Taylor County Deputies arrest 6 people following an altercation

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office reports at at around 1:12-a.m. today (Saturday), Deputies responded to an altercation in the 400 block of Main Street in Bedford. Six individuals were arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct. Those arrested include: 22-year old Logan Stark, of Mount Ayr; 21-year old Lincoln Martin, of Diagonal; 22-year old Jacob Taylor, of Diagonal, 22-year old Hunter Russell, of Bedford, 22-year old Benjamin Hill, of Bedford, and 36-year old Casey Bann, also of Bedford. Bond was set at $300 for each person.

Stuart Police arrest alleged pop can donation site thief

The Stuart Police Department reports that at around 9:30-a.m. Wednesday, Stuart Officers were dispatched to the West Central Redemption Center at 121 S. Division Street in Stuart, on the report of a theft suspect attempting to cash in pop cans.

Officers arrived and contacted, Nicole Marie Davenport, of Windsor Heights, IA. Davenport was driving a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle driven by a suspect in a reported theft of several bags of pop cans on Nov. 19th, from Stuart. Davenport admitted to Officers that she had taken several bags of pop cans from a BSA Can Donation site the night before and that she had cashed the cans in for approximately $9.00 at the redemption center.

Davenport was charged with Theft in the 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor, and given a court appearance of Dec. 12th in Guthrie County Court. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be filed. The suspect in this case is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

(Cyclones.com) FARGO, N.D. – Iowa State’s Ashley Joens tallied a 26-point, 14-rebound double-double to help lead the Cyclones (3-1) past North Dakota State (0-5), 86-58, on Friday night at the Scheels Center. Junior guard Rae Johnson was also outstanding, putting up a career-high 16 points on an efficient shooting night, knocking down 6-of-8 from the field, including 4-of-6 on 3-point attempts.

UPDATE: More information released on fatal crash in Pottawattamie County

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information on a two-vehicle accident that resutled in two fatalities.

The crash happened at approximately 1:23pm Friday in the area of Pioneer Trail and Humbolt Lane. Upon arrival Deputies located a 2017 Ford F-350 and a 1998 Honda CRV involved in the crash. The F-350 was being driven by 46-year-old Rollin Hansen of Council Bluffs eastbound on Pioneer Trail near the intersection with Humbolt Lane. The driver of the CRV has not been determined but the vehicle was westbound on Pioneer Trail near that same intersection. The vehicles collided near the intersection sending both vehicles into the south ditch and the CRV overturned.

One occupant of the CRV was identified at 17-year old Floyd Quick of Council Bluffs who along with another occupant who has not been identified were pronounced dead at the scene. The State Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the other occupant that was killed.

The investigation indicates that speed was a factor and that another vehicle was involved and failed to stop. If you have any information on this vehicle, please contact the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigations Division at 712-890-2288.

Atlantic’s Moen commits to Iowa State Football

Atlantic multi-sport athlete Tyler Moen announced via twitter Friday his commitment to play football for Iowa State as a preferred walk-on.

Moen had a breakout senior season at running back for the Trojans. He set the all-time Atlantic single-season rushing record with 1,909 yards. He ended his career fifth on the Trojans all-time  rushing list with 2,427 yards. He nearly set the single game rushing record for the state when he ran for 523 yards on 31 carries in a Week 8 win over Shenandoah. He finished that game with 5 rushing touchdowns and also added two interception returns for touchdowns. Moen finished the year with 25 total touchdowns.

Tyler has also been a stalwart for the basketball and track teams. He placed 3rd in the 400 meters at the State Meet as a Junior and placed 5th in the 200M. He was also a member of Atlantic’s winning 4x400M Relay and Distance Medley Relay teams.

Moen is preparing for his senior year on the basketball team, where is has contributed since his freshman year. He is coming off a Junior season where he averaged 13.7 points per game.

IHSAA releases District and Sectional Wrestling assignments

As the 2019-2020 high school wrestling season gets underway the IHSAA has released the postseason assignments. Sectional tournaments will be contested on February 8th and District tournaments on February 15th. The State Wrestling Tournament will be held February 20th-22nd at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

District host sites for area Class 1A teams will include Underwood, Pleasantville, and MVAOCOU. ACGC, Audubon, Griswold, and Nodaway Valley will compete in Sectionals at ACGC on the 8th. AHSTW and Riverside will compete at Riverside. Underwood will then be the District tourney site.

In Class 2A ADM, Atlantic/CAM, Creston/O-M, Greene County, Kuemper Catholic, Panorama, and Winterset are all assigned to the ADM Sectional. Glenwood’s Sectional site will include Clarinda, Glenwood, Harlan, Red Oak, Shenandoah, and Southwest Iowa. Qualifiers from ADM and Glenwood sectionals will compete at the District tournament in Atlantic on February 15th.

Class 3A has just one round of qualifying with District tournaments. Carroll and Denison-Schleswig will compete at Dallas Center-Grimes. Lewis Central, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln compete at Johnston.
