Iowa State offensive line coach Ryan Clanton says it has been a physical spring as the Cyclones make changes to the run game. Clanton joined the ISU staff after five seasons at UNI and hopes to boost a Cyclone offense that ranked last in the Big-12 last season. Clanton says a key is unlocking the potential of the offensive line.

Clanton says a key in teaching new schemes is to keep them simple.

Clanton says practices this spring have been competitive and physical.

Clanton says the offensive linemen also need to be versatile.

The offensive line has been considered a weak spot at ISU and senior tackle Jake Remsburg says Clanton is working to change that.

Remsburg says Clanton’s level of expertise is a plus.

A healthy Remsburg would be a plus for the offensive line. He has struggled with injuries during his career and missed the first four games last season after suffering an injury in fall camp. The Cyclones close out spring drills April 22nd.

Lewis Central was led by Ethan Eichhorn who won the 800M (2:02.61) and anchored their winning Distance Medley Team (3:41.66). Parker Matiyow won the Shot Put (51-00.50) and the Discus (156-05).

Harlan’s Wil Neuharth won the 100M (11.18) and anchored their winning 4x100M Relay Team (42.29) and 4x200M Relay Team (1:28.63). Jacob Birch, Aidan Hall, and Cade Sears were the other members of both relays.

Atlantic won the 4x800M Relay (Caden Andersen, Alex Sonntag, Jayden Proehl, Bennett Whetstone 8:38.60) and got 2nd in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Jackson McLaren, Colton Rasmussen, Easton O’Brien, Alex Keiser 1:04.29). Jayden Proehl was 2nd in the High Jump at 6-02.00 and Rasmussen went 6th at 05-08.00

Fremont-Mills won 8 events on their way to the team title. Teagan Ewalt helped out the effort with a win in the 400M and was part of the Knights’ winning Sprint Medley and 4x400M Relay teams.

Riverside got a win from Madison Kelley in the Discus with a best throw of 108-07.50. The Lady Dawgs also won the 4x800M Relay and Distance Medley.

Red Oak’s Jocelyn O’Neal won the Long Jump at 16-10.00.

Riverside won the Sprint Medley (AC Roller, Mason McCready, Grady Jeppesen, Ayden Salais 1:38.39)

CAM picked up three wins. Sam Foreman 110M Hurdles (15.10), Jack Follmann 400M Hurdles (56.15), and Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Jack Follmann, Cale Maas, Gavin Clayton, Sam Foreman 1:06.82). Follmann also went 2nd in the 110M Hurdles (15.20).

Exira-EHK got a 2nd Place finish from Jonas LaCanne in the 100M and Derek Kommes in the High Jump.

With Big 12 all-time sacks leader Will McDonald headed to the NFL Joey Peterson is ready to step up at defensive end at Iowa State. The former North Scott standout appeared in all 12 games last season and has also spent a lot of time on special teams. He says he learned a great deal from McDonald.

One way to have an impact is to get bigger, something Peterson focused on during the winter.

As he enters his junior season Peterson has become more of a student of the game and that has helped him become more of a leader.

The Cyclones close out spring drills on April 22nd.
