It is the Cyclones’ third of the season, with Stephanie Soares winning at the end of November following the PKI.

Joens is now a 12-time Big 12 Player of the Week, now tied for second in Big 12 history for career Player of the Week honors with former Cyclone Bridget Carleton (2016-19). It also marked the 60th time in program history the Cyclones have earned the Big 12 Player of the Week award, the second-most among the league’s programs.

Harrison Butker knocked in a 45-yard field goal with 3 seconds left and the Kansas City Chiefs edged past the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to win the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night. The Chiefs will head back to the Super Bowl for the third time in the past four seasons.

Butker’s kick came after a scramble for a few yards by Patrick Mahomes and a personal foul penalty was thrown for a late hit that put Butker into range. It was a back and forth game prior to that with the Chiefs leading 13-6 at halftime, the Bengals tying it at 13 early in the third, and two more traded scores before a largely quiet fourth quarter.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes with 4:15 left in the third quarter to put KC up 20-13. Samaje Perine scored on a 2-yard run with 13:30 left to tie it back up at 20.

Iowa beats Rutgers 93-82

Sports

January 29th, 2023 by Ric Hanson

Iowa closed the opening half with a 16-5 run and beat Rutgers 93-82 in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes fought off a second half rally that saw the Scarlet Knights trim a 13-point Hawkeye lead to one.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who says the Hawkeyes did a better job of taking care of the basketball.

Junior forward Patrick McCaffery saw his first action in nearly a month after stepping away to deal with anxiety. He hit a trio of three pointers and finished with nine points.

It was McCaffery’s first game since a New Year’s Day loss at Penn State.

The Hawkeyes host Northwestern Tuesday night.
