ATLANTIC – The Cass County Health System has extended the deadline for all scholarship applications until May 1, 2020. The scholarships below are available to area students through CCHS and its affiliate organizations:

• Cass County Health System offers a $1,000 scholarship to southwest Iowa students pursuing a four-year degree in a health-related career.
• Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary provides grant-in-aid scholarships for students pursuing a health-related career.
• Cass County Health System Foundation is offering $10,000 in scholarships to students who are enrolled and have been accepted into a nursing or medical doctor educational program.

The scholarships were established by a bequest from Louie and Elsie Hansen. Applications are available on the Cass County Health System website, www.casshealth.org, and can be turned in to the Public Relations Office by May 1st.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa health officials say 64 additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, bringing the state’s total to nearly 300. The Iowa Department of Public Health said Saturday in a news release that the new cases included 14 in Linn County and 12 in Polk County. The new cases include 29 who range in age from 18 to 40; 22 who are 41-60 years old; and 13 who are older than 60. There have been 4,375 who have tested negative to date and three deaths from the virus. The new totals come a day after Gov. Kim Reynolds activated more than three dozen more Iowa Army National Guard members to help handle coronavirus response missions across the state.

HANLONTOWN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in north-central Iowa are searching for a man who reportedly fell out of a fishing boat on the Winnebago River near Hanlontown. The Globe Gazette reports that emergency responders were called around 1:20 p.m. Friday, saying a man had fallen into the water and not resurfaced. Worth County Sheriff Dan Fank says it appears the boat hit some cables, spinning the boat and knocking the man into the water. A second man in the boat was not injured. Fank says the stretch of river the men were fishing is a popular spot for recreational boating and kayaking.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — Police in central Iowa have identified a man killed and another wounded in a shooting in Marshalltown earlier this week. Police say 22-year-old Johnqwez Deanthony Lewis died at the scene of the Wednesday night shooting. Officers and medics sent to a residence around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday found Lewis and 27-year-old Devonte Allen Brooks suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say Brooks was taken to a hospital and has since been released. No arrests have been reported. Police are asking the public for any information on the shooting.

(Updated 4:08-p.m.) The National Weather Service says the Adams County Emergency Management Coordinator has reported damage from a tornadic storm that fired-up quickly and rapidly moved northeast, Saturday afternoon. The tornado damage occurred at around 2:10-p.m. about five-miles southeast of Bridgewater, near the Adams/Adair County line. Officials say two machine sheds were destroyed at a farmstead, but no one was injured.

Viewers report damage near the Buffalo Run Apartments complex on the northwest side of Oelwein sustained roof, siding and window damage. A carport was also completely destroyed. Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers sent out a notice at around 1:30-p.m. today (Saturday), with regard to a missing man. 28-year old Jordan Charles Quick is missing from a community residential care facility, in Clarinda. Quick, a dependent adult,  is 5’3″ tall, weighs 180 lbs, and has blue eyes.
