AHSTW can’t find the offense in substate final loss to Des Moines Christian

Sports

February 25th, 2023 by admin

The AHSTW Vikings had a tough time getting comfortable on the offensive end of the floor and couldn’t get the big shot to fall when they needed it on Saturday night. The Vikings suffered a 47-36 loss to Des Moines Christian in the 2A Substate 7 Final in Adel.

The game was a very low scoring affair, especially in the first half as Des Moines Christian led 18-13 at the break. The Lions used a 12-0 run to start the second quarter to grab the lead. They then went on an 8-0 run to start the second half to make it tough on the Vikings.

AHSTW would claw back within 5 toward the end of the game but could never get that next big shot to fall down. Des Moines Christian put the icing on the win when Carsen Thies threw up a hasty three in the corner that splashed in just before the shot clock expired to push the lead back to eight with just over a minute left.

Des Moines Christian was led by 18 points from Tate Platte and 14 from Thies. The Lions head back to the state tournament for the second time in three seasons.

AHSTW was led by 15 points from Senior Kyle Sternberg. The Vikings fall short of State by one game for the second straight season. They end a great season with a record of 21-3.
