The Glenwood Police Department reports 38-year old Scott Reed, of Glenwood, was arrested Sunday, for Domestic Abuse Assault. Reed’s cash only bond was set at $5,000.

Shelby County Fire Danger index “Moderate” through at least Thursday

Shelby County Emergency Management officials are asking fire stations and participating businesses in the County, to place their Local Fire Danger signs into the “Moderate” category. EMA Coordinator Bob Seivert says the forecast call for blue skies and a warming trend, which will increase the drying of vegetation and create a higher risk for controlled burns to become out of control.

Next update on the fire conditions will be Thursday March 15th.

Atlantic man arrested Friday for Criminal mischief

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports a Cass County man was arrested at around 6-p.m. Friday for 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief. 37-year old Michael Allen Gaver, of Atlantic, was arrested after Deputies responded to 10 W. Main Street in Treynor, where a door was damaged on a piece of heavy construction equipment. The damage was estimated at $1,700. Gaver was being held in the Pott. County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

And, a woman from Council Bluffs was arrested late Friday night, for Driving While Barred. 35-year old Janet Nicole Huisman was arrested after a Deputy on Patrol ran her license plate and learned her driving status was barred.

Adair County Supervisors will meet Tuesday

The Adair County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday, in Greenfield. During their session, which begins at 9-a.m., the Board will canvass the results of last Tuesday’s Special Election pertaining to a bond for the courthouse elevator project. Of the 277 votes cast, 63.2% voted in favor of the increase. The measure needed at least 60% support to be enacted. Afterward, they’ll conduct regular business, which includes: a Manure Management Plan update, discussion on Township Clerk wages, Adair County Landfill financial statements, a FY 2017 Southern Iowa Trolley audit, and Tyler Technologies amendment.

The County Engineer will have some documents for the Board to sign, with regard to bridge//road culvert replacement projects, and he’ll discuss with the Board equipment purchases for FY 2019. The Board will enter into a closed session to discuss/act on the purchase of two parcels of land, and return to discuss further, the Courthouse Elevator Project/Bid.

Teen injured in Sioux City fire flown to Nebraska hospital

(Updated) SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old boy injured in a Sioux City apartment fire has died at a Nebraska burn center. Sioux City police say in a news release that Misael Gonzales Velasquez died at Saint Elizabeth Regional Burn and Wound Center in Lincoln around 3 a.m. Monday. He was flown there Sunday after initial treatment at a Sioux City hospital.

Firetrucks were sent to the building around 3:40 a.m. Sunday, and firefighters say the flames filled an upstairs apartment where they found the boy. The fire cause is being investigated. Authorities say the blaze displaced 13 building occupants.

VACIHCS Partners with Des Moines Regional Office for a Special Vietnam Veteran Commemoration

VA Central Iowa Health Care System (VACIHCS) and the Des Moines Regional Office are hosting a special Commemoration Event for the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War to honor all Vietnam Era Veterans in Polk County and surrounding areas.

The ceremony will be conducted on Friday, March 30th, 2018. It will begin at 10 a.m. at the VACIHCS Main Campus, 3600 30th St., Des Moines, IA, 50310, Auditorium (Bldg 4/Floor 2). The event will feature Dan Gannon, Chair of the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs as the guest speaker and fellow Vietnam Veteran, an inspiring video, and the official presentation of the Vietnam Veteran commemorative lapel pin by local leadership. Following the official event, leadership will honor Vietnam Veteran patients who are unable to attend the event.

This commemoration event is open to all Vietnam Veterans in the area and their family members. We encourage members of the public, including Congressional stakeholders, Veterans Service Organizations, state and local governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other community partners to help us celebrate. Creston Police report 6 arrests

Officials with the Creston Police Department report six arrests from over the weekend. Four people were arrested Sunday. At around 12:45-a.m., 26-year old Kassaundra Grout, of Creston, was arrested on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was released from the Adams County Jail on a $1,000 bond. At that same location and nearly the same time, 41-year old Timothy Hansen,of Creston, was arrested for Possession with Intent to Sell or Manufacture Methamphetamine – Over 5g and Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd or Subsequent – Marijuana. He was released from the Union County Jail on a $30,000 bond. At around 12:35-p.m. Sunday, 38-year old William Hopper, of Thayer, was arrested for Driving While Revoked. His bond was set at $1,000. And, late Sunday night, 57-year old Adolfo Saturno, of Creston, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. His bond was also set at $1,000.

Saturday afternoon, 41-year old Shawn Parmenter, of Creston, was arrested on a Union County warrant for Assault Causing Bodily Injury or Mental Illness. He was released from the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.  Saturday night, 31-year old Christopher Stolk, of Creston, was arrested in Creston for Public Intoxication, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was being held in the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Clarinda woman arrested in Taylor County

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office report 31-year old Amber Sue Malcom, of Clarinda, was arrested Sunday following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Highway 2. She was charged with OWI- First Offense, Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia. Malcom was being held at the Taylor County Jail on $2000 cash only bond.

Woman, 2 children escape from sinking car in Cedar River

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a woman and two small children escaped from a car sinking into the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids. Firefighters and police were sent to the Mohawk boat ramp around 4:45 p.m. Sunday. They found the three had been helped from the sinking car into ski boats to return to the ramp.

It’s unclear how or why the car went into the river. The three were taken to a hospital. Their names haven’t been released.
