bill Snyder seemed to be leaning toward retirement, it seemed as if TCU coach Gary Patterson’s name would surface as the logical successor for the Wildcats. Things never quite worked out that way, and now Chris Klieman will lead the Wildcats against Patterson’s Horned Frogs on Saturday.

MONTEZUMA, Iowa (AP) — Part of the case against a former farmhand charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 20-year-old University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts appears to be in jeopardy because of a botched Miranda warning. The Des Moines Register reports that prosecutors have agreed to exclude some statements at the trial 25-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera reportedly made to police over a more than 6-hour period the day Tibbetts’ body was found.
STUART, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified officers and a suspect wounded in a shootout as law enforcement sought to serve an arrest warrant. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says in a news release that Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputies Steven Henry and Jim Mink suffered gunshot wounds, as did 52-year old suspect Randall Comly. Investigators say the shooting happened late Thursday night as the officers sought to serve felony warrants on Comly.
UNDATED (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has ended an effort in Iowa City to save an elementary school, saying that even as residents are voting on a preservation proposal, the district has a right to demolish the building. The decision Friday comes in a lawsuit patrons of the Iowa City Community School District filed in 2017, after the school board refused to place on a special election ballot a measure asking voters whether to approve demolition of Hoover Elementary School.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — In the weeks after an August groundbreaking ceremony for a $136 million federal courthouse, an unusual building has slowly arisen in the heart of downtown Des Moines. The two-story white building with wood siding and a gable roof would fit in well in the suburbs but at this spot, along the Des Moines River and facing the three-story elegant City Hall, it’s an oddity. Project manager Brad Thomason says the building made sense because a lot of space was needed on a small site.
The AHSTW Vikings grinded out a win over Southwest Valley 25-12 on Friday night in Avoca. The Vikings came up with some big plays at key points of the game to pick up their 5th win of the season.
Both team scored on their opening offensive possessions. The Vikings drove all the way inside the Timberwolves 5 yard line on the opening possession of the game. They Timberwolves defense bowed up though and the Vikings settled for a 22-yard field goal from Raydden Grobe. The Timberwolves answered on their first possession. After a holding call threatened to stall their drive, quarterback Brendan Knapp launched a 76 yard touchdown pass to Blaine Venteicher to give the Timberwolves the lead. Their PAT was blocked and the score was 6-3.
The defensed then dominated the bulk of the half until the Vikings connected on a touchdown pass from Blake Holst to Raydden Grobe with 29 seconds left in the half. Grobe added the point after and it was 10-6 at half.
The teams would once again trade scores to start the second half. Knapp scored on a 1 yard run to put Southwest Valley up 12-10 after a failed 2pt try. Blake Holst then scored on a 4 yard run to put the Vikings up 17-12. The next 7 possessions ended in punts or turnovers for both squads as the defenses held firm. The Vikings were eventually able to capitalize on their second interception of the half when Jackson Woltmann ripped off a 45 yard touchdown run to seal the win.
AHSTW improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Class A District 9. They travel to St. Albert for their final regular season game next week. The Timberwolves fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the district. They will host Riverside next week.

(Radio Iowa) — The Iowa Insurance Division has issued a cease and desist order against the owner of funeral homes in Emmetsburg and Graettinger. Division spokesman, Chance McElhaney says the order involves pre-sales.”The Iowa Insurance Division has ordered Andrew Joyce of Joyce Funeral Home (Emmetsburg) and Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home (Graettinger) to cease and desist acting as a pre-need seller or as a sales agent,” McElhaney says.
McElhaney says Joyce has used deceptive and fraudulent activities in handling the sales. “You have to place the funds in trust as required by Iowa law,” McElhaney says, “Some of those funds have been co-mingled with personal and unrelated expenses. You can’t sell these things without a license and that was found to have happened. There’s other violations here.” McElhaney says they are seeking help in determining how many people are involved.
“The Iowa Insurance Division is looking for folks who may’ve purchased or otherwise worked with Andrew Joyce, Joyce-Alesch, Joyce Funeral Home, and they believe that they have pre-need funeral arrangements. We want to make sure that folks that may’ve done business — that we are aware of it.” He says they have sent out letters to those who they know were working with the two funeral homes.
This latest action follows a recent request for a receivership to try and protect the funds that are held in trust by the funeral homes.
SHARON SORRELLS, 74, of Walnut, died Friday, Oct. 18th, at Myrtue Medical Center, in Harlan. A Mass of Christian Burial for SHARON SORRELLS will be held 11-a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Walnut. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Avoca has the arrangements.
Visitation at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church will be held from 9:30-a.m. until until the time of service, Tuesday.
Burial is in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the Chiefs have not revealed any sort of timetable for his return. Mahomes underwent an MRI exam earlier in the day.
The reigning league MVP was hurt during the Chiefs’ 30-6 win in Denver on Thursday night while sneaking for a first down on fourth-and-short deep in Broncos territory. Everyone jumped up from the pile but Mahomes, who immediately grabbed for his right knee as trainers rushed onto the field.
Team physicians were able to get his patella back in place on the field. The Chiefs play Green Bay a week from Sunday, then face the Vikings and Titans before a Monday night matchup against Tennessee on Nov. 18. The Chiefs (5-2) have their bye the following week, so it is possible they hold Mahomes out until Dec. 1 against Oakland. The Packers-Chiefs game was supposed to be a Sunday night showdown between Mahomes and Green Bay counterpart Aaron Rodgers. Now it’s merely an intriguing matchup of playoff contenders.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said journeyman quarterback Matt Moore, who was signed just before the season, would be the starter going forward, and that rookie Kyle Shurmur — the son of longtime NFL coach Pat Shurmur — could be elevated from the practice squad as the backup.
MONTEZUMA, Iowa (AP) — Part of the case against a former farmhand charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 20-year-old University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts appears to be in jeopardy because an officer failed to properly read him his Miranda rights.
Prosecutors have agreed to exclude at trial some statements that 25-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera made to police, the Des Moines Register reported . Court documents prosecutors filed Friday acknowledge that the initial Miranda warning given to Rivera around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2018, was incomplete because the officer “inadvertently” failed to inform Rivera that anything he said could be used against him in court.
His Miranda rights were accurately read to him a second time at 5:50 a.m. the following day as police were in a cornfield where Tibbetts’ body was found.
Tibbetts disappeared while out for a run July 18, 2018, in Brooklyn, Iowa. Investigators recovered her body a month later. She had been stabbed to death. Prosecutors agree in their filings Friday that any statements Rivera made between 11:30 p.m. and 5:50 a.m. should be suppressed but argue they should be able to use those statements to rebut testimony. Defense attorneys for Rivera want the statements fully suppressed.
Chief Deputy Attorney General Eric Tabor on Friday declined to comment or answer questions about which of Rivera’s statements would be excluded from trial evidence. Police have said Rivera led them to Tibbetts’ body after confessing during a lengthy interrogation to following Tibbetts in his car, getting out on foot and chasing after her. Rivera told investigators that he panicked after Tibbetts threatened to call police on her cellphone. Police said Rivera told investigators he blacked out and later came to when he was unloading her bloody body from the trunk of his car.
Rivera is set to appear in court Oct. 22, when a judge will decide what evidence will be allowed at his trial, which is set to start in February.
